Now iceberg base building is back, has anyone had any experience in building on one that minds offering some suggestions? I was thinking of setting up a small base on the coast, swim over and ladder up. How long can I survive before freezing to death? Thanks EDIT Is there any fall damage from jumping into water? I.e. can I just jump off!?
It's hard to jump from iceberg because of their shape. You will most likely hit iceberg and die. And no if you jump into water from any distance and if water is deep enough you won't get any dmg
Swimming out is pretty simple as long as you're wearing enough clothing to stay warm, the water won't bother you too much, maybe take some food to prop up your health along the way, and start with full health. Make sure you take wood, a camp fire, and some ladders with you. When you get to the iceberg ladder yourself up and put your campfire right at the top next to the last ladder. For some reason the ladders disappear if you don't place your campfire nearby. Once you're there light that campfire up and dry yourself, you need to do this every time you swim out there, you will die otherwise. If you jump off the iceberg you will die, it takes all your health straight away so avoid that. The next challenge you're going to face is getting your materials out there to actually build. It might be best to put a sleeping bag on the mainland to get back to when you need to pick up more resources otherwise you'll be doing that long swim back and forth. The iceberg is a really decent place to build and provides a really good defence from would be attackers if you plan it right.
thanks square! thats really helpful! how can you get down (presuming you want to transfer things from the berg to the mainland)? can you walk down ladders these days (never tried) would a diving board provide enough horizontal clearance to jump off?

The really small icebergs you might live, but most of them you'll die instantly. In regards to getting down just climb down carefully, it is possible for sure, but so much room for death as well. Good luck!
Maybe they have changed that in those 2 months...but i was jumping in water from diving boards and i survived...you don't get dmg if you hit the water...you get damaged when you hit an iceberg (at least that was like 2 months ago)

There is a little curvature at the bottom base that will clip you on the way down and could possibly kill you.
