@ Garry and Dev team, about bans - Rust

HEllo, i tried to contact Garry with severals PMs but i did not receive any answer. This is not a cry post or anything, in fact , first of all i want to thank you for this banning wave,and hope u'll keep it up cause this game is beautiful but i had TONS of friend quitting for cheaters. Now here's my little fail story and, in the end, i'd just like an answer :) We're changing server every week because of cheaters, OFFICIAL server was unplayable cause 99% of ppl were cheating, so , the only way, was to keep changing server until we would've been able to find one with no cheaters or , at least, a small number. We played for one week or so on a server that seemed to be legit, we farmed as hell, then we started goin around equipped and stuff We started noticing that there was a group of 3/4 ppl that were always able to engage us from behind, no matter the location we were, rocks, plains,while we were raiding a house, WE NEVER SEEN EM FIRST and i dont think we're that noob All the server was cryin about those ppl cheating but admins didnt ban em, cause they wanted PROOFS. Those guys only used ESP, no aimbots or crap i think, cause they used to miss a lot of hits. How to give a proof that a guy is using a ESP? Use ur own ESP and fraps it running around a mountain or so, i think. Ok , i downloaded a free esp (a crappy one, it wasnt the one you see on youtube) and i hanged around 2/3 hours on that server , noticing there were A LOT more ppl using it (if you use it, i easly understand who uses it), in fact, that server used to have 60 players avarage, and now after the ban wave it has 25 (10 is my clan rofl) Ok so i changed again that DLL file with the original one and then quitted. Today i logged in and i'm banned for ESP. IT's ok, i used ESP, but as i've seen by ur posts, u can see WHEN ppl installed it so you can notice i installed yesterday and used it for a really small period of time, and i'm not saying i did the right thing , but we "lost" a lot of time on this game because of cheaters, maybe u dont play the gam as DEVs but it's quite sad when u farm farm farm and when it comes the funny part of the game, you have to change the server cause u play against cheaters. In conclusion my question is: Do you want to make a difference between ppl who used ESP/aimbot/lighthack/superjump etcetc and ME? (and i say me, but maybe there are other person, but i think i've been particullary unlucky) will this be a permanent ban or maybe a temporary ban? and i repeat myself,GLAD you finally started dealing with cheaters. Hope i'll get a answer here cause i think u have 12412412312919512051 thousand of PMs and that's why i didnt receive any answer. Bye and keep it up! :)

As far as I'm concerned, no matter your motives, using a cheat makes you a cheater and that's that, we can't start banning or leaving people alone with their cheats based on why they've decided to use cheats, that's just idiotic.

If you installed a cheat you made a bad decision. Your motivation for doing it is irrelevant. Facepunch does not and should not have the resources to have a hearing on every single person who gets banned. You install a cheat you get banned. It's not complicated.

Deal with it. You should know better that using Hacks to proof "something" will always result on a Ban.

There's no way he can know why you were using it. Why would anyone believe you? I agree that it's hard to detect cheaters using ESP, but using it yourself isn't the way to go.

(We got a total of two airdrop containers, mostly by luck since the hackers dominated airdrops 99.9% of the time) Last week (before the new bans) we actually raided the base of a know hacker "athemo", and emptied/griefed his base and he left the server after that! It was a big effort for us to gather resources for seven C4 in such a competitive environment for resources, but we did it, and kicked his sorry ass! You and your buddies are just impatient little twits that think that two wrongs somehow make a right.

The ban will stay forever. You used a cheat and got banned. VAC doesn't care about the backstory.

If you're gonna call someone a cheat, you need to have proof. If you try and can't get proof then you approach the server admin privately (not in gen chat) and let them know what's going on. If they're good admins they will still want you to try and get proof but they will also start their own investigation. If they don't and still insist that you provide proof before they will do anything then you're on a bad server, find a new one. Then again, this is the Internet so a rational response was probably out of the question...

Sure, you downloaded a free ESP to give 'proofs' to the server admin. Quit cheating and you wouldn't need to handle these bans. Just to let you know, using and removing doesn't matter, you got flagged by the system so it's over.

I'm glad you got banned OP. No I don't think they should treat you differently. I think if you want to play Rust you should go buy another copy of it and just play without cheats like the rest of us and trust that the Devs will do their best to curtail the cheating in the game. I don't view you any differently than any of the other cheaters, regardless of your intentions. A zero tolerance cheating policy is just that.

That "free ESP" probably has something unpleasant hidden inside it. Its probably for the best you scan your computer.

I can see why you did this but in all honesty you should have known that in time the hackers will be rooted out, the game is in alpha. Did you not think the devs are working on rooting all the hackers out and making the game an enjoyable experience? You downloaded an ESP hack to try and prove that they were hacking, but at the same time you did the same thing as they did. You would have been better off to just leave the server and wait for cheatpunch to be officially released and force-enabled on all servers. I know it's shitty, trust me I have left and joined servers at least 5 times now after grinding to research all the guns and metal parts, collecting like mad for days and days and then losing it all because of a few hackers.

You ignored it and are now permanently banned for hacking.

A cheat is a cheat, and you're a cheater. The Rust community needs to stand up against cheaters with zero tolerance. I am absolutely pleased that Gary has been completely transparent and front about Cheatpunch.

I would only come here and ask for something ban-related if I never used anything. Fair or not, you lost 20$. Just buy it again and don't EVER think of using a cheat again...

There's an awful lot of people who have been banned lately because they downloaded hacks just so they could prove other people were hacking. Doesn't anyone have little brothers anymore?

Doesn't anyone have little brothers anymore?[/QUOTE] I don't know what it is, but every new anticheat element that gets added always has a big explosion of people who got caught out because they were either too impatient to wait for the problem to be solved, or they didn't believe the devs. For the first month Rust was on Steam, the title screen had the VAC warning, but VAC was in silent detection mode. Because Rust was not really secured against hackers at all at that point, it was an epidemic. Days and days of crying about hackers on servers went seemingly ignored by the devs. People started accusing garry of putting that warning up to scare people as the only deterrent. Some people allegedly decided to start hacking at that point since they doubted the warning. Then 300+ VAC bans were handed out, and FP gloated loud and long and the Rust forum became more rusty with hacker tears.

Even fewer as a player, if there's even any. As an admin you can: Trololo be invisible Godmode Teleport to players (Most useful tool) Teleport to grids (Would be useful if I didn't have to use a trail and error approach to actually learn how to use it properly) But, Where's the noclip/fly tool? Where's the 'detect sleepers/players' tool/log? Where's the remove foundations/build parts tool? Perhaps even a 'view player's screen' tool would be useful, you know like COD killcams, except real time. So, in conclusion, OP shouldn't have been banned. Getting proof is practically impossible - even for admins! More administrative/maintenance tools please! (Seriously, they added fucking invisible clothes and 'uber' hatchet. That's not at all useful in an administrative / debugging capacity).
