Uh
Do you realize that they've banned over 6,000 cheaters since the start of the year? Do you realize that garry deployed a brand new anticheat system a bit over a week ago that has caught over 5,000 cheaters with screenshot proof included that garry can review himself instead of having to refer people to Steam Support to contest VAC bans?
The devs have better things to do with their time than babysit the official servers. For every minute a dev babysits an official server because you can't handle hackers in an alpha game, that's one minute of wasted developer time.
The game is in alpha. You should expect to lose absolutely everything at any moment, because the next patch could require a complete server wipe on all servers everywhere, and you will have no warning and no choice in the matter.
The fact that a hacker is the one wrecking things and not a wipe is completely irrelevant.
The game isn't "destroyed", it's only 10% done. How can you destroy something that's barely started? That's laughable and you need to rethink what it means to be playing Rust during the alpha phase of development.

I really think that Gary and Facepunch are trying, but they never expected the game to get this much attention, especially from the hackers. The game has way too much data that's client side, so it's just low-hanging fruit for the hackers. It's terrible that such a game with so much potential is getting ruined by hackers. It's turning a lot of people off, even if it's in alpha.
I'm starting to think they don't care what we think/tell them, they have made a lot of money now so they will do what they want.

Wrong. It's actually quite relevant. We know we signed-up for random server wipes, but by the development team, not random hackers with God complexes.

You signed up for an alpha, with the final game when it is done.
If you expected a hacker-free experience, I don't even know what to say to you.
The big problem they are going to have is they released this as an early access game.
I get that it's an alpha, but the bulk of people who are going to buy it already have and a lot of them are trying to actually play the game. If you can't enjoy the game due to hackers and children running around replacing your doors, etc., then it's going to be hard to recover.
The alpha stage should have been released to a test group instead of every random 12 year old with a entitlement complex.

If you didn't want this, why did you buy a game in Early Access?

I have no sympathy for you if you couldn't understand that and paid money anyway.

Well, see, it was a closed alpha, and it was quiet and small. And then Reddit heard about it and it blew up.
You're brand new here, but last summer, the forum was essentially under attack by idiot kids begging for Rust keys everywhere they could find a New Thread button.
Some guy posted a picture for the drawing contest (which had already been over for two weeks) in the Fitness subforum. We don't even know how he got that confused.
Even with the supply of keys cut off (because the only servers were official servers and their capacity was limited), the flood of key beggars did not slow down and only got worse, so garry relented to the demand and opened up key sales in a Dutch auction, which allowed him to limit the number of keys per day, but make them available to whoever wanted to pay badly enough. A big push during the fall was to get Rust off the terrible Unity webplayer and onto Steam as a standalone client. Once this was done and working well enough, they were able to launch on Steam.
And the demand on Steam blew them away; garry was not expecting to sell a million copies of Rust in under three months.
