I found first C4 within 12 hours of playing, playing in current state where C4 is so common is kinda pointless, and crafting cost isnt high either.
People can just basically raid every single structure they come upon unless you have group of 5-10 fully armed people defending it 24/h.

For example some low-moderate chance to find it off air drop (like 1-2 pieces max), but make it nearly impossible to find out of zeds / rad zones because anyone with a bow can farm them endlessly.
Then people wouldn't actually waste it to take down every single 1x1 house or shelter, people wouldn't be losing their bases every 24 hours and you could expect some epic shoot outs over air drops.
Ofcourse you still would be able to raid and take down bases, it just would be much harder to gather C4 which is good i think?
I dont really see any CONS of it and it's surely better solution than the actual one.
I've actually made my server this way. Not a lot of players, but the loot table modifications have made a huge impact on the way they act.
then doors and walls shouldnt be craftable too!

Well yeah and that's another good thing, devs wouldn't have to really work that much on it.
It's just matter of changing a loot tables, removing C4 recipe and make it impossible to learn the recipe.
It could be done anytime.

I think crafting C4, should probably be at least triple of what it is now. Making the crafting of C4 take an insanely long time to create as well.
Yes, I understand that it is necessary to raid a base. However. When it comes to raiding bases there needs to be a strategy involved instead of slapping some C4 on the nearest wall and going in. If you have limited C4 and you're trying to get into a base.
You need to know the weak points of the base you're trying to get into.
Scouting it out and what not.
Which is in turn, why I turned off crafting C4 until the values of what it takes to craft these items are tweakable.
Another one of these? You are mad just because you have been raided, would be a lot different if it was you sitting with all the C4. Just play the game and stop complaining about it.
I find tons of C4 when I get on late nights (after work) American servers and do some fuel tank runs, and loop up to the hangar. Pop-Pop with my found C4 into someone who thinks a 4 metal door system will stop me from just 1 shot c4ing their back wall storage room, or 1 foundation, one ramp, one c4ing their second floor storage room, and looting their 3 large wood crates, and taking 'their c4'. Mini-stash it with found wood into a temporary 'shack' storage, and continue the raid to other houses.
C4 is easy to get/find! To make it? I've got the ingredients to make a handful, but the time and effort to make/cook it... meh, let it be craft-able, it's difficult enough.
Sidenote: I agree with modified anti-c4 loot tables on PvE servers only. Gotta be able to raid on PvP servers though! If I can't get into your base on a PvP server, a talent-less clan could make a big base and be safe forever, that would be lame, they need to be raided and killed and looted!
On our server, you can only obtain C4 and grenade via airdrops or zombies. You can't craft C4 and grenade. This is having a huge impact on the gameplay, come try it! :) 192.99.13.106:28075
A lot of players are more for rare military loot. Un-researchable c4 , m4 and that you can only find them in air drops or extremely rare. The makes end game more meaningful in my opinion and that is why our server uses this system. To find an M4 is a big deal. Kevlar should be made the same way.
Ideal server for longevity of population would limit the research and spawn of the end game items, making them special. Anyone who disagrees has a right to but is asking for a BF game or CoD.
Some of us enjoy the idea of fearing something to lose, having something special that other players do not have. With the modified military loot the weapon combinations have been interesting as well. Without full groups of kevlar / m4 / c4 groups running around the fights get interesting.
C4 is way to easy to get. I am not saying this because I get raided it's for the very fact that I raid so many people with c4...

Currently C4 is only lootable from zombies, silver crates, and air drops!
Also we have Oxide with door sharing, etc.
I certainly hope the devs come up with a better solution for defending homes/easiness of acquiring C4 on vanilla servers, and Deadagain's info was enlightening; thank you for that info :).
I think C4 is a great aspect and gives the game some spice, especially if its a noted "PVP" server, its a part of what makes this game so fun, ive lost my base countless times and I have raided countless people, I haven't had so much fun on a game in a while. I love defending and I love raiding, I think C4 is just where it needs to be if you wana whine about it being to cheap or to easy to obtain I think you need to go play another game because you don't have what it takes to be hardcore.
You must have lost all your stuff etc etc. Your butthurt about now, and lol you just wana make the game a farm up game and never lose your base. That just takes alot of the fun out of the game, I don't care how long I worked for the stuff I have saved up if it gets raided oh well I will just start over and get it all right back, doesn't take long.
There are servers which have C4 as only lootable from airdrops.

Nobody wants to remove C4 from the game.
I 100% agree that C4 is way too easy to get.....but to suggest it not be a craftable item, and instead is something that is only found in air drops? So basically you are saying its a weapon that only the hackers should get, because we all know air drops are just a magnet for everyone and the hackers will go there and wipe everyone out, take the crate items and anything that someone was foolish enough to bring with them.
Increase ingredient costs, increase craft times, increase durability to doors.....all are fine suggestions. But limiting it to JUST airdrops seems foolish to me.
im pretty sure the last 5 times i left a server for good was because i got c4ed with in the first 2 hour of playing.
I dont get what is so fun about causing people to empty a server , because like it or not that is what making raiding so damn easy does ... empty servers.
you take all my stuff , then i have nothing tying me to the server , and the research system is far to shallow to be a valid reason for staying.
I personally do not thinkg that C4 is too easy to obtain. for someone like myself who only plays 2-3 hours a day at best it will take me days to gather enough to make one charge.
Now there are plenty of custom or modded servers out there that the admins spawn all that they could ever need for them and their buddies, tilting the scales in their favor. The server I play on we do not do that so players have a chance to get setup.

This is why when I raid a person's house I only take items I may need, and not take everything. I also leave the sleeping bag there as well. Most of the time when I raid a place I will take out a wall instead of the door so that way they can still get in and out. I also replace the wall section to leave it so others won't go in and rob them blind. Well unless someone else blows the door off as well.
I agree about C4 needing to be less common. It is quite frustrating for a solo playing individual like me to come back every day to my home having had the doors blown off (all 4 of them) and what little ammo and metal I gathered during the day stolen. It's bad enough to where I have taken to sticking stashes at various key points around the base just to save my -resources-. If guns stacked I would stick them in those too!

You do realize that C4 will become the currency ingame do you? in later stages of the game this could just destroy the game. It will become just as weird as Rune trading in Diablo 2, you dont have a rune to get another rune? Forget it...
One of the reasons C4 is easy to obtain is because raiders are able to restock from what they raid. Therefore if non-raiders were more diligent in converting sulfur to ammo and avoided crafting explosives, there would be less C4.
I wouldn't say it's too common but basically once enough people know how to craft them it can become almost an end game since they can just raid everyone at any time even if they have a really fortified base. The annoying part is if a group that owns a huge base is sleeping, it is completely vulnerable since it has no defense. That's why to counter this we should be able to place down traps. If traps are added to the game I think c4 won't be the biggest thing to worry about.
if anything their needs to be more C4, im guessing you're kind of new to Rust. once you learn how to C4 proof your house you wont be saying that.
it will take someone at least 34 C4 too get to my vault that's if they hit every wall 100% correctly. keep in mind i have tons of dead ends, traps and fake loot chest rooms.
last night we did a raid and we just made it too the vault we used 22 C4. i think c4 is at a good spot in the game ATM,it just really sucks if you're 1st starting out or you don't have friends to build with

You really can't raid someone's 10 story castle with 3 C4
I was just about to post the opposite. It's way too hard to find C4. On most servers these days, air drops are disabled which means you can't find explosives to research thus one must relay on looting C4. Being to at C4 is entirely too rare, it's a time consuming process.
if people can craft c4, you can build hundreds of fake house and fake crates and glitch the zombies inside. ultimate anti-climatic solution for those raiders :v:

Make crafting of C4 expensive and time consuming, but also make it DANGEROUS. Real C4 is incredibly stable and safe to handle, but this is a game. Maybe change to name to Nitroglycerin if it makes you feel better, but regardless, make it unstable during crafting and to carry.
Give it a 40-70 % chance of causing a huge explosion while crafting. Maybe you can find ways to reduce this risk as well. Also make it dangerous to carry, exploding unexpectedly if you jump or run or get hit. The more you carry, the higher the risk of blowing yourself to kingdom come while packing the stuff.
It would add an element of risk to using it.

that's not the issue tho why make it a risk when you need to take the time to make 30C4 to get into a house, your idea would make raiding pointless no one would want to waste even more time making C4 if there's a chance for it too fail. go take the time to make 30C4 tell me how long it takes you do you really want a risk of failure?
