• Game Getting TOO Hardcore?

Now I know this is gonna make some people go on about how the more realistic the game is the better but think about it. I've been playing DayZ for 1yr and a half now and every update it gets harder and harder to do things that were simple in previous patches. I feel the same way about Rust. Not that the more realistic/hardcore the game gets, the worse, but it does frustrate me and I'm sure others, that one when they take away the ability to do something it hurts the players experience. Now I don't want to start a horde of angry comments but I do want to know what people think about the game and if it gets to "hard". I just don't want Garry and his team to take away the fact that this is a game, and it doesn't have to be a real-life simulator. Not to say it will. Things like fall damage were inevitable. I guess what I'm trying to say is not to make this a game that is so hard it takes the fun out of it. I want to know what people think. No hate Garry <3 Thanks
The games is meant to be hard. Besides, remove all other people playing the game, and it's the easiest you'll ever come across. The most dangerous aspect as of now in rust, is in fact its players.
Me personally, I think the game is way too easy at the current moment. When server wipes happen you cant even make it 24 hour before you see coordinated groups with large structures, full kevlar, and m4 roaming around with c4 charges. So I really hope they make it more difficult to get the "late game" items in the near future. I would really enjoy having more bow and arrow fights for resource gathering nodes in the first few days and the occasional mp5. That's just me.
Thanks for the replies! Like I said I don't want to fight. This is my personal opinion and I do agree with loadchaos in terms of late game gear. Again thanks.
lordchaos I totally agree with you. I don't remember how its called but there is that thing in gaming where some item is less used or not at all just because there are better items to use instead. Basically there are no "rare" type of items. At the beginning I thought that metal building materials were "rare" but now I see it's not. I can get almost every single item blueprint or learn it with research kit withing few hours. I would really appreciate if the game would have really, really rare items with like drop rate of 0,005% being the most difficult to find. So that the leather, cloth have some purpose after 30min of playing and having a full cevlar. Also the resource gathering, I would like if the wooden piles woul give like 2 wood instead of 10 for a hit. Like tree gives 1 wood but you can find bunch of trees, while less common wood piles gives 2-3wood per hit. In that case a house would be luxury. And things like C4 and Explosives should be at the top of the rare list.
@ ayckars whoa whoa.. the harvesting nodes give enough haha. lets not go too far. But i see your point. I've said to buddies of mine that play that they should scatter the nodes more imo. Ore should be all over mountain/hill areas and trees be in the forests. I also believe that they should be able to spawn anywhere in those areas not limited to "mining" fields. This allows more solo play for people that may not have their friends on at that moment to be able to farm in piece instead of be hunted down by gangs of 3-4 people that "farm" by killing the solo gatherers haha.
Yeah, I agree about the mining fields thing. And what I was trying to tell is that I want to enjoy the game more than for 2-3hrs and then get bored as I have everything I need and I have no more purpose of what to do. And I want to have an experience of "Whoooau" when I find a cevlar armor blueprint when its one of the rarest things on the server. I want that every item in the game has its value because at the moment some items has no value at all or they lose their value very fast...
I think the majority of what makes the game hard is exactly what makes it easy. It's so easy to get a huge base setup and stock up on kevlar, m4s, ammo, and grenades when you're in a group that anyone trying to get started on their own struggles to get past the starving phase. Though, I don't know what could be done about that; just an observation I've made.
Maybe there should be more dangerous, yet rewarding, areas of the map - harder enemies or more radiation zones/"bad things" but rarer and more useful items. It doesn't really solve the core problem here, however, but it could help separate people with bows from people fully kitted with armour, guns, and mansions by providing them with a goal further down the road to go to those advanced zones. However the problem here is if there is better loot than those people may just become more powerful and cause a larger divide. I do think it is strangely easy to get pistols over bows, though.
Well FP will have to make a decision between those possibilities : - make it hardcore (smaller audience but unique game) - provide several difficulty options for private server. - make it softcore like other games of the same category. I personally would prefer the first one but the second possibility is ok.

Custom server rules is the second option i put. I'm ok with that. As an example, to craft a gun : Softcore mode : craft 4 gun parts and assemble. Hardcore mode : craft 10 parts and assemble to get a gun which quality depends on parts quality.

Am i missing the point here?
Getting hardcore? Isnt that a good thing?

I do not agree with what you are pointing because you are stating that humans are the biggest threat. At the current state, yes you are right but if FP want do to an unique game, it does need to make something very different from DayZ.

Disagree - because i much prefer knowing my enemy is human and unpredictable it adds alot of emergent gameplay as you have to think fast in the moment. Where as a dull Zed runs at you hits.. and repeats. Agree - I only agree with it slightly. Reason being players KOS because a players rival is a player and killing zeds is to easy for them. They're not getting the game play they desire so they kill individuals. I think we should move away from Jamming/broken because it would be relatively hard to balance and for the best part of the game wouldn't make sense unless you're using a gun for a long period of time. Maybe misfire and inaccuracy is a better route as we are moving towards these makeshift weapons and you wouldn't expect a straight shooting gun. Going back to the OP, At this time the game is too hardcore for some because features like sleepers hasn't been given an opposite update yet (like base defences) So the game is more balanced towards 'Hardcore' it will change i reckon. I don't think they game will be become less forgiving however, it will give you the tools to counter the 'hardcore' aspects of the game, toning them down a little bit. It's a survival game not a pussy simulator
It's a survival game not a pussy simulator
Hahahaha. I like the fact that it's getting harder. Most games these days take hours to master. I remember when UT and Quake could take months just to get used to twitch headshots with the shock rifle. I'd rather have harder games because most of the ones these days are TOO easy.
