So... today I decided to buy a key and start playing it so... this is what happened. When I first spawned I got into a forest-like area, where I ran around aimlessly trying to find... something besides trees and random houses, after a while I starved to death... After respawning I found myself in a kinda deserted area, had some tress near a couple of mountains, here I found a little abandoned house without a door, so I decided to make it mine :) got enough wood with my rock to get the door done, placed the door and had a nice little house, went out again to get more wood, suddenly, night, dark as hell, couldn't see anything, got lost, starved to death~ Third time I decided hey, I will get to that big mountain and scout the map... so I did... well as you might think yeah I found nothing but a little road far away and then starved... Next 20~ish times I died because of wild animals like bears and white wolves, and by getting spawn camped by naked guys with rocks or naked ones with guns... etc, etc, etc sometimes they weren't naked but still... After feeling so stressed and tired and thinking "enough I quit" I found myself respawning near a radiation zone with lots of trees, I was finally able to make, thanks to some random food I found on the floor in a box which kept me alive enough to get enough wood~,a shelter, and a door, so happy~ So I went to the radiated zone lots and lots and lots and lots of times and got quite a lot of good stuff... kinda... first day so I'll say it was pretty good stuff, anyway, I was able to get a pickaxe and ended up getting enough wood to take a near house abandoned, after respawning again and again and again and again and again~ I was able to respawn in the same area several times, after hours of farming I was able to get enough clothes to make a bed! \O/ Never felt so happy before... tl;dr died lots of times to random naked guys with rocks and/or guns, then got a house and a bed, happy day So... IMHO the hardest part of the game atm for newbies is... getting killed several times, by random people, hunger bar depletes so fast you don't get enough time to get enough wood to make a shelter or something, the stress of getting lost a lot and then getting killed to appear somewhere completely different... it's a hard game for new players, indeed... that hunger bar...

Make a hatchet 1st thing. Gathering becomes so much easier.
It's challenging on new players, which is in my opinion a good thing instead of where most games make it easier to start off when you're new. Once you're advanced and have the knowledge to survive and defend, you're going to get past the newly spawned struggle, it does get you ready. I remember your in game name, and I'm fairly certain I know which radiation zone you're referring to, so if I see if you I'll remember to give you some gear to help. Good luck.
cant wait to play excited sounds fun im about to buy a key soon myself :)
my first day back in a while, I walk around and then a naked guy beats me down the end
then a naked guy beats me
all of this makes it much more satisfying when you finally get there :P we were all there once, just quickly get a hatchet, make a wooden shack, get a wooden door on it, get a sleeping bag down in your humble abode (by killing a wolf 20fur)) then go venturing. try get all the log piles you see! about 80-100 in every pile! don't cook at night!
You could play on the PVE server to get the hang of the game before transitioning to the PVP server. There are a few guides out there, and the wiki can be helpful to a point. You'll get there, don't worry and don't get too stressed!
Congrats on pulling through! We know the game is really hard for new players right now, but we haven't had the chance to focus on difficulty/balance recently... the game will eventually be less of a hassle to get started with

My first experience with rust ended with me and Garry destroying a peaceful community that was working together to survive. Good times.
wow, i dont know why i read all of this, but, i did... interesting, why didn'y you just record it though, wouldn't that of been easier?
