My five friends and I recently started playing on a rust server, but one of them has been having problems on every server. He's unable to open his chat, he can't shoot guns, he can't place items down such as sleeping bags, or anything! Does anyone know how to fix this? It would help alot, thanks.
We also told him to check his keybinds, and he says they are fine.
I know that if you use steam in-home streaming you can use only mouse. Maybe ur friend have broken Windows system? I really advise install Linux.

why do all your posts boil down to "install linux". Linux is not an operating system for everyone, and maintaining a linux install is significantly more difficult than windows. fuck something up in your install? might as well reinstall linux! no thanks.
I literally have the same issue. I made a dedicated server which works just fine, except for one friend of mine. He's unable to do anything. All he can do is move around the map.
We are only 5 players. He only has this issue in my server.

Both you and the OP should have the person having this problem reset their keybinds to defaults.
I should have explained my friend's issue.
It is not keybinds. My friend can play any server just fine. What happens is that he is able to play (like in any other server out there) in my server for 3-15 minutes. After 3-15 minutes spent on my server, he "kind of" desyncs, and as a result, this happens:
He's unable to open his chat, he can't shoot guns, he can't place items down such as sleeping bags, or anything!

All he can do is move around the map.
Also, he is unable to gather resouces and unable to throw weapons.
There is one little difference with OP's friend issue. My friend can write in chat. We can see his messages instantly, but he can't see his own messages.
About connectivity. When this happens, there is no console error and he has 0% packet loss (with 30 ms).
About my server, I'm using Oxide 2 and a bunch of plugins.
We tried searching for a fix. We couldn't find anything.
I think this is the OP's friend issue and my friend's issue.
Any ideas?
Back up your server and wipe it for a vanilla server, see if the problem goes away. If it does, something about your plugins is screwing with him for some reason. If that fixes it, reinstall Oxide and add the plugins one at a time until his character breaks/desyncs again.
If it goes away after a full wipe and reinstall, then it was some weirdness with that particular map, which would be strange but not unexpected in an alpha.
Nope. It didn't work. Wiped my server back to vanilla, and he keeps desyncing for some reason. (I even changed the map, and, still, he keeps desyncing). It didn't change anything.
I don't get it, why is this only happening to him?
I would have the guy:
- make sure his ethernet drivers are up to date
- restart his router
- temporarily turn off his firewall and try Rust with it down
It also might be good for him to run a speed test as close to the location of the server as possible. Don't post it here, but if his ping/etc. is bad, he'll have problems.
It could very well be a bug that only affects a random slice of the population, but we can at least try to eliminate other causes.

I had such a problem with chat. I was able to open chat and focus on it, but when I press enter to send message it was not sent. Chat just unfocused. I tried everything including a support, but it didn't help. Only one working solution for me was re-installing a windows. Chat started working again.
Good news:
After he updated his Ethernet driver, he no longer desyncs from the server (for now. We tested this for 25 minutes, when he usually desyncs after 3-15 minutes. He never desynced after 15 minutes). I'll keep you updated if something goes wrong again. (If nothing goes wrong after 2 days, I'll post here that it is fixed for my friend).
Thank you so much elixwhitetail for helping us! Now, I don't know if this solved anything for OP's friend.

While I agree that it's not for everyone I strongly disagree that it's harder to maintain.
I find it a lot easier to install and maintain, I never have to do anything twice.
That said, I'm used to Linux and that's what makes it easier, hence Linux is not for everyone.
Just had to clarify that, It's really unfair to make claims like that about an operating system you don't use.
Anger2 is a perfect example of the biggest problem Linux has aside from fucking adobe.
On Topic:
I hope Mass_'s success proliferates to those with the same issue. I suspect it's not the last we've seen of this problem since Ethernet drivers don't update automatically... on windows.
Sorry, had to. Inability to take anything seriously for too long.
Bad news:
It's happening again. (We only tried after updating his Ethernet Drivers. Today, we wanted to test it again, resulting on the same problem (vanilla server)).
Never sing victory ahead of time, I guess. :/
Did you do the rest of the steps? Router reboot is an important step.
I'd also like the guy to take special steps when launching Rust, for testing purposes. I want him to open Rust and open the server list... and then just leave it there for 10 to 15 minutes before trying to connect. He can go make a sandwich or something. The reason is that we want to make sure that he's not getting his network connection flooded by the server list info while he's trying to play and getting self-spammed into desynching from the server. By waiting the 15 minutes, we let the server list (hopefully) get all the info it needs so his network connection isn't nearing saturation with server updates.
Hopefully, this will be the true fix.
He waited for 15 minutes (or more), as you said, and then joined. Still desynced.
We decided to try something new (and maybe obvious). He tried joining my server through Server List>Friends, not through Rust Console and Log Me In Hamachi.
After one full hour of shenanigans and random stuff, he never desynced. To verify it wasn't just pure luck, we spent another 30 minutes (after restarting Rust) and he was able to play without desyncing. My friend's issue only happens when he joins my server through Console and Hamachi.
TL:DR -> We "may have" found the fix, my friend only needed to connect through the server list and not through Console and Hamachi.
As i said before:

Again, thank you elixwhitetail for your support! I hope this is the ultimate fix.
If you're using Hamachi you're introducing a whole mess of complications, but I'm glad it seems to be working.
bit late, but why were/are you using himachi? for chat function?
We were using Hamachi as one way to join my server (because we thought joining a Rust server would be the same as joining a Gmod listen server). Some of my friends joined me through the server list (without telling me).
I alredy had everything portforwarded (Steam ports, games ports...), and I had set up other dedicated servers before without a problem. I believed it was something related to his game (Rust, obviously) because desyncing from my server with 0 % packet loss and with no console errors was too weird.
Now, we need to try with a modded Rust server (with Oxide 2 and plugins). Knowing now that Hamachi was "probably" the problem, it should be fine now.
Okay, Hamachi was the problem. We can finally play together.
Still, OP hasn't said anything yet.
I can't leave this thread without repeating this:
