Ok, this (in partial) is a post I made as a reply in another thread, figured it made a decend thread in itself:
1) I have been playing some sort of video game ever since Atari 2600, that dates me I know, but oh well...... And I have been a part of dozens and dozens of game forums over the years. I love gaming, and have met many people over the years, so it makes me sad to see this community shaping up the way it is. A few points everyone should think about when posting...... (I think anyway, but I have been wrong a few times)
2) Too many people with assumptions on how the game is supposed to be played, or what the direction of the game is... Unless you are a Dev, you are assuming.... Shoving your thoery of what the game is "supposed" to be, or how it's "supposed" to be played is pointless and dumb.
3) Too many people with the mindset that everyone should play the game how they play it, period. Sad news for you, this is a sandbox game.... People will play how they want. Personally for example, I think KOS playing is chicken $h!t, but I won't flame any individual person for doing it, that's how they play, and I can understand why people play this way... I don't agree with it, but I do have an open mind as far as the discussion about it goes. That's all I ask from anyone.
4) Just because you disagree with an idea or statement does NOT make you right! You don't have to resort to calling names and flaming people that you don't agree with... 95 out of every 100 threads on this forum have someone bashing someone else (complete estimate pulled out of my arse, but you get the point).... Can we please stop acting like 12 year olds and have some decent conversations? I'll admit, I get hot headed at times, but I do make an effort to stay civilized.... Posting on a forum does not give you a license to be an assclown to other people....
k, got that off my chest... I'm not trying to be a moral compass or anything, but these are concerns I have when I am thinking about the future of not the game really, but this community.... Several folks here have good ideas, relevant questions and concerns, and good discussion starters... But I know a lot does not get posted or talked about out of fear of reprisal and ridicule. The forum mods are very forgiving as to what they allow here, but too many times it goes a little far.
didnt you just copy and paste this from some other thread?

Please, read the very FIRST sentence........
Trying to change the mindset of internet users, it never works unfortunately.
Better just mind own business rather than trying to fix other people.

On the Internet, one should think reading comprehension would be the first thing people would be forced to learn during their time on it. :'D

It is an interesting topic. On one hand, the Internet is a great place because it allows most people to be completely honest about their opinions. On the other hand, this opens up a whole new world for both narcissists and egocentrists alike.
When a community is created, those in control have to tread lightly, as the voices they allow to be heard sets a tone that will attract only a certain type of people. Once the tone has been set, there is really no changing the atmosphere anymore, as the majority agrees with each other and the minority simply trying to help can never have their thoughts taken into consideration.
A good example: I work a lot across both Wikia and Wikipedia. On many wikis for Wikia, their communities get to the point where instead of creating actual content, the environment is instead one of petty political schemes where everyone is at each others' throats and only looking to advance themselves. Another good example: The site No Mutants Allowed was originally created to be a website for all things Fallout, but has now become an atmosphere of general Fallout 3 hatred and shunning those that prefer the new games over the originals.
There is really no changing these communities once they have settled. Once the leadership and regular users have established a norm and have gotten used to each other, that is typically the way it will always remain.
