After seeing video footages of the car that exists in Rust I think it doesn't fit to the game.
I thought about horses as friendly animals.
You can find a saddle and put it on a horse to ride it.
If the horse dies the saddle goes with it.
The saddle is researchable but hard to find. @Nogrim
But you can find it everywhere. (Cities, zombies, airdrop, what ever will follow)
Getting of the horse takes a little bit. (Long animation) @Speakeasy195
About the horse itself:
It should be able to take as much damage as a bear.
Just like yourself it needs food to survive.
If it gets hungry it can't run on full speed.
But it shouldn't die because you can't feed it 24/7.
You need both hands to ride the horse and can't holt a gun while riding it. @Derpan & Speakeasy195
After ExcessEvils Post:
You could need like 40-50 Leather for the shape of the saddle and the rope to the horses head.
20 Lloth to add more comfort to the saddle.
5-10 Metal Fragments to connect all parts of the saddle.
+Horse armor is a good idea too!

If you are riding the horse it doesn't get afraid of other sounds.
But if the horse just stands there without someone riding it it gets scared of sounds like weapon sounds.

You can ride it with one hand and hold your weapon in the other hand.
As soon as you aim with your weapon the horse walks normal speed.

i see no reason not to add a car (a helicopter is in the works btw) but horses would actually be quite awesome, for fuel you could just use food
as for saddle meh why not re-searchable? if you can learn to make an mp5 a saddle would be a joke
As I edited it being researchable after Nogrim post suggestions are open!
I really like that idea.
It would also bee cool to be able to craft the necessary items needed to ride the horse. Saddle and everything.
Horse armoring would perhaps also be cool.
I agree, horses would definitely be better. Not only can they reach places a car cannot, they are a more realistic type of transport.
Yes. Horses, please. Was talking about this with some friends earlier
I like horses a lot better than the idea of people piecing together a car in a wood shack in a "Survival" game.
Horses is a great idea. They would wander around like deer/boar/bears/wolves/rabbits/chickens but run faster.
Please don't implement any kind of fast travel in this game. It will ruin the immersion experience and reduce the size of the world.
Love the horse idea! I kinda don't agree on being able to fire your gun while on it. I'd rathee just see it as something you can use for transport/being a courier of items!

completely agree with this. If you're able to run faster than another person, there has to be some sort of balance. not being able to attack would work.
Also, I think that when you get off the horse, the animation should take a few seconds so that people who are just on foot can still get away.
love the idea
Horses would suit my view of rust nicely and offer a stealthy advantage that you would loose with a car or other motorized vehicle. Not being able to ride and shoot along with a long dismount animation sounds fair. Also fits in with the new gun models, the 6 shooter especially looks very wild west themed. As other vehicles are introduced this could help players during the early game. Raiding could now include horse rustling.
Edit: Horses would be better suited to maneuvering the narrow passes and off road terrain, just did a Google for the car model as i hadn't seen it and i cant imagine that thing should be allowed to drive very fast off road.
I like the car idea a lot more but the horse idea isn't bad at all.
cars< horse
ppl played to much minecraft and watched to much mcgyver. Now they cant craft anything XD
so riding a horse, even with a few smallcarpets instead of a saddle is more realistic than a car.
maybe add a bit more gear to the horse, so ppl can choose whether they ride the horse/donkey, use it as a way to slower transport lot of things (backpacks on the right and left side) but then the player inventory needs a nerf, or use a combo of both a saddle so the player can ride it and small backpack on both sides, but it slows the riding of a horse more than without the backpack. And the player have to choose what kind of transport they want.
but then u need a source of food for the horses, u need to feed it, (water when the featue is implemented) doesnt need so much food if it stands on grass but can be shot from strangers, more food if u let it in ur house. Maybe horse live only about 300(or even less) days in rust, so u will need to search or even breed a new one.
Horses would make a lot more sense in this game. The M4's already seem a bit over the top and I think cars would be pushing it.
Good idea. But I think that sit a lot of resources to craft. And also too long antimation of entering "the car" will not be good (do you have fun with it in games like Scyrim or Oblivion?). No sense in it, because the horses aren't the most imbalance thing in game. :yarr:
how about a place to keep the horse and food?
