I've played the game for a total of 24 hours so far, and what have I accomplished? Nothing. As I type this, my room is filled to the brink by my tasty salty tears.
The farthest I've went into the game is getting a house setup with a furnace a work bench and I had a mp5 and a pistol. What happens? A team of faggots with their fancy pants satchel charge blows up every metal door I have and proceed to kill me and basically make me start with nothing but a rock again.
I server hop. On this server I've never gotten past the stone hatchet phase because as soon as I spawn and begin getting resources, a crazed gunman with a m4 starts shooting naked people. As you'd imagine I'm quit boiling at this point and these group of people were so nice to me and offered me to join their team ( I accepted ) They offered me space to build a house on their land. So for the next few hours I put my heart and sweat into my new location. Gathering as many resources as possible and making stuff, all the while I'm chatting and joking with them on TeamSpeak. So today I come home from school and login with nothing but a rock. My new so called friends have just wiped my existence out of this universe.
As dumb as I am and I don't learn, progression in this game eventually is destroyed by satchel charges. I server hop once more and make a house get stuff. This time I even managed to get kevlar and an m4. What happens? I look outside and see a fucking staircase leading up to my window. I block it off with metal doors, but who cares? Satchel fuckin charges. " THANKS FOR THE SHIT HOMEBOY " are the last words I get to hear before I'm left again naked with a fucking rock.
TL;DR - How the fuck are you supposed to progress in this game
You keep playing, build a house where you are nowhere near resources (since people congregate there,) and get better.

Get better? Get better at what? Stacking metal doors to stop satchel charging? Been there done that.
When people in this game fucking want you, they will fucking get you.

The fact that you have to PRAY when you're at work/school or while not playing this game that you won't login to see yourself only with a rock.

So you keep playing, we all have had it bad playing, you just really gotta get better. Be more strategic with where you put your house, go to rad zones to get supplies from crates, all that. You will get there eventually.
Set up in multiple areas, when things get heated in one area, move to one of your other bases. When one houses gets raided, you have things to keep you going in other locations.
Get better at risk management/harm minimisation!

Making multiple bases takes time, getting past the first base will be a miracle dependent on whether a crazy m4 guy comes out or not
I built a single foundation base in the middle of no where, it's FULL of stuff I've gotten from raiding. Not once have I been raided, the only way I've found to actually survive, is hide your base. Hide it very well, you can't stop anyone from raiding your base even if its 22 stories high and 30x30 wide. Just build somewhere WELL away from everyone else, then that way the only thing you really need to gather is Metal/Sulfur mines for more gunpowder.

Takes 10 minutes to set up a 1x1 base..just make a bunch of them in multiple areas, or find some friends
Play on servers with fewer people

Join a noob friendly server
Also don't go solo if you can't pull it off noob
There should be a reason for players with better equipment to MOVE away from the players with lesser equipment.

Gotta ask; what more are you expecting after that point? You've basically got end-game gear, what else do you think this game has to offer once you've reached that point?
The answer is Nothing, it just comes down to maintaining the status-quo by killing other players in the same situation as yourself. That's literally what the game is about; pushing other players down from the hill that you're climbing/sitting on.
Could always play a PVE server.
Unfortunately you got dealt a bad hand by a bunch of jokers who pretended to be friendly. What you need to do is find a few people who actually are and build away. It won't save you from the larger clans but it'll make rebuilding not so hard when there are a few of you collecting resources and also offer a little extra protection if you all play around the same time.
There isn't much of an 'end game' at the moment and when you know what you're doing and you're in an active group of a few people then it takes little more than several house to research everything, have a pretty substantial base and have plenty of gear.
Play on servers with fewer people
Or go on an empty one to practice, that works as well.
I doubt your friends raided you, unless they made it obvious they aren't going to talk to you.
Thanks for the actual question, made this so much easier.
The EASIEST way is blocking their entrance with a wood wall. Then when they try to C4 it down, put wood into your hotbar and as it goes off, SPAM THE SHIT out of the corresponding hotkey. Adding wood to the 4th slot and pressing 4 when looking at a damaged item repairs it by a little. If they have minimal explosive charges, this will protect you.
It's cheap and a pretty dickish way to stop a raid, but it works if you're struggling to get anything good.
If you don't want to take drastic measures such as these, say so and I'll give you an alternative.
blah blah
Get used to it, this game isnt even done yet.
This game is still in progress. Obviously the devs are trying to change how the game plays, right now there are people in Kevlar who will hunt naked people.
I can pretty much guarantee it wasnt the lads you grouped with who raided you, a clan probably just came through and took everyone out..
Its VERY hard at first if you don't know what your doing, so just be more carefull in your planning
This is a hardcore game in my eyes and not suited to everybody, but persistence is key ;)
Completely agree.
I have to play at least 6 hours to start up a base,a proper one
Right now, the game is pretty unbalanced, no doubt about that. Getting into bases is pretty easy. It's also an alpha, so it's to be expected. That doesn't mean we can't argue about possible problems and solutions.
Now. With moderate to large clans, stacking c4 over time is pretty easy. By the time most players have a few metal doors, big clans have a large amount of explosives. The main problem is, there is no artificial limit to the amount of c4 you can get right now. There is, however, an artificial limit to the amount of defenses you can build in your base. Since the only real line of defense are metal doors, the artificial limitation to defense is base size. You can't build a base of infinite size, you can however, over time, farm an infinite amount of c4, you can't however keep expanding your base to add more doors. You surely see the issue here.
Now, I like PvP and raiding. It's a core part of the game. It's fun. Especially with big, competitive firefights. But since a majority of raiding happens in the off hours while you're a sleeper, it doesn't really contribute to the action does it, at least when they can basically just raid everything in the off hours instead. In the end, I think raiding should be there of course, but more limited and balanced. A possible way to do this would be to limit the amount of c4 like, for example, only allowing it to drop in controlled events like the air drops. These happen over a fixed time somewhat and, as such, would impose an artificial limit to the amount of explosives in the server.
Having more limited raiding capabilities would also incite players to pick targets more carefully based on risk/reward ratios, and possibly pitch big clans against other big clans whose Loot would pay out the expense on charges.
Edit: I think i might turn this into a real post. I can already see the flame I'll get.
Here's how to progress in this game: Don't cry, don't whine, and don't ragequit - Keep trying, and eventually it'll be better. If you aren't in a sleeper server, put your most important items in your inventory before logging off, that way if you do get raided, you won't lose your necessities.
Griefing (building walls in other peoples houses, blocking off with barricades etc) is just not a good move.
Its dickish as hell, and more often than not a bannable offense. What I dislike about this game is americans playing on EU servers to gain advantage. Theyre 6 hours behind us. When we go to sleep at abouts 00:00 they just got home from work.
Its more a fight to stay online than a fight to stay alive. We held off an attack yesterday, logged in this morning to find a friggin 5 story stairwell on the side of our house.
That must have taken ages, had any single one of us been online they wouldve died. I can understand how people find it fun to take some gear from time to time.. but there must be NO satisfaction in getting stuff this way. NO skill required. Go out and farm wood on your nonpopulated server, climb into a window and pick up some kevlar. Let the others farm all day then just take their stuff during the night.
"Hide yo kids, hide yo wife cuz they rapin errrrbody out here".

That's actually a fair point too, and tires directly with my raising post in a way. People who can do nothing but play night and day can absolutely destroy everyone else and everything else. They can farm copious amounts of explosives, or build stairs up to your ceiling, especially at times of the day when they are meet with absolutely no resistance. This has been a problem with this genre, but is much more apparent in rust due to sleepers and volatile spawns.
It's also not easy to solve. Besides some artificial limits, i have no solutions right now.
Yeah once you hit the end game, there isn't much else to do.
There doesn't seem to be enough resources to go around with the larger servers, so to combat that you kill everyone.. driving them from the area and potentially taking what they had.
I agree with what someone else said, your friends probably didn't wipe you out.
The downside to this game at the moment is someone can just login when we are working/sleeping and with enough c4 just tear bases up without opposition. That and door permissions are probably the two main things I am looking forward to see changing.

Agree, door permissions would help until there's proper balance. I see a good deal of flamers on the forums concerning balancing raiding. However, since the game is alpha, that will likely change regardless.
The best we can do as a community is identify the problems, and try to offer creative solutions that might help the devs.
A great part of the community seems to not have a problem with raiding itself, just with how excessively and easily it's done by a few elite that are able to play all night, or simply are in an opposite timezone.
The worst thing about this game is that it benefits "nolifes" or poeple who don't have to go to work and just sit on the computer all day. Solo player has absolutely no chance of surviving, and we have to play in the 2-player servers to be able to play properly.
Well after two days of playing it, heres my story..
Ive spend hours the past two days trying to actually build a base to defend myself in. I can see others around me also doing the same, until some nub with a fully auto rifle comes along, greiffs everyone until they log then moves on. This happens multiple times per day and generally makes you pissed off for spending 40 mins collecting resources for someone with a hugely over powered weapon to take them from you. Not only that, he waits outside for you to either meet the same fate or log off. Meaning you cant play the game you just spent £15 on!
This guy took out everyone in the neighborhood! I was fully clothed and died within seconds! If somethings not sorted i cant see many people hanging around to play this cos giving 13 year old kids such power in a video game is not a good idea in game like this. You wouldnt leave your air rifle out for your kids would you? No, because they are likely to shoot the neighbors cat or dog or something. I think the devs need to be sensible here and also limit what sort of power can be given to people in the game.
My ideas
* Remove all powerful weapons. So just leave the bow and arrows and the home made pipe weapons. Maybe add a crossbow and such.
* remove c4 completely and exchange it for less powerful home made TNT.
* If you build something no one else should be able to build in a set radius of your foundations unless you give permission by some way or another.
* Always show names!! This is a must!! And show the greifers so it at least gives you a hint as to who may be good or bad!!
I had four friends i was going to recommend this to but im going to save them the anger! Though its a shame because this game has such good potential, its just these small but huge things that need to dealt with, and quick before it brings with it a shit community. Meaning this game will be niche for just a small few. Not good for business Garry.
there are pve (player vs environment) servers. It could be a good idea to try those out if you're finding it difficult against others?
Why don't some of you guys on here who are struggling individually, band up. Stick together and build your own little settlement? Could be an idea worth exploring. :)
