Here just some randomness that i thought would be pretty cool to add.
For Vehicles:
- Tracks, both tank style and 4WD style, better movement on steep surfaces and snow, but slower than normal wheels. Also a bit tougher to bullets but less so to explosions.
- Armour, self explanatory and probably already gonna happen anyway.
- Rear mounted turret, operated by another player, probably also getting added anyway.
Weaponry:
- Some kind of tinkering table, allows for more precise weapon edits, kind of like a research table, you put the weapon in and and some materials, and maybe bp frags to increase chance, then you can make the current scrappy weapons into something closer to a "retail quality" gun would be which makes it more reliable and deal slightly more damage. You would also need the knowledge to perform the upgrade kind of like a BP but not a crafting one.
- Before weapons are upgraded in the tinkering table, they can misfire, which is when a bullet isn't fired and it deals the equivalent of 5 - 10 shots of damage to the gun.
Other:
- Basically the ability to eventually get to the point where your on your way to gaining the tech of before the apocalypse (not being limited to scrappy shit anymore), so that your surviving at first but your goal isn't just to survive but also thrive and rebuild society. This would be awesome as you could go from a naked on the beach to a civilised person, or as civilised as a person in Rust could possibly be.
- Spread advanced resources more like when HQM and Oil were moved, this encourages trade and allows a somewhat quiet area for new people to advance.
I have some other ideas too but as I don't want to get in trouble for pointless bumps so here they are:

The civilization progression path doesn't seem too viable. We all know how it will end up, clans will be geared out with futuristic laser rifles while everyone else will be a caveman running around with a rock getting murdered.
As for upgrading guns to factory grade, it also doesn't seem to make much sense. To upgrade a gun to modern factory grade, you need a lot of technology which seems unattainable for survivors of rust. And even then, direct upgrades are boring. They phase out the fun of variety. What instead we should have are guns made of parts, crafted parts can have different pluses and minuses, while you could also have a chance to find factory grade parts in boxes/airdrops that cannot be researched or crafted.
With the introduction of "dungeons" I feel that the highest tier items should not be craftable and instead only be found through exploration.
I don't mean to the point of laser rifles but to tinker with say an AK and be able to make it a lot more reliable, like say you put a AK, a bit of high quality metal and wood into a research table like object, maybe with some BP frags for added luck and you then wait maybe 30 sec to a min in which the gun will be made to a fairly higher quality, so it would still be a bit beated up and patched up but with like 5% less recoil, 5 - 10% more damage, and considerably less misfires and possibly more durability, but you have to have the knowledge to do so (like a BP) and it only has a chance to succeed, failing to upgrade it will break it (needs to be repaired) and you lose some of the matierials used. Like researching, a very used gun is less likely to be a successful upgrade.
What's the point? Why even have that? I don't feel that it adds anything to the game. Linear upgrades are so boring. All they do is give more and more advantages to clans that can boost through the linear tree much faster. Rust needs more depth and variety, not AK and then AK +1.

So my goal in Rust would be to turn Harry Newman into a character from The Sims?

It not just the AK it's almost anything the devs want, it could even work as icepick -> pickaxe. It isn't really linear progression it's more just adding more to the process of making guns, but you can use the gun half way through kind of thing.

Do you run around with AKs in the sims? I mean to recover from the apocalypse...

Beats me. Never played it. You're the one who said that they would turn into civilized people in a rebuilt society.

How civilised could you actually be in Rust lol, I meant that you have item equivalent to something less scrapped together and also so that there are more communities, like say things that create crazy amounts of production but also requires a lot of stuff, so if everyone contributes then everyone gets something.
Like say a massive quarry that produces lots of resources, but you need a lot to protect it and you requires loads of fuel so everybody would have to chip in, but the resources it gathers would be enough to share with all the people that help with it.
