• We need Maps & Compasses!

Just like the title says! i find it very hard to find friends.(impossible for me actually) A nyone know if they will add a map and compass in next patch, or if they will even add them into the game? Thanks.
You don't need a map and compass to find your way around. The current playable area is littered with landmarks and the sun/moon should be more than enough to provide you with a sense of direction. Part of surviving is learning the lay of the land. Give it a couple of weeks, you'll get it.
Play more and you'll get a hang of it. The map is not that big...
to your thread. No we dont need Maps.Take a look to the Wiki, their you will find a map. To learn where you are and find your position out of some points isnt really hard. Compass,ok.Map,no
I know this may get hate but join a PVE. Learn the map (at least around the road) and you will have no problems unless you run to far (way far) from the main spots at finding people. If a map and compass got added in then people will be like "we got this stuff it should show us were we are on the map so we can find friends" then go to showing friends then go to we need map jammers and so forth and so on. If you want a map print out one or draw a make shift map and keep it near your pc. "When" the map is changed and it gets bigger (current is 2x2 new is said to be 8x8) then a map could be handy as a time saver but only if you still had to figure out were you were as a reference point.
I agree with trickcard. Join a PVE server, and learn the basics of the map. The big hill, radtowns, and youll navigate really easy. Also, dont forget to use the sun, you will know where is north, west and so on.
Having the possibility to craft a compass is not outrageous in my opinion. [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] And actually if you have a map ingame that doesn't show your position it is the same has having it on your second screen on a webpage, so I don't see why it would be a problem to have it ingame. Well what trickcard said makes sense too, if peeps start asking for more and more and it creates a snowball effect it might get ugly.
I think it would be ok to add a map where only areas appear you already were. But it should be "expensive" like 50 or 100 cloths and maybe some metal for pencil stuff.

"Right now" the map is a good size were a few hours looking around and getting a feel of it is more then needed to learn land marks (road, rad towns, mountains, ect.) so that your friend on vent or chat can say "hay I'm by the town with the smoke stack" and you can tell them " ok run to the rocks on the other side of the road and hide i'll be right there". But when the new "island or land or what ever were on" gets updated to be bigger I'm all for a map do to land marks are going to more then likely be farther away from each other and not connected to the big loop we have now.
Would be very nice, but the map is not that big. So until they add more maps, we dont need them.
A map may work but it needs to be very basic, a simple map and compass that shows only landmarks and does not show your location.
A map may work but it needs to be very basic, a simple map and compass that shows only landmarks and does not show your location.
yeah of course. if someone knows the treasure maps from black flag ... they should look like that.
a compass makes a lot of sense, since a primitive compass is actually very easy to make, I do agree that a map would be nice, but i think they should work like minecraft maps, where they start off completely blank and more gets revealed as you explore
Here the map!
Here the map!
That map is very poorly made.
You really do not need a map for this game right now. If you play enough you learn the map. Of course, I don't know why I'm saying this... My friend has played over 250 hours on Steam alone and doesn't know the map like I do. Go by landmarks..
That map is very poorly made.
What makes you say that? It's always been more than accurate enough for me to get around, and it's nice to have names to reference distinct areas. Oh and I also agree that eventually you won't really need a map. Slowly but surely everything will start to piece together as you travel and explore. I think it's totally worth it (although dangerous sometimes) to just run around the road loop. It'll take you to most of the useful/populated areas (most of the time).
If you're still having trouble head to the top of the huge mountain in the north and look down on the area. It will be more than enough of a visual to get a good feel of the lay of the land.

If you look at the other map available on the wiki, it is a much better quality and not so cluttered with useless names. On the map you used, areas are unnecessarily broken up into smaller parts and labeled. As for a compass...The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The moon rises in the east and sets in the west. If you still need a compass, you apparently also need training wheels. A map.....perhaps your first few days, maybe even week of playing. But after you learn where everything is, this is pointless.
whilst what everyone is saying about "play more and you'll learn the map" is true.. for new players who want to group up this is not the case. which is why you need a compass/map or ability to die and spawn on a friend.
Play more and you'll get a hang of it. The map is not that big...
Can you imagine once they open up the entire map?! I'll stay in my little area for ever haha
Can you imagine once they open up the entire map?! I'll stay in my little area for ever haha
what do you mean open up the entire map? is there more area waiting to be unlocked or something?
Just like the title says! i find it very hard to find friends.(impossible for me actually) A nyone know if they will add a map and compass in next patch, or if they will even add them into the game?
what do you mean open up the entire map? is there more area waiting to be unlocked or something?
Go out and explore. Those maps are player made and incomplete. There is a huge valley of resources over the hills NE from the road once you clear the mountains. This whole thing is one giant island.
No. For the 1000th time. No. Fuck no.
Shift tab. Its just like having a second screen, only not as much. But its really no different than if you have to open an ingame map.
Shift tab. Its just like having a second screen, only not as much. But its really no different than if you have to open an ingame map.
This. + we don't need map. Unable to find your way with the online map? then you don't need compass either
at the very least, there should be a /location command that shows your coordinates like in EQ1
Topography. Use topography to match yourself to where you are. Yes the rocks everywhere makes that hard. But its doable.
