Just started playing Rust today. This is actually a very fun game!
Surprisingly, for me the biggest threat really wasn't other players. The first time I died, yeah it was another player (asked me if I wanted to team up shortly before killing me, go figure). The next 3 times were all of starvation.
I had fun running around scrambling to assemble some supplies together. At one point even managed to get a hut and fire together in the middle of a fairly empty section of map before I died of hunger.
One of my respawns actually managed to place me very close to some animals. Woot! I managed to get plenty of raw chicken (from wolves, no less) and some raw metal and sulfur was nearby too.
Finally managed to set me up a camp. It's a piece of crap wood hut, but hey, at least it's something. I'll have to expand it later. At least I've got a respawn point now. I've also managed to get together enough sulfur and metal fragments to make a 9mm and a few bullets. At that point the server crashed, so I'm waiting for it to boot back up.
Surprisingly, there are lots of buildings but very few players in my neck of the woods. That's good for me - fewer people to screw me over.
I like the feel of this game. It's kind of like Fallout, in terms of the post apocalyptic feel, mixed with DayZ, with elements of Minecraft borrowed. I like the latter elements especially, there's a sense of trying to build up your resources (you get a similar feel in many RTS games, as you try to amass resources and research technologies to expand your empire, and I really like that).
All in all, replace some of the placeholder models, fix the bugs, and slap a big, phat "FUN" stamp on this game. I like it.
As soon as a 'town' of people move in you're probably going to think about peeling the "FUN" sticker back off again.
Nothings more interesting than a town full of snipers out to get one another, granted, though I wouldn't exactly call it a fun experience all the same. Its akin to 'The Purge' but everyone sits at home and eyes one another over through the windows.
Gawd' also have mercy if griefers find your home and you have logged off the game inside it.
I suppose these are rants though.
When trying to find resources in main areas, or even get out of there alive to try and find a good spot, it is hard to start up while avoiding the inevitable deaths. Good job to you sir for doing just that AND setting up a respawn point.
bandit here, i can confirm that as soon as i find your shack with a fire i shall visit and fun stickers will not be involved.
How did you.....nevermind, im tired of asking this for the last past 3months :(
Good luck and have fun ingame.
You know... I don't mind if my home is esploded and my respawn wiped. It was a piece of crap pile of wood, akin to your first mud hut in Minecraft.
I've also played plenty of Minecraft with friends, and let me tell you, when you play Minecraft with my kind of friends, your spawn point and/or house goes... mysteriously missing, at an alarming rate.
It's all part of the fun though. Especially in Rust, which is specifically designed as a survival of the fittest game.
how did you get playing the game yesterday ? let me guess you payed for a key ?

I didn't pay off anyone or anything like that. I'm not telling you how I got it. Don't want anybody pestering me for keys I don't have, I think you understand?
yes defiantly especially I have tried to get one when I have 3 accounts on twitter 1 with over 200k followers and 2 over 5k followers but under 10k ive tried haha

definitely*
I barely ever find animals, but finally when I did, I wanted to live my life as an happy man, but then a guy comes and kills me.
Yeah, that's the thing that immediately strikes me - they really need to add more animals to the game. Being so important to survival, and given how quickly you starve, they need to be far more abundant than they currently are. Perhaps a faster spawn rate?

A few animals were added, they give quite the reward for the risk. And the animals re spawn if you just move away from the area.
Yeah, I've found wolves are quite abundant in resources. That was my first kill (good thing I had a medkit on me, otherwise I might have bled to death), and pretty much set me for days in terms of food, plus rewarded me with plenty of cloth.
I'd like to know how often they respawn though - many areas seemed completely barren in terms of wildlife.
You can also get food from killing zombies, you get cans, also from looting factories, animals respawn as resources, doesn't matter if there are players around or not, its just about 3min respawns. I'd say get some metal rocks, make a gun and defend your base
Great :)
