Launch Parameters Stopped Working Suddenly (Patch issue?)
13 replies, posted
So i patched to the latest version last night. Everything seemed fine. A lot of people were saying they got upwards of 20% better frame rates due to the patch.
To test it out, I deleted my launch parameters and checked (not much of an increase.) I went to go back to my launch parameters where I was getting 60-70 frame rates, except it does not appear to work any longer.
Parameters were; -force-d3d11 -force-feature-level-9-1 -force-feature-level-9-2 -force-feature-level-9-3 -nolog (note this worked FINE pre-patch and even a short while post-patch).
I've verified the integrity of my Steam install, it's fine. I've restarted Steam multiple times, I've rebooted my entire system, etc
PLEASE tell me this is a bug or something. As this has been mentioned by myself in other performance threads, without launch options I barely maintain 30 frames per second, but with it I get upwards of 70.
Help :(
Isn't the first parameter supposed to be -force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded instead of -force-d3d11?

That's one method yea.
Really starting to get worried here. What little I played post-patch was fine. Took a break for a few hours, now this..

So can we get a dev team member to respond?
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Rust, etc It just is not recognizing launch options, which I can guarantee because they tend to make terrain and rocks look very plain looking textures yet with no launch options its all the same regular textures :( This is not unplayable if we cannot access launch options

Bump, this needs address asap
Ok I've double checked this, on stable branch and dev branch; I had to find one code that would easily detectable thing, i.e. the windowed mode command. So I added -popupwindow to my launch options, and then the figurator opens prior the game I make sure the "Windowed Mode" box is unchecked.
Game completely still ignores -popupwindow as well as the above parameters I mentioned.
This did NOT happen prior to the patch. Now I've clocked in over 700 hours in the game so I obviously have a lot of fun playing it but unless this can be corrected I won't be playing much more.

It kinda sucks, I get 10 fps without the launch params.
They were working post-patch for me and and then I logged off that night, got back on the next day and they no longer worked.
It's still working for some people too, I have posted on reddit and here about it. :/ Sucks not being able to have windowed borderless.
Yup still not working a day later :( Unplayable for me
Those launch parameters are unsupported, so don't bother the dev team because they don't support people using those options. In other words, if they break, it's not the devs' problem because they don't care if they work or not.
Forcing Direct3D11 and then forcing weird feature subsets of DirectX is not something the devs bugtest and try and fix. You get performance increases because you're glitching up the renderer in unusual ways and, it just so happens, causing the game to render faster.
Changes to the game may conflict with the weird glitchy conditions these launch options create, and things that used to get skipped may not be getting skipped now, or may be causing errors that slow things down. The devs are not going to reverse their changes to bring back performance to the weird launch options. That's the risk you take when you rely on unsupported features.
force feature is not supported by the devs
it's purely an item of unity, not intentional. So if it fails, you're stuck on a boat without a paddle.

What the developers say:
“We are in very early development. Some things work, some things don't. We haven't totally decided where the game is headed - so things will change. Things will change a lot. We might even make changes that you think are wrong. But we have a plan. It's in our interest to make the game awesome - so please trust us.”
-popupwindow no longer working, cannot get game windowed borderless

Creating a new thread will not help resolve the issue. imo
Made a thread about this earlier, These commands are unsupported but its just weird because there were no patches and the game was responding to the parameters fine
I realize these commands are "unsupported", and I realize that alpha is alpha. Trust me, I am not new to the forums, and my 700+ hours played time pretty much indicates I'm well aware it's alpha (meaning Im used to dealing with bugs).
However this is not about the commands not functioning as usual, or something changing, its the fact they no longer work at all, period. People can't even play borderless windowed mode anymore because the launch command doesnt work. None of them do. Whatever they did in the recent patch just made the client stop accepting commands entirely.
And you can't tell me, if you were getting 70+ FPS for months upon months then dip down to 10-20 that wouldnt bother you even in the slightest? Alpha may be alpha but that alpha still needs to be playable. Can't be an alpha tester if the alpha no longer functions right?
-on reconsideration, this added nothing and I should re-read posts right before bedtime before submitting them-
I'm just going to say that there's a fine line between helpful and vital feedback and whining about problems that can be summed up as "something broke in alpha," and you may need to put up with inconveniences and frustrations on occasion during the alpha phase of a game. Something evidently broke with the launch options function; reporting that is good. And that's what's actually useful and wanted.
I can't start the game after the last patch, because of this. Because the launchparameters aren't working anymore, this problem still exists: http://playrust.com/some-information/
Some users running windows 8.1 have had trouble entering the game. Some other users have found a fix that works for them : Right click on rust, go to properties, click ‘set launch options’ and enter : -force-d3d11
