Make the ability to tame animals, wolves and bears.
If they throw roasted meat, they become companion and help in the battle, and automatic enter combat.
God no, this is not Ark.
That's not original is it lol
then we could get a dog
Please no.
this is already possible on a modded server

I gonna eat your dog.
Currently animal AI is incredibly lacking. Rather than being a faithful protector, a tamed animal would more likely just stand in place or get stuck in the terrain with the current AI. And an animal suddenly becoming smarter by being tamed is just silly.
Also, animals as they are are not very durable. It would not make any sense at all if taming an animal caused it to suddenly become a bullet sponge. And I for one would not like to see the board flooded with demands for restoring pets that were killed by "hackers".
Once horse riding is on, I think then it might be a possibility.
Just another thing to kill or steal.

Yep. The plugin is called Pet. They will attack, stay, eat.

I don't know, it would effect and change rust too much, one key feature of rust is too survive, and that includes the danger of the wild, taming them takes that aspect away a little bit, i like the touch of hostile animals running at you with the only objective of ending your life, it's stimulates roleplay and i love it, creates a sense of further challenge.

just another example of emergent gameplay.
I like the idea of guard dogs, taming a wolf is unrealistic and it doesn't sound like much fun to me in game.
Like, what am I gonna do with it, throw steaks at it and make it gain hearts?
Maybe you can find puppies and other "pets" in airdrop crates? Then raise them to guard your house, or sniff out food, or loot. We could breed them to make more, then there could be wild dogs running around on some servers trashing crops and fighting other animals and people.

well you can actually tame wolves to a degree, but the method we use in rust needs to suit the game itself; throwing steaks at it for hearts being a little ridiculous, and the potential for the animal to be killed pretty damn easily making really intense "training" a bit of a waste of time.

I really dont think these replies adequately respond to your suggestion.
I like your idea, but I think it's a bit too early for that. Keep in mind this isn't Minecraft. It's unlikely the team is gonna stop at a handful of wildlife NPC, so keep your mind open to other possibilities. (Personal Robots with miniguns, come on! Wolves can suck it.) Not only that, the AI system is currently fucked.
As far as I know, as with every-other game of this genre, animal taming is to be expected.
That being said, I'd love to see some Falconry. Having a bad ass eagle to scout, peck out the eyes of the wounded, fetch downed weapons, and catch snacks for me (and it) would make my panties wet.
