Are Rust Admin Panels safe to use with Vac and Facepunch?
17 replies, posted
Hi, I'm newly an admin on a server and I'm using an admin panel from Survive rust but there is also other admin panels out there like "Rusty".
Those are safe to use and Vac and FacePunch Anti-cheat doesn't care about them? How do they know it's not a hacking .exe file?
Just curious, Thanks

I recommend you just familiarize yourself with the console commands / have a notepad document with text lines already made out. This way you can just copy and paste into the console as you need. Also some addons (Rust++ for example) allow for slash commands in chat to access admin features. I've found I don't need any external program to successfully admin. (Although I'm sure it's a bit easier with the UI you are using, just not worth the risk IMO).
Thanks for the fast response. I suppose I'll stop using it if it has a risk to it.
If it's a hack, you will be banned. Use third-party tools at your own risk, because if they contain hacks, even if you don't use them to cheat, you will be banned.
Rust does not care about AutoHotKey scripts that make it faster to send text to the console, because all it does is send text to the console as if you typed it, but fast.
At least one fake copy of Survive Rust's tool is a virus. Some idiot already advertised it here and got perma'd.
If you want to be safe, don't use any apps that interact with Rust.

Really, you got to stop being Garry's broken record. There could be some problems seeing as how it's ALPHA, and it's a Alpha of a anti-cheat for the alpha game. You do not know the answers so stop acting like you do. You could be telling this poor guy the wrong thing and he tries it, and gets banned, comes back and posts on these very same forums and you'd join the crowd 'OH, You hacked! Ha!". I'm glad the anti-cheat has come, but unless valve handed FP it's VAC system and said, 'hey, you can use it and change the name!" I have zero trust in it, I want to play, but won't, intill rubber banding is fixed. I'm not losing twenty bucks of my hard earned money for a bug to a alpha game.
Might want to mention that I have the rubberbanding issue on and off, just saying. The vagueness of how this system works doesn't leave me confident that if I vanished in one spot to the server, and reappear in another, much farther away spot that I won't get banned. Although when I rubberband, I seem to never move from the damn spot it started at -_-, but it happens. Oh well I'm going to play anyways, f-it, i pay child support, so I can waste 20 bucks if I need to :P
Nah, I wouldn't use a hack or a fake copy. I got it right from the survive rust website.
Seems like it's pretty safe but maybe still a slight risk since you're running an .exe that's putting words into the rust console?
Thanks.

I wouldn't think so, but I've seen somewhere that someone's claiming AutoHotKey got them banned, idk. Like I said above, would love for some actual clarification, not the 'internet proof' of It detects hax! LOL!

You believe some random moron with every reason to lie about being caught hacking more than you believe the developers of the game you paid money for?
I don't even need to reply.
As elix mentioned, most of those commands you can do it manually on console anyway. And to be honest i rather do it manually <3 feels better than using some random tool. Kinda off topic but i remember when i first started using linux and i used to copy/paste every single command line until i realise i was taking the wrong aproach. Started typing the commands and a few weeks later i'm fully familiarized with linux. Same goes for rust <3.

20 bucks isn't every reason to lie, hell, that 12 year old in the cheatpunch thread proved that. 20 bux isn't a lot, but no one wants to flush 20 dollar bills down the toilet without any thought at all. I believe cheatpunch works, to a extent. It was also just implemented last weekend, to think it doesn't have bugs is seriously funny. Garry should just write all code ever from now till he dies because not a single bug in anything his or his team does...oh wait, Rust..
Ive been using SurviveRust since Jan 21st, no problems.

And cheatpunch wasn't on your server, and isn't automatically enabled. Just letting you know so you don't think your server is cheat free. -cheatpunch has to be added to the server line to make it run. Also, I feel bad for the influx of hackers into community/modded servers that haven't enabled it yet.

It may not be much to a kid living with his parents who give him money and never check why he needs it, but not every single player lives in that situation. I don't. Do you?
Besides, if someone has a false positive and they're sure that they never ran anything that would interfere with Rust, then they can ignore the braying of the jackasses, because they're confident that they're right. If garry goes, "no, you hacked" and they genuinely didn't, that's a false positive garry has missed, but what anyone not on the dev team says is ultimately not important.
It's the ones who are most vocal and the quickest to get their personal feelings involved that tend to get caught in obvious lies when they claim innocence.

I'm pretty sure cheatpunch is enabled on everyone's client, watching if they hack. It just won't kick you from servers unless they're running Cheatpunch. Just as how you can run Source game servers without VAC enabled, except there's no "safe" servers to hack on because VAC is enabled on all Rust servers and cannot currently be disabled.

No, but I wouldn't hesitate to spend 20 dollars, specially on another game of this caliber. Hell I paid like 80 for Mortal Online, and anyone knows how that went. But the arguement of 'innocent people don't get mad' is bullshit, I've been arrested, and acquitted of someone else's shit and I was still pissed about being accused. I'd be mad to be falsely banned and then people bitching me out for something I didn't do while trying to get a answer. But hey, atleast we know it works for cheaters though. I'm happy with that. I've never played a game where I got the urge to call someone on hacks as much as Rust. Just gives you WAY too much advantage, atleast on CS you can hear someone running at you because they see you through the wall, giving you atleast a headsup on a shot before they get you.
I never said innocent people don't get mad. I said the most extreme crybabies tend to turn out to have been lying every step of the way. There is a distinct difference
Remember what the internet tells you about feeding the trolls, too. Responding to people accusing you of being a lying hacker when they're not a dev is kind of like ordering pizza for the Rust subforum.
Rusty is just a GUI front end to the console. It doesn't provide any competitive advantage. I can't see how on earth this could get you banned. I'm using it.

I'm not saying this is happening with Rust, but in other anticheat systems and games that use them, trolls have been known to distribute trojans that look like innocent utilities but in fact contain detected hacks, just to get the user permabanned from the game. Note, when I said trojan, the trojan part was the obvious hacks, not actual viruses. Those probably come along for us ride as well, of course.

What does this have to do with Cheatpunch, its just like Rusty admin tool, a GUI front end like ExMortis1 said.
And cheatpunch isnt enabled on default, RUST Essentials dev said DO NOT use this untill he gives the ok that the mod and cheatpunch are compatible
