• Is RUST anti cheat a hoax? What is being done?

Every day on every server there is hackers. I just lost hours if game play to someone who was hacking. Is this being taken seriously? Does face punch even care? Each ban they make 20 bucks. So why not do the bare minimum. People who support the game buy it once. Hackers 2 3 4. Christ this one guy said he was on 8 times buyin. People loose hours of game play for nothing. And are laughed at by these cheating people. My question to Gary and the rest of the supporting face punch staff . Is what's being done about this? Is there anything in the near future? I understand about being in alpha. But a more solid anti cheat is needed. Or more consistent. Admins anything. Hire some frequent players to ban people and be a admin. I hope this is not a alpha only game. But I hope I speak for all when I say we deserve a answer. Hell I would even volunteer as a admin for official servers
I feel a lot of this lack of ability to mange the official servers is about your perspective. The facepunch team was not staffed to handle the growth. Just give them some time. Maybe you should check out some private servers with active, and responsible admins. Official servers are more affected by the beta because they are not managed adequately due to the rapid growth of this game.

Backtracking their PayPal account? Freeze their bank account? Please don't start with something like IP-blocking, because many people get dynamical IPs from their ISP. Thousands of players have been detected and banned so what exactly is your point?
They are working on an anti-cheat but it's not something that can be completed within a couple of weeks. Just need a lot of patience, if it winds you up that much, don't play until everything is stable and not in Alpha?
There are servers that do not allow level 1 Steam accounts, that helps. And there are also servers with very active admins. It just sounds like you have not found the right server yet. Also, the game is alpha. Be patient, or wait a while until game has better fixes for these issues. There are plenty of people who are not experiencing constant problems with hackers.
instead of IP banning, MAC address ban
MAC bans are useless since it's child's play to change them.
You said...
Does face punch even care? Each ban they make 20 bucks. So why not do the bare minimum.
and also...
Christ this one guy said he was on 8 times buyin.
So which is, does Facepunch not care and is doing nothing? Or are they banning accounts and forcing hackers to constantly make new steam accounts and wasting money to continue their efforts? Garry's got another anti-cheat system in the works that will likely be more effective. In the mean time your best bet is to either run your own server or find one with active (but not abusive) admin. Abusive admins are just as bad as hackers but aren't ever going to be banned.
MAC bans are useless since it's child's play to change them.
There's really nothing one can do about re-buying the game. But most of the players shouldn't be able to cheat and re-buy multiple times. The minority who has the money will always be able to. Economically it should still result in a nearly cheat-free game, because the cheat developers also live from the request of their cheats and if the cheater amount lessens, the developers will decrease also. Nobody can really blame Facepunch, what they've done so far resulted in thousands of bans. It's like with the antivirus programs, they exist since the late 1980s and viruses still exist. Microsoft also patches every exploit that occurs and Windows is still being hacked. Admins can ban players if they're accused of cheating but it's hard to detect cheaters as there are many players who simply are too bad and claim every better player a cheater. As for flyhacks and speedhacks every player can record them and report the evidence to the admins but aimbotting can not be detected by a player.
instead of IP banning, MAC address ban
MAC addresses are non transferrable over broadcast domains. Which means that your own PC's MAC address is not known at your ISP. Only your WAN IP address and MAC address from your router. The MAC address of your router is also not visible for a gameserver as it is a totally different broadcast domain. So the only option to ban is your WAN IP address, which is usually dynamic. Long story short, you cannot ban someone permanently. Only a VAC ban, but you can circumvent that with a new steam account...
