Being able to build underground for more concealed bases but they would be very expensive to create e.g 10 wood planks to create 1 reinforced plank crafting would be normal like 2 reinforced planks to make a reinforced pillar (more of an endgame thing). These bases would also have a higher decay rate and if you didn't repair them the tunnel/base you created would have a cave-in making it so you have to get rid of the stone/dirt to be able to build there again.
Love it.
In the same vein (ha!) I'd love to see tunneling. Imagine creating a few tunnels through Everust Mountain and collecting tolls -- the a rival clan sets up their own tunnels and guerrilla style warfare ensues.
Well, the easiest way to overcome the terrain issues if we really wanted to would be building a deployable that was like an underground entrance. If you pressed 'e' on it and you had a quick fade to black and then appeared on a ladder going down. Internally it would be teleporting you to a little instance under the ground where you could 'dig' to create 'rooms'
Not likely to happen any time soon if ever, though.
Yes, would be awesome.
However, it should be very rare. As everybody having an underground base would get old quickly.
I actually like this idea! It seems really cool and just like others said, it would have to be rare or else it would just be like another base. :quagmire:
Maybe some of the resources or all the resources could be only obtained from airdrops.
While it may likely not happen, I think it would be really AWESOME to have a whole underworld area for mining. I think it would not work if you could tunnel to the surface, but it would be awesome to tunnel on a "separate map," so to speak. Hell, maybe even there can be underground loot as well; rocks, rare spawns, or what have you.
Don't want to feel like I'm playing minecraft though.
What about Dev made mines that have rock walls. Kind of like the trees they don't vanish but you can loot them so much and then can't for a bit. So have mine shafts with Ore deposit rich in Metal/Sulfur possibly pave the way to new metals? And if they do add transportation to this game maybe the mines have the only viable fuel source or atleast the oil tankers on the map would have extra purpose other than land marks. :D
The idea of improving the map with mine shafts and stuff is a good one.
Nice to have more than just trees, rocks, and buildings.
A cellar under the house would be Funny and really FINE
I'm seeing underground buildings (cellars) as something to protect more of you stuff. However I think it would just ad another level of already ridiculous buildings. What I would want is some sort of camouflage instead. Not some elaborate paint job or anything, but for example a couple of branches in front of a low building. So it doesn't stick out as a sore thumb (and a prime target).
You could still easily see the building but you might just miss it when passing through.
Who doesn't want to build the Umbrella Hive under their 1x1 ;-)

Everyone would... And that could be a problem if you could place a door every 1 block... Should such an update ever be made, I would say you shouldn't be able to put doors underground =/
