Wouldnt it be cool to be able to add laser sights to the bow?
Also,imagine slingshot in game.Shooting rocks,made from like 10 wood 2 clothes,with little damage suitable for killing chickens/rabbits.
Or,you can load metal balls and hunt for deers n stuff
About bows and laser sights- Excuse me for partially hijacking the thread here- I wouldn't mind having a "better" kind of bow. A modern bow which requires metal and some other nice things to make, and would have 2 attachment slots where you could add a sight and a laser.
Example image of said bow:

I like both of those ideas!
I think it would be much better just to add a crossbow that you can put attachments on.

This is a better idea. A modern bow that you can attach optics and lasers to, is machine made and aren't craft able by hand tools alone.
It would be better to just have a crossbow that was the next step up from a bow since a crossbow is actually craft able by hand.
Wood + Cloth = Rock?
Interesting. :downs:
I think metal tipped arrows would be a nice addition.
I think metal tipped arrows would be a nice addition.
That and the crossbow idea sounds good. Maybe for the sake of simplicity they could require metal to make the bolts for the crossbow and just continue using the current arrows for bows.
As for the modern bow idea, it could work to some extent. It might not be a good idea to let people make the one in the picture but maybe allow a pulley based bow that has more power/range.

sling shot would be made from wood and cloth smartass.... i just got here and understood that much.
I'm pretty sure that both of these options will be in game later on. The crafting system as of now is NOTHING compared to what it's going to be when the game is complete.

Fixed it for you. :downs:
On a more serious note: I would love to have a Slingshot to harass people with.
On a second note, slingshots could be a great addition to distract players/npc's.
Could be quite cool to distract zombies or whatever creature you need to pass.

Eh, I could go either way with the idea of a slingshot weapon. They're actually pretty terrible weapons that are only fatal under circumstances of EXTREME accuracy hiting certain vital points in just the right way. The only thing they can do fairly reliably is daze a target by hitting them in the head. It would be pretty funny though to pelt someone with rocks/pellets for a while.

I know right? :downs:
I can totally picture a swarm of angry Penis Danglers chasing me around as I wield my Slingshot.

slingshots can fuck you up
go to youtube and look up the slingshot channel

and we can craft an m4 acting like it doesnt require machinery
i hope you realized they will add more "old rustic" weapons and not military weapons.
Slingshot ... a nice idea!
(Check yout the slingshot channel on youtube if you want to see real apocalypse zombie killing slingshots)
And a crossbow would also be nice... Just like in The Walking Dead :)

The slingshot channel actually deals in a great deal more than just slingshots and he's generally using a rubber slingshot of a quality which you might not have access to the materials to make in this situation. He also tends to fire them at very close range.
I stand by my assertion that they're pretty terrible weapons because they simply don't have the range or accuracy of other options like bows/crossbows. They can certainly hurt a great deal under the right conditions (even kill quite easily) but you're not necessarily going to find yourself in those conditions in most fights. Like I said, about the only thing they can do fairly reliably is daze a target since that can be done at a pretty long range with just about any ammo.

Modern sling shots (the Y shape with a stretchy band) are nowhere near as powerful as the original design that lacked the wooden "Y" frame and used regular leather lines instead of a stretchy material. Of course that old sling was a LOT harder to learn and master, which is why the modern design arose.

Do you mean just regular slings? The ones you needed to spin before releasing? I haven't exactly done any direct comparisons between the two but I find that a little difficult to believe. I have seen video of them being tested for their ability to penetrate a skull though and they failed miserably. Then again, that test was done with stones which as you can see on the slingshot channel are pretty terrible projectiles...
Even so, those are even worse weapons to me due to an even lower accuracy over any kind of range. As you pointed out, they're far more difficult to learn and master so it's not exactly a weapon you'd want to be stuck having to use if you found yourself suddenly flung into a survival situation. Especially when you consider that even the weapon's potential power is limited by your mastery of its use.
The sling was a very deadly weapon capable of very long ranges and surprising accuracy. They were especially effective in groups on the battlefield but individuals could be lethal as well. Very easy to construct but hard to master. Then again, most who would have used a sling would have been practiced from childhood and could have slung projectiles through ringed targets at various distances. Early written histories claim that well trained slingers could do far better than just hitting the head of their target. They could hit specific parts of the face with regularity at reasonable ranges. But your average survival dude thrust into the situation certainly isnt going to be that good. Very easy to make though.
Slingshots in the hand of novices or experts would be far inferior to the well trained slinger. But they are easier to use. My grandfather hunted small game successfully as a child with a sling shot. Anecdotal of course but still of relevance.
Slingshots sound cool.
But some better way to aim the bow we have now or a bow 2.0 with better aiming would be helpful.

Yes I mean slings (that's why I said "sling" in the second sentence). Slings are actually better than sling shots but not because of power ratios (the slingshot has more power for it's size), but rather because you can make one that is large enough to work on longer ranges without requiring more than one person. The ones that work for long ranges require multiple people to operate, while with a sling, you could have one that allowed a 2m spin diameter which ends up having more power than a hand sized sling shot.
In other words, slingshots are less efficient in how much power you get for their size but the scalablility of their size is much easier than with a sling shot (which goes from hand size directly up to requiring a device that is too big to be held in one hand and operated in another).
Rather then that fancy compound bow the op linked, would rather see way to add a basic iron sight to bow that is currently in game.

it is true that the material would be hard if not impossible to come by...but then again where are we getting the tools and materials to machine the intricate springs and pieces in the m4 lower receiver or even the damn nails to hold our houses together....maybe add some rubber trees that we can harvest for goop and craft elastic with the furnace or something ? im still on board for slingshots....maybe get really legit and just use spears for stabbing / poking and have the option to craft an atlatl for launching those suckers

i kill rabbits for my stew with a slingshot.... and a true sling would be awesome you can craft a bow why not a sling both weapons firing concepts are easy to grasp but difficult to master

So your saying that a M4 and a pistol isn't machine made??
you have a workbench thats all the machine you need to make high grade weaponry
