TL;DR: Rather than add things to make players stronger, make the environment harder to survive in. OK so lately the overall population of people has spiraled downwards, and i believe it is because so much stuff was added to make pvp easier for large groups. The charges, destructible walls, etc.. But this thread isnt about those things. I feel like rather than constantly adding things to the game to make players stronger the game should shift its focus to making the environment more dangerous. In a survival game, your "Main" threat should never be the other players, and this is where i feel games like DayZ and ISS fell short. The main threat in a survival game should be the creatures around you and the overall environment. That is what survival is, trying to survive in a rough environment. If the game starts to feel to easy (even playing solo) and people feel like their main threat is other people, then all you have is Call of Duty, Battle Field, Medal of Honor, with zombies or w/e running around in the background. It literally becomes a team death match where the people that are unlucky and dont have a team get stomped out. Recently wolfs were added (i think bears too but havent seen one yet) and i feel like this was a good step forward for the progression of the game, even though its not really anything ground breaking. This is a good start though, if the game can get more creatures or mutants or whatever is supposed to be in the game to replace zombies, then playing in the hostile environment will be more tedious and hard. This might cause more people to start grouping up in certain situations, and turn this game from a Shoot on Sight game to a "hmmm i can take the shot but there might be some *insert dangerous thing here* a little ways through the forest, do i kill him and risk fighting these things alone or let him live and try to get through this together".This will not take anything away from people who KOS, because it is a good strategy, but it will make the people who have been poisened into thinking KOS is the only way to survive, see that they can finally team up with people. For alot of people who are friendly they generally do not want to confront people, and currently the game makes being friendly almost impossible. The game doesnt want to punish bandits, and it shouldnt punish bandits. However because there in nothing in place for friendlys, the game is punishing anyone who trys to play friendly. The way the game is now it pretty much tells you trying to be friendly is wrong, and a waste of time because your never gonna get through any situation, if you see someone most likely they will kill you anyways. I kinda fell off on my thinking train so imma end it here till i can remember more of what i was trying to say. Any input and criticisms would be very much appreciated.
It probably will get more considering the state it is in currently, as well as some more materials
i wanst saying the Rust Team hasnt thought of these things, im pretty sure they have thought over this situation a bit, and the team will add alot more in the future when they are ready. I was just trying to bring this to the attention of the testers/players, and maybe the dev team if they havent givein it any thought. Its mostly theory though and the practice might be hard to execute any time soon.
zombies are stupid, animals are "smarter" yet people will always be the smartest, therefore the most dangerous of them all yes, it is a lot easier for bigger groups to survive and kill other people... that's how it always is. take any movie for an example.... dem heros go against armies and they won't die... sounds sooo "realistic"
