When ever I'm starting out I get killed a lot. I think I found the root cause - ePeen envy. When ever I'm running around naked gathering resources, its pretty common for some one in full kevlar with an m4 (big gun obviously compensating for something) to hate on me for rockin' out with my cock out. So why not add a craft-able loin cloth? Make it cost 1-2 cloth, and maybe +5 cold to keep my nuts warm.
Thoughts?
Stupid. Just make pants.
i usually find it the other way around, whenever i have armor of any kind i get hunted down, because i look like im carrying stuff, and when im naked geared people can't be asked to waste bullets.
Ok, I don't actually mind the idea of nudity but I find it slightly awkward to play when I'm playing round my mates house or simply in my living room and I have family members watching me play Rust. I've found a solution for the living room, and it was simply to take my PC upstairs but regarding round my friends house I still find the matter a problem.
I'm not asking you to remove Nudity but to simply allow people who can't play in private, the freedom to have a loincloth option.

dude, make pants.
dude, make pants.
Do you really want to look at wang that much? A loincloth definitely needs to be an option at least, because unlike some of the commenters who obviously enjoy it... I'm tired of looking at pixelnads! And the "make pants" response doesn't account for the time running around trying to look for an animal a fresh spawn can kill. Also with the current bug of animals in trees etc... cloth can be rare sometimes. I'm definitely for less rust wiener!

the point is a lower resource alternative to pants. At the beginning cloth is a very valuable resource. you need it for a bow and a sleeping bag which are much more important than pants. When you have no weapons that is not the easiest to get. I'm just trying to reduce the amount of visible dicks in game. If it were as easy as 'Just make pants' than we would see a lot less nudes in game no?

I don't see the purpose, you get enough cloth from most animals to make a pair of pants, and a deer is usually enough for pants and a shirt.

Correct, but it takes multiple animals to get a sleeping bag and a bow, which you are going to make before pants. If it was only 1-2 cloth to make than you could do it before getting a sleeping bag. This idea is not to make anything easier for any one, or because pants as is are particularly hard to craft, it's only to reduce the amount of visible dick in the game. The loin cloth would reduce the amount of time it takes to cover your dick.

Well, at the same time, it is still impractical since pants serve the exact same purpose, and only takes a few more cloth to make, there is just no point since a loincloth doesn't bring any protection nor is it going to keep you any warmer, it just covers your junk, like pants do, but the pants are protection and warmth as well.
The thing people are overseeing in this, is the fact that players like to role play in this game.
Having clothes with different looks, may not serve a defensive purpose, but it gives players more to work with.
In this situation the loin cloth could be handed out to people that end up as slaves (working for the player, in return for their life) and whatnot.
I think it's a great idea.
I like the idea. As for pants vs. loin-cloth, that's no different than saying you should make a pipe shotgun instead of a hand cannon. While one has the advantage, it costs more resources. The idea the OP is going for with the loin-cloth is to offer some basic censorship at a cheap cost and maybe provide a few points for warmth.
I'd personally prefer it if all the characters started with basic clothing and worked towards getting better protection. I mean, you already start with a rock, 2 bandages, and a torch. Where's your character keeping them? (I'll let your imagination take over here)

I would say simply to make you spawn with a loincloth, but people would probably disagree, since most people seem to like looking at wangs. I dunno what the big deal is though, I think that it should be something you spawn with.

I agree with this.
Spawning with a loin-cloth would be best, however I can already see the loot chests filled with them and people running around naked anyway.

I'll quote garry here, "It's ok for people to see me shoot clothed people in the face but not to see a naked avatar." Logic Fail.

My sentiments exactly, lol. It's not that the nudity is any worse than the violence, it's that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to start nude when you're already starting with bandages and a torch. =)
Rust mankini a la borat
dicks are a part of the game, Garry said he wasn't removing them, make pants. It's not like you can see yourself anyway.
dicks are a part of the game, Garry said he wasn't removing them, make pants. It's not like you can see yourself anyway.
Exactly, people are kinda making a big deal about it, I mean it makes me uncomfortable, but hey, it's a game. The dev team is getting creative and doing something that you don't typically see in a game of this nature, and for that, I fully support them in their efforts. Besides, they have better things to work on than you covering your dangling man chicken.
Penises are the least of your worries.
i really, strongly dislike all the people defending the nudity in rust. Like honestly the least you could do is be neutral towards it, but blatantly defending a game that is consistent of men running around with their dicks hanging out is pretty sad.
Sure I get it, Rust isn't a child's game to begin with, that's cool, but let's not make it an explicitly adult game. It's not even a matter of maturity, I'll play CoD with a toddler in the room, because it's pretty easy to explain the fact it's a game and as far as they are concerned it's just a bunch of guys running around with cool machines in their hands. On the other hand, playing Rust with a toddler in the room is an entirely different story, it's borderline perverted.
As for the excuse of 'the devs have enough to work on', modeling a simple loin cloth on the base avatar would literally take no more than an hour assuming you have to learn Blender first. It's not near considered hard to do and a professional developer should be able to do it within 10 minutes.
Yeah I understand this game is about taking risks, learning things, etc, for the devs. I get and respect that, however this is something that is downright wrong and shouldn't be considered to be okay. It's funny and all but when you get down to it, it's not something that should be in a game publicly available without a rating.
however this is something that is downright wrong and shouldn't be considered to be okay.
There is nothing wrong with the naked body, you are born naked.
Seeing a penis is going to be no more damaging to that young mind than watching you unload a clip in some guys face in CoD.

Society deems you wrong, sorry, don't argue with me. Argue with the morals that society established about 200 years ago, war is okay however nudity isn't.
Not much of a ground for you to stand on here.
i really, strongly dislike all the people defending the nudity in rust.
Well I really strongly dislike it when people insist on cramming their version of morality down my throat as if it's an unquestionable fact. The only true fact of the matter is that being nude is an entirely natural thing. The need for clothing has become an odd social stigma resulting from millennia of people getting used to it. It makes about as much sense as assuming someone is smarter or more important than someone else because they're wearing a suit.
Human beings first started wearing clothing to protect themselves from the environment. This use of clothing makes sense and is reinforced by the game's mechanics but the social stigma that there's something inherently wrong with a person not wearing clothing is just nonsense.
Honestly, I do have more of a neutral stance on the nudity issue but when people like yourself come rushing into the forums feeling the need to tell everyone that disagrees with you that they're inherently wrong simply for doing so; I feel an overwhelming urge to make them look like an idiot.
But loin cloths are sexy.

All you've managed to do is represent my point with even more facts. Like what the fuck man, you just said "The need for clothing has become an odd social stigma resulting from millennia of people getting used to it."
What more do you want for something to become a societal standpoint? You can't argue with the fact that Rust has no gameplay element or reasoning to not have clothing, the simplest of man can create a loin cloth the protect his genitals from nature, yet you're telling me someone who can build a military grade M4 is not fit to wear a loin cloth because he's a primitive human being?
Your argument is all over the place, and frankly I see no direct position or point coming from any of it. Sorry that we live in modern society where certain things are okay and others aren't, if you dislike it feel free to tell the 7 billion other people who couldn't give less of a shit

Oh sorry guy, didn't realise you were the voice of 7 billion people. My bad.
Hope your toddler grows up to be the body hating serial killer you want him to be.
Sorry "society" wants him to be.

You seem to have chosen to ignore my use of the word "odd" in making my argument regarding this issue becoming a social stigma. That's meant to express the fact that it makes no sense and has no real meaning. Making an argument on the basis of "it's just the way it has always been done" is engaging in an act of logical fallacy. It's not a real argument at all.
As for your point about the game having no reasoning to not have clothing, you can't argue with the fact that not enough is known about the intended backstory to make that argument. For all you know, this really is supposed to be a hunger games style survival contest where the contestants are thrown into this situation intentionally with nothing but a rock, two bandages and a torch. We simply don't know if the game has any story reason for it so you can't make the claim that it doesn't.
Also, I never once even remotely suggested that someone capable of building an M4 wouldn't be able to make a loin cloth. The game has clothing in it, you just don't start with any on. That's not the same as the game not having clothing. I just don't see a reason to add something like a loin cloth because it would serve no practical purpose.
As for your final paragraph there, it's almost not even worth addressing. You're aware that I and all the other people here that disagree with your point of view on the subject are part of the 7 billion people right? So are nudists and people that are just generally comfortable with the concept of nudity. In fact, there are plenty of cultures where it's not a problem at all for someone to be nude in public.
If you can't understand my arguments then I see that as an entirely personal problem.
i really, strongly dislike all the people defending the nudity in rust. Like honestly the least you could do is be neutral towards it, but blatantly defending a game that is consistent of men running around with their dicks hanging out is pretty sad.

Have you seen what's in your own pants?
Why not make it an explicitly adult game? What's the problem? You haven't actually given a reason why there can't be penises except that you don't like it.
