Drew's Kick-Ass Art thread. [Fan Art, Models, and Concepts for Rust]
5 replies, posted
Hey there!
I'm Drew. I am an ex-indie dev (work sucks, Chefs have no free time) and really awesome at making bulk assets, concept art, and textures.
I'm making this thread as a dump space for all my art, workshop stuff and suggestions.
I had a really bad experience with my foray into internet art a few years back. So, to be honest I'm really quite anxious to be posting any sort of art again, bear with me if I seem a bit off.
As for what ended my art career; in short, [I]if your famous, don't have an opinion.

Salvaged Bow Concept:

I had and idea while shooting my Razorback yesterday: "What if a newman stuck some leaf-springs to the limbs of factory made bow?"
Not only would that fix issues an old broken bow limb might have but, it would also make it really powerful and unwieldy. That's perfect for Rust!
Since Rust is already really Mad-Max style I figure it would fit nicely into the game. Because of Garry's Ask.fm post about weapon attachments/new weapons, I figured it would be best to make a bow that has attachment points.
I sketched this out this afternoon, I have begun modeling it. I don't want to show any progress on that until I get past the "make each part with perfect UVWs" stage.
good job ;) maby use one of those 3D engines and try to mae it into a 3D modeled one. Would be amazing to see that.
Nice work but did you see the official concept art of the bow tiers?
I know trello is dead since a couple weeks but check it out:

Part of the reason I made this sketch was cause I wasnt a huge fan of their options. That being said, I did borrow some concepts, like the improvised counterweights and use of limb reinforcement.
I feel like the thread title set an artificially high expectation that was not met by reading it.

I blame my better half for that! It was bed time when I posted.

Two bits of art I scrounged up,
This was supposed to be part of a long post about my idea for a skill and crafting system to replace blueprints and balance game play, back in early legacy days. Then FP made the change to the current engine.
With talk of a skill system I think its still a bit relevant. I think I may have posted this image before on another account.
I don't even know what the username was, possibly something stupid because I had no idea the game would end up where it is.

Spinning Wheel Concept.
I did this the day hemp was added. I thought it was kind of shitty that the pop up says "hemp fiber" when you get completed cloth from it. I noticed no concept art for looms or spinning wheels.
Talk of electricity was also around at the time, as to simplify the modeling process and client side impact I decided against a large amount of moving parts. I haven't modeled this one yet as my GPU took a big ol' dumperino while working on a commissioned model.
Ignore the icky perspective on the front fork... :V
