• Crafting system... Enough is enough

Crafting times need a serious look... I'm going to assume the crafting times are there to delay bulk c4 getting thrown around the server willy va nilly but I feel there needs to be a better solution in place. if my team wants to make C4 or bulk bullets we make Gun powder while we go for a shower or eat food. its been in this state for far to long easily 6 months? if not 8+. There is to much of the players time being wasted staying in their base crafting. People have suggested a Crafting table - Id Like to suggest Scientists NPC's that can be Captured, making them the only way to make C4 or Sentry guns BUT also providing crafting for any needs that the player desires. I'm sure you've got wonderful ideas that you'll get around to in your desgin but for the moment id like either Crafting times significantly reduced or a Solution to the current black void that is the current Crafting System while you put everything together. 'if you dont like crafting go to a modded server' = I dont like gathering x5 x10 x20 and insta craft - I'm arguing that 'end' game crafting confines the player to afk craft instead of playing the game. I've considered buying a second copy just so I can afk craft and still play the game. Love the game, love the idea, love the direction Rust is going, BUT I just currently think the crafting system is unfairly and unnecessarily wasting players time. I didnt just want to bitch and moan but I think that is all I've really done sorry.
I've also suggested capturing prisoners for crafting purposes, it would be awesome if we could capture human players but I can't see that being realistic. With the handcuffed animation made a few months ago and the new prison cell door frames, maybe this is the way things are going!?
More whining from people who can't craft fast enough so that they can blow up everything other people have spent ages building.

I think capturing human players should be a limited thing or the choice of the player, For example your a slave until you starve yourself to death. But I think in all honesty after the first time of experiencing it id just log out if it ever happened again. might add to a solo players game play though. npcs for crafting purposes would be great and make more sense as well as adding another 'tier' to blueprints. 10 seconds for gunpowder is far to long considering the quantity required forcing raiders to boring game play or afking for hours. [editline]27th January 2016[/editline]
More whining from people who can't craft fast enough so that they can blow up everything other people have spent ages building.
I think minor changes are indeed required for the moment. If you read what I said I'm merely suggesting that it be 'more' fun OR the burden be shifted to a NPC so the player can in fact play the game not afk in their base. If it has to be done by the player then yes it should be faster.
Yes I remember that cage! Just a concept by Megan tho! I love building trap houses, but lets be honest, who is going to play the slave role for longer than 5 mins after the novelty wears off!
More whining from people who can't craft fast enough so that they can blow up everything other people have spent ages building.
Again, you come into a thread about crafting times and instantly make the assumption that people who would like to see it changed just want to 'so they can make 10000 C4 in 5 minutes and blow everything up' while missing the point entirely. It's less about the crafting time and more about the fact that it is a mechanic that encourages people to go AFK for hours at a time or leave their game on overnight crafting. Many groups even have secondary crafting accounts dedicated to sitting in the base crafting all day. Nobody is saying they want GP crafting time cut down to 10% of what it is, just to think of a different way to do it that means people can enjoy the game more, even if it took longer to craft overall. I wouldn't like an automated crafting thing that you can just put all your mats in and leave it all night, but it would be interesting if there was something that say created GP or any other item you could make from raw mats (Or maybe it had to be fed a BP to 'learn' it), but it could only hold enough for maybe 5-10 minutes worth of crafting at a time or specific amounts of output item. At least that way players could pop back to their base and stick it on, but it would stop if they were out a long time or logged off.

Fuel generated Mixer for gun powder? would need some balancing for sure fuel consumed to output.
I am not a big fan of anything automated in this game, and should be allowed to have this opinion. If you want the stuff, do the work. I personally think crafting times of most of the more advanced stuff are way too short already, and I also think automated crafting is a big NO. Items that do not require a blueprint should be quick to make like they are today, advanced items should take a lot longer. Maybe days. This would make a more balanced game and a game with a certain story in it, unlike now where every group has a huge castle and bolts enough to waste within the first 12 hours after a wipe. That is my opinion and my solution to people leaving their game on etc would be a "kick" after being idle for 15-20 minutes. Or having a production limit each game day. If you disagree, fine.
People work all day. Normally everything your saying i almost normally agree woth however its a fps riddled with hackers + a thriving hacking community i no i would 100% stop playing if i spent 4 days crafting and a hacker took it in seconds. Work is for during the work week. Games are to escape and have fun. With servers wiping every 2 weeks i agree a long term strategy needs to be put in place but afk crafting is not work which is the current problem making mini games or solutions to enjoy the crafting process is needed... Sorry im on my phone this is gonna be a messy read
3 things. i think idle players should be kicked. i think craft times seriously need to be nerfed, mostly in regards to primitive gear; consider how legacy worked. i also think certain gear should be uncraftable.
Kicking if idle + current crafting times = more castle campers with bolties. This comment is for Lards. Newer gear shall bring that uncraftable teir i believe
Castle campers with bolts are fine. Staying inside with your gun makes perfect sense in a world like Rust. I never do it, but that's because I think it's boring. This quote "Work is for during the work week. Games are to escape and have fun." I agree completely. And I have a lot more fun in Rust when items like explosives and automatic guns are hard to come by then when they aren't. Because I don't treat Rust as my second job like so many clan players do, where the goal is just to amass as much as possible. My approach comes from "the less modern weapons the better". Rust has the funniest combats, but that's with spears, bows and knifes. It was cool in legacy when just a few guys had guns, but now everyone has them. And if they lose them, it's two minutes and they have a new one. No fun. This problem could be solved in many ways, but certainly not by making it easier and faster to craft even more guns (and explosives).
Because IT IS boring BUT Forced onto the player. Again not arguing Speed - just the method of achieving said guns.
It is not forced onto the player! Just if all you want to do is large scale raiding.
Crafting is infact forced on to the player. Im suggesting that a new 'way' be created to craft because watching a timer is not fair. Your not working for it your standing still waiting because youve done the work to get the resources. You can sit there with your sticks and rocks all you want but people like to progress through a game. Its not an argument of how fast players progress through the game its an argument of making the progression fun... however long it takes
Rust has been around for over 2 years now with the crafting system basically the same the whole time. Infact most items use to take even longer to craft then they do now ie hatchets, spears ect. I think the crafting rates are absolutely fine the way they are. I've never been bored playing rust even while waiting for items to craft, if you find it boring or not fun go play a different game and get over it. The thought of a magical bench made of wood or metal that magically crafts all your items for you while you're no where to be seen is the stupidest idea I've ever heard. I can't believe your actually suggesting this, the game is by no means going for realism but this is the kind of unrealistically stupid thing that would drive me away from the game. Maybe if you stand at a crafting bench it gives you a crafting speed boost, that would make sense. But this magical self crafting bench is a joke.
The problem with craft times of huge stackables is that it involves literally zero player input. Click, click, wait 2 hours. Some sort of mini game that allows us to craft this stuff faster would be cool. If I want to win at a game by being afk I'll download Clicker Heroes or Eve Online again.

On non-BP-wipe servers ppl will just rush aks and bolts instead of any lower tier guns. on wiped servers the p250 is so hard to come by that its just some thompson gameplay and then everyone is back to ak+bolt anyway. Also new bolt is riddiculous compared to the old, while p250 (imo) is nothing compared to its legacy counterpart.

Mini Games are a great way to do something while you wait

It's small groups and solo players who want the craft time to stay an afk grind, but they don't understand that afk crafting helps the bigger groups even more. There is always that 'one guy' who can't quite play but will leave his Rust on while crafting an insane ammount of explosives or gunpowder... Solo players and smaller groups don't readily have this option available as much. Big groups can also 'panic craft'.(This is where you split everything craftable between your group because you planned your raid to start 20 minutes ago). As long as it stays like :*click* *click* *wait 3 hours* ...then nobody wins.

You can do whatever you want for those two hours in the game, you just risk death. And two hours worth of gunpowder? Are you serious? Go play on a modded server and make your 100+ rockets and c4 there. And the suggestion of a mini game to speed up crafting is probably the stupidest I have ever heard. You have your "mini game" right there all the time, it's called Rust and you can run around and explore, fight and build while you craft.
Crafting is infact forced on to the player.
Again, no. Crafting for a few minutes is forced on to the player to make tools and weapons. Crafting in the scale you are talking about is not forced at all. No player needs 10000 gunpowder to play this game. You are making Rust boring, not Rust. Dare to do something else than sit in your grand castle and make gunpowder and you might stop whining about this.
Larsd either cant comprehend the argument or is trolling quite poorly. or believes his niche way to play rust is the only valid way. one small section was suggested about speed but most of it is just mini games to do something while you wait. Time is only an issue if there is nothing to do. But this is the last post cause your just a pest have fun bruh
do something else than sit in your grand castle and make gunpowder and you might stop whining about this.
I grind and pickaxe raid like fuck.... that's why I have so much goddamn sulphur lmao! I play mostly in a group of 3, we have more guys that get on for planned raids and stuff, but it's just a few of us that actually mine and keep the quarries going. I play on a vanilla server and it's so fucking easy to amass a huge ammount of sulphur that ultimately needs crafting. Roaming the map and fucking people up that are mining also yields a huge ammount. I seriously do not understand how people don't have sulphur that needs crafting. Mining 10k of stone yields like 1.5k sulphur roughly, so just building a viable base leaves you with a shit ton of sulphur that needs processing. It gets to the point where I start raiding and trading just for charcoal. Sulphur is just a bi-product of putting some effort into your base, you should try it sometime.
The way the crafting system currently is, feels like stat padding more than anything. It forces people to "play" the game AFK. Of course this only makes the game look better because many people have hours of "play time" by just standing still inside a vault crafting menial items. Why is there not for example an item bench where you could simply queue up a list of items to be crafted and then turn the game off, come back to a box full of stuff. It still takes the same amount of time to craft or whatever but the game doesn't need to be on. In real life, many of these things are produced with automation anyways. Food for example. I don't literally have to stand in front of the stove while I cook food, I put it in, I turn on a timer and walk away. Weapon production is automated, most likely even things like gunpowder production would be somewhat automated. Why are we forced to stand there watching items be crafted? It really makes no sense to me other than padding the stats to force people into spending more hours in game doing shit that isn't even actual game play. You may want to argue that this would somehow give someone some sort of upper hand. But that's bullshit, because you don't think there's people out there with 5 Rust accounts constantly mass AFK crafting? There's already loopholes in the system that are being exploited / abused. Why punish the solo / casual / honest players. That's what it feels like more than anything. Hell, even make it like the tool cupboard so you can only have one "crafting bench" in a certain radius so that people can't have a room full of them.
Just use speed hacks make the gathering process compensate for the crafting time? That's what most people do.

You have no idea if they plan on changing it in the future so your entire post is just you making up bullshit. And no mini games would not be a great way to do something while waiting. That actually sounds pretty lame to me. The crafting is fine the way it is, you should have to wait a certain amount of time for your items to craft. A lot of crying over craft times. Maybe rust is not the game for you. COD ?
am I developer no? Do I keep up with rust information? Yes do I know what an alpha is? yes if you think rust is going to stay the way it is you're a big dummy

Did I ever, in anyway at all say the game is going to stay the way it is? No I didn't you imbessle. Yes alpha means things WILL change, but it doesn't mean EVERYTHING will change. And crafting is one thing the developers have never said anything about changing, SO FAR. You don't know if they plan on changing it, but if they do, I really hope it's not in the stupid ways you have suggested in this thread. You're not the only one that follows the development m8. I've been following the development as closely as I possibly can for well over a year now. Oh and "big dummy"? how old are?, seriously grow up kid. Run along and leave the discussion to the grown ups.
