Ever hear the phrase "don't put all your eggs in the one basket"? Well it applies here. My clan and I regularly help newbies find their feet and help people being attacked by zombies and whatnot, however we very frequently raid and always kill on sight at night time or near airdrops. We're used to seeing the damage that can be inflicted from a raid having been on both sides of it and as such I have a little bit of advice for you that will make getting back on your feet significantly easier. The devs were kind enough to put this amazingly underused item in the game, the "small stash". This (craftable) beautiful bastard allows you to have a 3 slot bag which is no bigger than an old school coin purse and is only visible within 2 METERS! It can be placed in incredibly hard to reach and find places, combined with its very short draw distance you have an almost 100% guaranteed backup option for if you get raided. With these stashes I have been raided, killed then managed to get to my stash, grab my full kevlar, medkits, grenades, ammo, M4 and MP5 and get back to my main base before they took everything. They were overconfident and thought I would be gone for good until I filled them full of holes. Do not underestimate the usefulness of spacing out your rare items, if you're not going to use a high tier item immediately, then stash it elsewhere so it can't be found. You can find wood/metal/cloth frequently, but that 5 slot rifle/shotty and full kevlar will make you hurt if you've got it all stacked up behind only 2 metal doors. TL;DR: Small stash draw distance is only 2m and can be hidden between hard to see rocks in hard to reach places, stash your rare gear in these away from your base. I guarantee you will not regret it.
Thank you very much for the tip, as a person that plays on a server with many bandits and raiders this is brilliant, wish I had seen this sooner.

Best spots are near the resource coast and in the cliffs near the hangar as there's so many places to hide things. Just remember to leave yourself a pickaxe, it's a godsend when recouping your lost house XD
I've seen much love for this nifty little sack. Thanks for the tip!
Don't know if it is intended or not but my stashes, both inside and outside of my base, despawned yesterday. So I advice you to use them only if there is no other way
That's because when you don't interact with things for a while, they begin to disappear
