Terrorist have DDoS'd public servers and under FacePunch policy, there is no negotiating with terrorists. So RIP servers.
Are all servers down now?
I don't care, they can ddos all day only kids cry when they can't get to play the game. http://www.complex.com/video-games/2013/10/gtav-angry-kid-flips-out-grand-theft-auto-v
lol what do they want?
Supposedly, the people who are doing the DDoS'ing are holding the servers "hostage" until the devs make a post or acknowledge what they are going to do about the hacking, which is extremely ironic IMO.
Supposedly, the people who are doing the DDoS'ing are holding the servers "hostage" until the devs make a post or acknowledge what they are going to do about the hacking, which is extremely ironic IMO.
Yeah, they're doing it to "gain the attention" of the developers to resolve the hacking situation, which I agree is getting way out of hand but this is a somewhat very bad way to go about it.
I'm actually all for it, not like we can really play the game anyway. If this is true, +1 for ddosers, since the community has already given the devs a chance with their voice. All the mods did in response were change someones thread title immaturely saying its not priority. I mean, shit. I don't even have to explain that one.
I bought the game earlier today and haven't been able to play yet. Kinda not a good thing that the DDoS is happening.
Yes, but.. You (most likely) wouldn't be playing it after getting fed up with the script kiddie non-sense going on. I will admit, I'm at work this weekend so I can't play, and my attitude would probably be different if i was at home trying to play. But still... I'd like to see something done before the game gets ruined with the hype expiring.
. . .can't get to play the game.
It's not a game, but an experiment.

Does no one realize how childish this is? There are two things I truly do not understand in this situation, 1) How can the developers open a game to practically "public" alpha and not listen to the criticism of the very people they allow to play it, and 2) why in the hell is something like hacking not being addressed and as a result actually promoted? Here is where I stand personally. Rust has huge potential to be totally awesome, hell it already is totally awesome. It just seems like Garry or the main developers as a team are being very childish with the way they are addressing the issues we the alpha testers are bringing them. What it really comes down to is this. If the hacking situation isn't fixed or at least addressed then I wont play or support the game in any fashion. If holding the game "hostage" or being a "terrorist" is what is necessary to show the developers that we need this fixed then so be it. In the end they have no choice but to listen to us because if they don't we wont play and they wont have a business. I just hope its worth it to them, otherwise I wasted $25+ on a game that had a huge amount of potential to be something really great. As a side note I feel that the fact they are now branding people as "terrorists" is really silly. From any point of view anyone can be a terrorist. To me the terrorists are the people hacking, to them the people responsible for the ddos. Who is more important here, the customer or the creator? If there is anything I've learned from business its that if you don't give the customer what they want then sooner or later you wont have any customers at all and at that point none of this even matters and i'll get to go spend my time and money supporting a game that actually cares about being successful and delivering what its customers are CLEARLY demanding.
why in the hell is something like hacking not being addressed and as a result actually promoted?
My opinion, be it wrong or not, is that it's alpha. They need hackers to be able to fix any loopholes in the software. That might be a wrong assumption, and I'm okay with that because I'm not 100% sure myself.
hell it already is totally awesome.
Yes it is. :)
It just seems like Garry or the main developers as a team are being very childish with the way they are addressing the issues we the alpha testers are bringing them.
I fully agree with this. As a tester all I care about is communication from the devs to the testers. It's a two-way road. Communication is all that matters to me. And it's crucial in an alpha too. You can't really call it an alpha test if the testers have no clue what is being worked on, what is going to be changed, etc. The fact that nobody has said a thing about the (not going to call them hackers, because they're definitely not even close to hackers - the people who make the program these people are using may be eligible to be called hackers) people who are using an unfair advantage to ruin the alpha of legitimate testers is what bugs me.
What it really comes down to is this. If the hacking situation isn't fixed or at least addressed then I wont play or support the game in any fashion.
Perhaps try supporting it more. Maybe if a fire is lit under their asses or if a twinky is dangled in front of them they'll want to put more effort in to the community and, in turn, the game (which, yes, is totally f*cking awesome and I am so addicted to it).
If holding the game "hostage" or being a "terrorist" is what is necessary to show the developers that we need this fixed then so be it. I'm sure the developers play the game (I'd be worried if they didn't) and are aware of it. The only reason I can think of them not telling us what their plans are to fix the exploiting is because they'll want to get the jump on it before the hacking program's developer can get a fix around that fix. If that makes sense. The developers, however, can at least acknowledge that they're aware of it. "We're aware of it guys, thanks for all the feedback" would be a great response.
As a side note I feel that the fact they are now branding people as "terrorists" is really silly. From any point of view anyone can be a terrorist. To me the terrorists are the people hacking, to them the people responsible for the ddos.
I don't think it's silly. It's understandable if you sit in the developers' chairs for a minute. The hackers aren't completely ruining the game play for people. They're a nuisance, but they're not detrimental to your negative experiences while playing Rust. Remember it's an alpha, so you're not actually testing game play, but more the core mechanics of the game itself and providing feedback about the game. Two wrongs do not make a right though. The DDoSing isn't helping the cause at all. I'm surprised that people have resorted to DDoSing the game servers as a result of the exploiting. I think the people DDoSing the servers don't realize that this is still just an early alpha of the game. There is going to be exploits and bugs in the coding and software. Time will fill those holes.
Who is more important here, the customer or the creator?
At the moment, the creator. Hear me out. We didn't purchase access to a full game just yet. We purchased access to the full game when it comes out and as a result of that we were given access to the alpha test. It's more of a privilege to be a part of the alpha than a right. We didn't pay for a product, we paid for the development of the game (I'm exhausted so I may have worded that wrong, I'm sorry).
If there is anything I've learned from business its that if you don't give the customer what they want then sooner or later you wont have any customers at all and at that point none of this even matters and i'll get to go spend my time and money supporting a game that actually cares about being successful and delivering what its customers are CLEARLY demanding.
This sounds more like a plea than it sounds like constructive criticism. You don't demand things in business. You provide clear and constructive suggestions as to how the business can expand and just be better for the customer. Threatening the company isn't going to make them improve. Also, we're not customers, we're supporters for the game we paid for.

The DDoS'ing is excessive and immature, honestly. It's probably not going to be any more effective in changing the alpha than anything else. That said, the devs could have avoided anything like this by just being more open to communicating with all of us. From what I've heard from friends and people who aren't hacking/trolling/etc., there's a lot of great constructive criticism around the playerbase.

This isn't that thread.
