• You people need to realize this is a CLOSED ALPHA

I'm getting sick of this shit. In-game and forums. You people fail to realize Rust was made for a small community of experienced, friendly and co-operative people to test. Earlier, barely anyone got access to it so they could playtest it and think about new features, give feedback. An early, closed alpha TEST. Then suddenly it got publicity and all of you think it's a game you can play for fun. You are here to test it. All of you are here to test it, not to play it for other reasons. It was a mistake to make for the devs to make it publicly open for registration. All of you people complaining about hackers, KoSers and etc will make the developers go insane. The BIGGEST, FATTEST THANKS is for the hackers. You people are forcing the map wipes. Testing cannot occur when 120 people on a server play a game, shoot each other aimlessly and play it as a game for fun and entertainment. While the manpower is great, great manpower also creates chaos and unpredictability. Some of you guys are recommending this game to other people and are trying to give it more popularity, the popularity being FIFTY times larger than it should be as it is for what was supposed to be a SMALL CLOSED ALPHA TEST. Please, stop, and think. I actually expected a test whereas the only thing I can see in the game right now is chaos and disorder. The game, the forums - everything. You people are asking the developers to fix COMMUNITY problems - the CHATTING, the KoSing, the HACKING. If I'm too dramatic - so be it. These are my thoughts and I can't leave them lying around. I had to spill out and say something I've wanted to say for a long time.
The hackers and Trolls were banned on other games so they found rift. That's my opinion , now normal players heard about rift and can't get a key!!! Thanks Hackers ! sorry for p00r english :)
I'll play the game for whatever reason I want, and guess what moron, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. (User was banned for this post ("dumb/flaming" - postal))
Keep all these plebs out
there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
he can't but other sensible people will
I'll play the game for whatever reason I want, and guess what moron, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
Oh but I can! I can report you for flaming which may get you banned, resulting in no communication with Facepunch, perhaps making you interest in the game much, much smaller. If not, I could always just kill you on sight in the game for being a nuisance.
Yeah, maybe opening the game for public registration was a bad move but I guess they wanted more people playing? I agree, it's kinda hard to "test" the game at the moment because you can't get access to any features such as crafting without having some idiot wielding Cheat Engine and a hatchet coming at you.
I would suggest they wipe the player database and begin taking in applications for Alpha testing.

Now I don't have a key, but that's alright. I agree with this champ here. My excitement for the game and my lust to play is being saturated by the videos I find on YouTube... At least for now. If it was up to me, the devs would stop handing out more keys, relay on a few 100 players and focus on the game. (And yes, that means gold member keys too).
Does anybody remeber those days when alpha stage was soley part of a development stage and when companies actaully paid Beta-Testers for testing the game by giving them constructive and accurate feedback. Then years later beta-testers only got discounts on game they test all the way to today to Betas being open to the public. Hell now companies are profiting off alphas by selling them for triple the retail price or even selling unfinished games in an alpha state. I just hope some random kid didn't come into this game with all his buddies. In order to make games successful you need to monitor and reword the people who give accurate and constructive feedback. not the people who complain that the servers are down and they can't play :(

I do remember those days. And it was absolutely FORBIDDEN to talk about the game content or reveal ANYTHING :D
We're going to deal with the hacking pretty soon but the OP is right in some ways, this is an alpha test. And while it's really positive to see how many endless hours some people are spending building things up, wiping players and the map is part of it being in alpha. There are issues with abundance of resources and some duping that don't help matters. but these are issues that we we need to, and will fix soon. Regarding the random kill on sight stuff, that will never change in a game like this. However as developers we have the ability to slightly mitigate it. Less congestion in the spawn areas for example would assist with this without nerfing parts of the game that shouldn't be nerfed. Thanks for playing

Then we got something for the non-alphaplayers and still wanna enjoy the progress of you guys.

We need to separate the 'PsiSyndicate and SeaNanners OMG LET'S HAVE FUN' group from the actual community who is here to test the game. Any chances of a secondary, proper server?
I'd just like to say, you are one of the few people I've seen so far that makes any sense of this test. I've seen some threads made solely for the purpose of begging for keys (oh btw I accidentally hit disagree in an attempt to hit agree sorry about that xD)
Totally agree with OP. However, I don't mind the hackers, glitchers, and laggers. All of these people who make this game shit, will actually make it better in the long run by showing us what issues exist due to exploits. I don't mind glitches and shit happening, as long as they are reported. When people selfishly exploit glitches in a game like this it just ruins everything. It serves no purpose to do it and you just have people hate you. KOS'ing, can be a bit annoying but it's all a part of the game. I played with 48 or so people yesterday. It was fucking fantastic. There was maybe, 2 or 3 KOSers, no hackers, everyone was being friendly, and lots got done. Glitches were found, and potential ideas were formed. Yesterday, was how a true alpha test should have gone. Playing the game as is, and reporting any issues that come along and not bitching about things that aren't productive to improving this game. When the hackers are removed from the game, the game will truly start becoming more of an alpha test. I actually had fun in the game yesterday, which is rare. I had help from random strangers, and I helped random strangers while killing bandits if they were lurking around the area. TL;DR: The game could use more bug fixes, but the people who ruin it by glitching and hacking will only show us exploits and holes that can be fixed.
Permaban the guys who joined begging for keys keep our forum clean of the scurge
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with this post in some ways. Yes, there are people ruining the game and yes, it wasn't meant for this kind of community, but this is probably the best thing that could have happened for beta testing. All the hackers and dicks are revealing exploits and bugs that the community of fair players ETC. was never even considering looking at. We've been able to look at PvP and develop base technologies that can stand up to hordes of speedhackers and general dickbags. We've seen new hacks and exploits that can be patched. What is happening right now is a perfect Alpha test. We are seeing the game break and learning how we as players, and the devs as devs, can fix these issues. We've seen what a full community could've done at a late stage in development and how much chaos it would cause. But we now know how to deal with this when the community starts it's regrowth as the game nears completion. When the time comes that the game is at a secure state, we may be able to have a great community and playerbase. But right now the game needs to be broken, so it can be rebuilt stronger.
I came across Rust by watching one of my favorite youtubers (ForceLOL) doing a "Checkout" video of it. I admit, I came here to learn more about the game and hopefully there was some way I can register or sign up for a chance to contribute my feedback to the game. It's a shame that people are begging for keys and ruining maps for everyone. Good, honest, potential alpha/beta testers get the burnt of it and may not be able to get a chance to test at all. Such a bummer.
Garry probably wouldn't have needed to stop the registration if there wasn't so much hype for this game. This is typical though so I don't see why anyone is surprised. There's freeloaders all over the internet and complaining about them isn't going to stop it. I missed the registration period by a day so many people should consider themselves lucky that they were able to register.
still getting hilarious 1fps lag
I like your thinking Gvazdas.
Normally I don't like when people act like OP but the game unplayable for me I can't even harvest anything without getting blown to shit. Especially for your first post on a forum ^.^ And as for productive posting, heres my view. Alpha testing should be an exclusive phase meant solely for developers and press to work on and give first looks on a game. Rust screwed that up. For example, there is a wonderful MMO named HeroSmash created by Artix Entertaiment, creators of Adventure Quest. They used the alpha and beta in that game as a phase solely for testing, and only let subscribers of other games play, limiting the testin playerbase drastically. This is healthy practice for testing, as testers have already payed to play one game. Minecraft also held a fairly solid example. On the other hand, Developers should use the feedback they get on hacking to start countering those programs and hacks, as well as taking productive feedback. Players who play for fun will play eventually, what you seem to forget is that alpha an beta phases are temporary, meaning that this would be inevitable. So the developer should be using this to his advantage, and make multiple servers for casual playing and a payed premium one for those who actually test. Premium server would be more updated than the free ones as the premium would get new content to test for release to the public one, think of it as a testing phase, then a phase to test public opinion on the content coming out. So a smart developing team would do one of two things. Either close the beta to current Garrys Mod players ONLY, or create a premium server where actual testing happens and leave a public server to test public response to fairly outdated content.
i like pie (hopefully i wont get ban for spam) :) (User was banned for this post ("dumb reply" - postal))
Wouldn't the hacking be more beneficial for development? I mean probably not in this stage where they're still testing game play mechanics, but I guess it's better security further down the line.
i like pie (hopefully i wont get ban for spam) :)
Hopefully you will.

As an art student and aspiring game developer, I wish I had been able to be more in the loop with this, it looks like a great game and I would've loved to help out testing it.
Ok, I admit I was turned to this game by PsiSyndicate. At first I thought, wow, what a great game. I want to grab hold of a key. Then I became in-depth, noticed the grief the experienced members where experiencing and generally felt sorry for them. More and more people joined hence more and more useless threads. What was probably a nice little community seems to be overrun and now a breeding place for beta key devouring kids. To be honest now I've seen all of this, now all I want to do is actually help identify bugs and then report them, but it seems 75% of the new members don't understand...
