i saw a thread earlier wanting some kind of security, and i started thinking about it. what is the best way to add a secuirty feature while without changing the feel of rust, and i think i found it. the idea i had is listed as followed
lockpick: right now you can pick a lock on inventory for a time, but why not doors? base it on chance with metal door being harder to pick should also happen.
wooden/metal door: wooden doors are now as strong as metal doors, with metal doors only being able to be taken down with a lockpick if its above a value of detioration.
c4: can now be placed on doors, the mechanic of this varies as i dont know which is best. either have it perma-set whenever you place it, password protected as anyone who is given access to the door allows the person to go through without a hitch, or maybe do it with just explosives. im not sure about this one as it seems like it could be unbalanced easily. also the C4 can only be placed by the doors owner if it is metal, it just explodes if it is wooden.

To your Idea, no. I don't agree.
It would make sense yes. But it would be even more easy to get into another guys base. Now you at least need a bunch of C4, later only a bunch of Lockpicks and luck.

thanks for pointing out the suggestion forums. how would it be easier? From my perspective, makes it harder, as lategame you have no clue if there is c4 behind the door, and it buffs wooden doors because it is useless for the most part.
Claymores are one method of home security, I'd also like to be able to rig shotguns to trip wires, perhaps tame wolves to be pets that would both be able to bark at strangers near my home when I'm online and attack anyone who came in while I was a sleeper. Poison traps inside certain containers could be awesome, attach them inside a crate to an item of value and the careless looter in a hurry will break the vial they don't see at the bottom of the crate and create a poisonous miasma that gets him and his cohorts a DOT effect that, while unlikely to kill them, will make them an easier target for anyone who isn't friendly to their cause.
But honestly, these sorts of traps would only be a mild deterrent, a more viable solution would be to allow people to pry up floorboards in foundations and hide their most valuable possessions better, so only the owner would know to bust up this particular sleeping bag and open this floorboard, which would again really just necessitate raiders to bust up everything in homes they raided, taking longer and increasing the likelihood someone else nearby would kill them more than it would ensure any valuables were safe.
Part of the game is the risk of loss, which is why I personally feel like the suicide house design is a silly way to play, and will therefore C4 the crate-door and throw grenades inside until I think they don't have any furniture left.
That being said, I'd love to see a lot of potentially time consuming options detrimental to a quick raid, I think perhaps a metal safe that could be picked up and carried off, making the looter move as though their leg was broken might be interesting. To open the safe without the code it would have to be brought up to a very high height and thrown off, C4 would destroy its contents. Sure it'd be a ludicrous gameplay mechanic, but potentially quite entertaining. It would also give you yet another reason to watch a raid and strike the raiders when they were absconding with the loot.
Perhaps a trap that would cover the raiders with paint, leaving a trail for awhile leading in the direction they ran afterward and making them easier to follow. Some sort of mutant/animal pheromone that renders the person who sets off the trap a huge aggro radius for wildlife. I think there is a lot of potential for some interesting traps in the future, although these will all just add up to make things more interesting during a raid that occurs when you're online, if not even one of your group is around to try to take advantage of the wounded enemies you'll still lose all of your goodies. Of course, there is the potential that the raider may receive their comeuppance from someone else, and sooner rather than as a karma driven retribution over time. Anything you can do to make the enemy feel that the raid wasn't fruitful enough to justify having wasted time and resources on.
0/10, would not raid again.
