Would a skill-oriented, in-depth combat system appeal to you?
Since pvp is one of the biggest pillars in Rust. You will encounter other players and they are often hostile. Rust is often compared to other games and began as a dayz clone, but an in-depth combat system is often missing in a lot of games. This would include a cover mechanic, maybe side dodges for melee or a heavy strike that can be charged. Let me know if you guys would like to see something like this, or comment what you would like to see.
Post your thoughts!
side dodges ok..but not heavy strikes that can be charged. This isnt a fantasy mmorpg

its just slower and stronger rather than a quick jab, any suggestions on what you would want to see?
idk just yet, but i can agree that the combat system needs more as its a little too simple right now.
I think M4's should take more metal to build, and shouldn't be dropped in crates. I am tired of being KoS by some guy who has played on end for hours a day, waiting around resource areas to kill new people.

Maybe a push, peek mechanic, counters, things along that line. It would also reward players with skill rather than players who have played the most hours.

I personally think they shouldn't be craft-able at all
There should be hero and bandit outfits so we know who to shoot on sight, no matter what server you go too, you keep ur hero or bandit clothing or symbol so everyone knows.

garry said no to that already

I dont know about that, it takes away the tension of not know whether someone is going to give you food or fill you with bullets. Garry has been a big promoter of "emergent gameplay"

Would love to get some feedback from you guys
The only thing they should do is the following :
Just allow us to SPRINT+MELEE. Everytime u have to stop to do a melee hit,it's retarded.
They probably have more important stuff to work on than the combat-system...
IF anything's going to be changed with the combat system, it should be giving people a reason NOT to K.O.S. Because at the moment, if a full kevlar comes across a fresh spawn; the full kevlar player would just kill him for fun.

That would solve part of the problem, with the system you don't know how good the other player is making everyone a threat. Even those less equipped than you.

Isn't that what Garry was aiming for?
That sort of feeling, or type of gameplay?
Like; Should I attack this guy? Or Not...

A more in-depth combat system would only further that sort of feeling, thats why i think its a good idea. Not to mention it would make for some exciting gameplay.

Without a proper combat system, and Im not saying that the current model isnt proper, then this game would just be a building sim. Combat goes hand in hand with almost everything else in this game.
As far as the KoS kevlars.. How many people strip down and go harvesting? Ive seen it many times. Ive also seen people run around naked, packing a shotgun, and claim that they are a fresh spawn only to blow a hole in your back the second you turn around. As the game currently sits, there is no way of telling if someone is a fresh spawn other than watching them pop out thin air. Once something is implemented that would allow you to -see- if someone was carrying something, then you can cry about the KoS'ers. As it goes right now, each little naked guy running around could end up totting an inventory full of goodies... or that amazing rock we all know and love.

100% agree. When death is such terrible thing you all the tools you can get in order to survive. A better combat system would make the game much better. Also, check out my community speaks thread, on there i talked about how weapons should be equip to primary and secondary slots so they always show up on your character. Also backpacks would be a visible indicator.
This can be cool:

Eh. I'd like to see a good leaning function.. but rolling and sliding seems a bit too much. Any crack shot will laugh and blow your head off if you try and slide/roll in front of them.. mainly the roll.
Just a cover system would be great, also the side step and maybe a gun bash, might blurr your screen if you get it by it. Just an idea.
I wouldn't mind having some small selection of "skills" you could research or character development. Nothing to in depth. Just the small layer of progression.
I think it would work great for a game like rust, within reason. For example, prone would be really nice, but I am thinking of prone where either you can move but not shoot at all, or can shoot but cannot move at all. Additionally, a peek mechanism would be quite useful, probably a life-saver in many situations.
Agreed, peek and prone would work very nicely. But I honestly enjoy the simplicity now.
