is it possible to rent/buy a server?

at the title states, I am curious as to if it is still possible to rent/buy a server and what the requirements/cost are.

All kinds of hosts here to rent from. Cant buy one per say, but you can rent from official hosters.

ok I found that thread, but I am still confused. is it possible to rent a server? if so, how do i get one?
