I've been trying to find information on the game for about an hour now, and watched most of the older gameplay videos on youtube. Me and a friend are looking for a game to play, something like Minecraft. Though all the videos on youtube say the game cant be played very long as theres no way to find food, so you eventually just die no matter what, and randomly respawn. Is this something we can buy and start playing, and actually get somewhere? Or should we wait? Really love the idea of the game.

You progress by getting a sleeping bag and building a house, researching items, and then building yourself a massive tower fortress that you can use to rain terror down on the valley below with your M4 with holo sight attachment.
There are animals almost everywhere in the game, and upon killing set animals you get food, which you can cook and eat to stay alive.
Also you find different blueprints which can be learned and crafted at your workbench same goes for metal building parts which can be found in zombies and airdrops I belive, use research kit on set parts and your character will be able to craft them.
So there's lots more to do then all the gameplay previews on YouTube suggests I take it. Someone should release a new gameplay demo.
Starving to death is the last thing you need to worry about. Once you're past day 1 you should be alright for food.
After a little experience in the game starvation will be a very uncommon death!

I bought it last week an I am already addicted to it... great game! Think about that it's an alpha... but anyway... great game!
OK. I'll spot you a real answer.
If you like minecraft then RUST will work for you. It is completely playable at the momentand the game is more advanced than what you've been reading/watching but there is a limitation in respect that what you can actually do once you've done it. There isn't much depth but its coming. There have been plenty of updates in recent times and you know something big is around the corner
Having said that though, it is still tons of fun and PVP (providing you're on a PVP server) is a big part of the game. Don't expect someone to be kind. Expect them to pretend to be your friends... find where you live... then kill you and take all your stuff :) There are friendly ppl out there though :)
Those who can't find animals(aKa food) are just bad. It's easy to survive(To find food,timber,rocks etc) but it's quite challenging vs other players since they are the big threat. With a friend it's more easier,since you can do some big ass tactics , even versus 6 guys.
Just don't get depressed when you'll be killed non stop as a new comer. It's hardcore out there,ya know.
