I have been addicted to watching videos since first hearing of RUST and thought a thread having to do with community ideas for the eventual replacement of the zombies would be good. My initial idea was an enemy AI similar to the Wasteland Mod for Arma 2/3 but then started thinking that something totally unique to RUST would be really cool. Werewolves? Vampires? Bigfoot!!!! lol.. Would love to hear what everyone's thoughts are!
Mutants would be cool.
Zombies work well, why change them? I mean, theres nothing really good OR bad about them.
Zombies work well, why change them? I mean, theres nothing really good OR bad about them.
zombies have become generic as fuck
Zombies don't have to be generic, just look at the recent State of Decay, doing zombies in a new creative way can keep them interesting.
Yeah they are generic, but they are also loved, and in my view, completley fine for a game that innovates in some other way.

It can be FUN, but its not very creative. if l4d didn't have special zombies like the tank or spitter, and JUST running zombies, the game would be absolute shit [editline]6th July 2013[/editline]
Yeah they are generic, but they are also loved, and in my view, completley fine for a game that innovates in some other way.
they have become generic though mass overuse.
Why not just have other players as it? I mean there are plenty of KOSers and bandits out there.
Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs
Have you ever checked your own contest thread? :P Or is it just 2 much?
Aliens? or dinosaurs
Mutants, Monsters, Mutated Animal Wildlife, Crazed Marauders, Bloodthirsty Bandits, Robots, Acid Rain.
Angry gnomes!
Drew these fuckers before i realized the art contest was on paper only. Maybe its relevant
ghosts would be cool
Dinosaurs
5 foot tall raptors specifically
mutated dirt covered dinosaurs, animals, and big bugs like bears, raptorex, komodo dragon, alligators, mosquito, coytes, dogs, abelisaurus, achillobator, anyone want to add to the list.
Zombies work well, why change them? The zombies are simply placeholders, nothing more. [editline]6th July 2013[/editline]
ghosts would be cool
*facepalm*
Slenderman would be nice too
The 28 X later "zombies" were good, they were more like rage induced psychopaths. Though i agree, zombies are extremely overdone and generic.
T-virus from Resident Evil :D
If you put dinosaurs on this, velociraptor groups patroling the island, t-rex bosses that drop lots of loot, and such, this will sell more copies than half life 3.
Bears, wolfs, monkeys(or any tree based animal) crocodiles, badgers. make the game a bit about survival and maybe put in like an animal camp. I mean the bears(or any animal) can settle in a cave and in that area there will be bears untill the camp is destroyed. Camps can spawn near player houses and bug the players (or kill off rabbits, deers, pigs etc) a little bit so that they actually team up and take the bears out. if this sounds weird think of Skyrim. didnt you love to fight bears, trolls, giants etc? Having something like that in Rust would be cool. I mean, who would'nt craft crocodile leather boots and hats? This game doesnt really need zombies in my opinion. But zombies is effective to get peoples attention.
let go to detail like as a list to your replacements and what will it drop like food or raw items
mutant animals of course oh thats a bear is that an extra arm oh god its flying
radioactive wizards and mutated aliens

i mean, you could always make creatures that behave like zombies but dont look too much like them, keeping the game sort of original while still having enemies people are used to
rapists,cannibal and ghosts, oh my
