I've found a way to "delete" any item. Drag your equipped pants/helm/shoes etc over a non equip-able item and it will delete the item and replace the slot with the equipment you dragged over. I think it should just put the equipment in that slot, but throw the item out instead of deleting it.

This used to be a cool bug where when you did this, it would allow you to "equip" non-equipable items and let you equip more than one helmets/shirts/jackets/pants/shoes/etc. at once. Guess it was patched, although poorly as it seems.
