Well this sounds like facepunch are getting mead evil on their asses but i don’t how will it work exactly but it sounds like a step in the right direction
"Anticheat Garry Newman It’s obvious that our previous anticheat strategies aren’t working. Cheaters and Cheat makers have become accustomed to the routine and have learned how to coexist with it. We need to switch it up. A good number of persistent cheaters have a main account alongside a string of accounts on which they cheat and expect to be banned. We can see these accounts, we can see how they’re used, how they benefit from the actions of your cheater accounts. Previously we’ve only banned accounts that were used for cheating; from now on if you’re caught we’ll ban all of your accounts."
Interested on how they know with certainty. Are they logging IPs? Is there something in Steam they are using to tie the accounts together? Could just be a tactic to scare cheaters but either way, I like it.
Probably a combination of IP, machine IDs, and a few other things.
Can't wait for the deluge of sob stories of "those weren't a series of back up cheat accounts, I bought Rust for an orphanage/mental institution/family in an impoverished nation/etc", how am I responsible for their cheating?
Can't wait for this!
Brilliant News ! [editline]18th June 2016[/editline] I'd go one step further and blanket ban the use of all of their Steam games for a period of time. WE DONT LIKE PLAYERS THAT F****** CHEAT
How exactly would you expect Garry to go about accomplishing that?
He doesn't, Kian went a bit crazy is all.
Are the bans HWID bans ? If its possible to ban all accounts from a cheater this would be a step in the right direction.
Yeah, I've seen several cheaters who tried to appeal their bans with their alts on their friend's list. It's extremely obvious once you looked into them because they either have CS:GO with overwatch bans or a Rust account with a ban from 300-700 days ago. good on garry for this.
Now if there was only some way to detect those damn ESP hacks. As a heavy stash user that's been the one that bugs me the most. This is great news though. I'm stoked.

The client does not need to know the stashes position really the servers can detect when a player is staring at the ground for 2-3 seconds. This game is so client sided it's OBVIOUS that the hacks are going to be super powerful...
Next step we docs them and then we jail them for cheating.

It'd be a lot of work for the server to always keep track of where 150+ people are looking at all times. I suspect it's actually a very tricky problem which is why I keep bitching about it to a minimum. Luckily I play on community servers and most cheaters don't just stop at ESP.
Previously we’ve only banned accounts that were used for cheating; from now on if you’re caught we’ll ban all of your accounts.
I think they will now ban based on HWID, with 99 % safety. But that wont help, that can be bypassed anyway, Hardware Spoofing etc. ...
Now that I think about it, this is most likely why there have been a few "my friend got banned but can't do their own appeal" threads over the last week or so. If it is, it seems to be working already.

So... take the next step. Make a simple scrounging animation and introduce a new input key for searching the ground. The server keeps the stash info hidden until a search hits the right coordinates, and checks against reasonable expectations (timing, physics etc.) to make sure the search requests coming from the client are legitimate. That's a big chunk of ESP value right out the window. The search key could then be re-used for additional content if/when traps and security systems ever develop any depth.

That's not the recent change. Now FP is banning all accounts from the cheater, even if they are completely unique.

Even more so when trying to figure out if the box is in the players FOV. So please, please don't say facetious shit like "totally blame the devs".

That sounds totally reasonable and not so resource hungry. BTW I would do away with the stash altogether : You don't need one to bury a key in the sand. Plus we could introduce foraging for seeds, roots and other stuff. Maybe make the stash a wearable that increases inventory size slightly and allows to hide it in the dirt. It could also be used by teams as kits for either ammo, meds or any items that go well together as a kit.
The main issue here is the way they obtain the cheaters info for other accounts - If they are doing it using computer markers then yes nice but then you also have the issue of a shared computer meaning you would be banning a non cheating member of said family There wont ever be a good or up to date anti hack anyway so pretty soon more servers will go into whitelist mode and all the hacks can just go play on the official servers My first game came with Punkbusters (PB) support for anti cheat and they did an amazing job, this effected my game choices as I knew if they were supporting it, there would be less hacks ruining my gaming fun. They still support many gams mostly EA or Ubisoft ones but PB can only be integrated into certain builds and since this is unity based I guess we are stuck with the hand made anti cheat. I have been thinking though it must be possible for them to add some of the PB features to their own one - Like --- Background updating while you play, meaning the latest detections are loading while you play meaning someone going to get caught. Admins can request actual screenshot samples from specific players and/or can configure the PB Server to randomly grab screenshot samples from players during gameplay, this can be blocked by some hacks or produce a cropped version but then that only means you have something to hide Hardware bans also If this could be added rust would definitely have less cheats but then im not seeing as many as I did recently so something's being done correctly
Probably a combination of IP, machine IDs, and a few other things.
Yeah, they could have a list of like 5 things. If your situation matches 4/5 of them or something, you get banned or flagged. It's always tricky being 100% sure that a person is collaborating with cheating. At least with EAC you have a detection engine. How do you detect someone is a collaborator?
