• Just bought RUST... disappointed

I have seen a numerous amount of people with this similar issue but all of the posted solutions haven't been a success for me. The error message I am receiving will not permit the game to start up: "Unable to load mono library from "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/rust/rust_Data/Mono/mono.dll" (error = 487)." Also, I don't have a /Mono folder within the /rust_Data folder, let alone the .dll. This is my first time posting in a forum although I have sifted through prior threads for solutions, now I find myself seeking a solution as well. Hopefully someone can help, not just me but any others as well, thanks. *Note: I have verified integrity of game cache, reinstalled, downloaded vcredist_x64.exe, and read countless threads, and I am still failing.

After some digging around, I installed the x64 Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package from here and this resolved it.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/confirmation.aspx?id=14632
Thanks for the quick responses. I am running Sophos protection and I couldn't find anything in the logs denying access. This could be the issue and I will disable it and try to run Rust once again. (Even though I am a bit shaky due to the 'Heartbleed bug' epidemic resurfacing, haven't heard? Google it) Nonetheless, I will give it a go. [editline]9th April 2014[/editline] [QUOTE=Sgt. Thanks
Well, there's your problem.
Maybe, but why isn't it present if I just purchased the game and installed it? Makes no sense to me. Pondering why this crucial file wasn't included and how I can obtain it...
I had this problem, its your anti-virus.

Sophos will not do anything to protect you, because your machine is not the target of the attack nor the vulnerable system in the Heartbleed scenario. Heartbleed attacks a server that uses OpenSSL that hasn't been patched to protect against it. Sophos doesn't have anything at all to do with this, but it could be removing files it doesn't like out of your Rust folder. Being a little paranoid about security is fine, but make sure you educate yourself on the actual nature of the security problems you're scared of. If the only thing you've done to try and protect yourself against Heartbleed is relied on Sophos, you haven't done anything at all to make yourself safe.
