Must be new items added in the latest update. Not had a chance to get on and test but maybe you can combine them to make armour sets and weapons? What does it say when you mouse over the items or right click them?
i had a research kit and researched "weapon part 2" and "weapon part 4"... i have no idea

not alot just says part 1,2,3 or 4

Maybe they're like blueprints. Gather four parts and you can learn to build a new weapon?
I've seen them as well.. Are there currently four parts?
They're for the old system.
