Because I am an avid movie and image editor, the first thing I said when I bought Rust was "Damn, that logo is ugly."
So, I decided to take it into my own hands to make two versions that I think are better.

It's okay if you don't notice. I'm a computer clean-freak, and the spaces between all the boxes were different sizes and really ugly to me, most people wouldn't notice.

The thing is, if you made minor adjustments that are hardly noticeable, what is really the point? Besides, you never see the logo in-game...
Personally I think the logo could do with a complete redo. But obviously that'd hurt the brand a bit since it'd be unrecognisable... Perhaps move one of those 3 points to make it more even, I feel sorry for those with OCD...
Yeah, that was the problem. You may not be able to notice but the square in the middle on the original logo actually is NOT in the middle. It hurts my brain and makes me go crazy.
The after looks worse to me.

I am working on a more gritty, completely different Rust logo.
Honestly all I did was rotate the logo by -135° and it still looks better than your "improved" logo.

Thats what I read from your post.
I think the first logo isnt choppy and sharp enough. Making the colors more vivid and the borders blurred sort of destroys the whole "edgy, weirdy" look I enjoy with it.
The second one is a decent enough idea, but I would like to see something more corroded, and more importantly, MADE BY THE AWESOME CONCEPT GUYS WORKING ON THE ACTUAL PROJECT.
