Rust is about realism, and at times being sneaky as all hell. I'm curious, why can't I go prone? I should be able to army crawl if I want to and pretty much sneak up on someones base without being heard at all. Would also be nice if I could go prone with the upcoming bone knife and one shot things like bears/wolves/players.

Rust is NOT about realism.

From the blog on Friday...
"We want you to go into combat situations will your clips loaded. I am probably alone here.. but I want you to sit in your home, manually dragging bullets into clips."
Then why do that?
prone would be good, I just think you should be able to crouch and sneak without making footstep sounds
That's the problem with saying something is supposed to be realistic.
On the one hand, irradiated wolves and bears and mutant chickens are very far from realism, but that doesn't mean that there can't be some things that are realistic.
Frankly, I would never use prone... but then again I've always been bad at shooters. To me, adding prone is just asking people to lay on the ground and start camping out and sniping people...
Obviously people can already camp and "snipe", but being nearly invisible in the grass just seems like it would take all the fun out of it.
Thatd be nice. They should also make it so you do not have to hold a button down to crouch, like in DayZ. Maybe click CTRL once to crouch, hold it down to go prone, then click it again to stand back up, like Call of Duty.
Going prone may be a future item on the to-do list, who knows.
But at this stage in the game, the devs have more important things to worry about, like getting the foundation systems of the game itself working better. The UI, the new sky/water/grass, new inventory, building ownership and the building system, the weapons system, and the items system including the brand-new item editor, all of these are things that have been added recently or are being worked on right now.
Adding another stance is a fairly low-priority matter compared to the fundamental systems of the game.
Prone is a crutch IMO. But seriously, it wouldn't bother me if it was implemented. You're lying there, being all super sneaky and just when you think you've got a bead on someone...
Bonk! You are Dead.
yea i want prone so bad
I support this if we get to do this as well

Don't give a fuck, not even once.

So in your opinion the game would be worse for adding prone because you're bad at shooting and it would be too difficult for people who are bad to kill skilled players that understand what position does in a fight?

I never said that it would be worse because I'm bad at it. Don't try and twist my words around, please.

so taking the fun out of a game isn't making it worse?
so taking the fun out of a game isn't making it worse?
Are you arguing that you can't have fun in Rust unless you can go prone?

You're trying really hard to nullify my opinion and I'm not sure why.

No I'm saying it would add to it not make it bad like Sivers808

Not sure how reading and responding is really hard. But then again it's coming from someone who thinks prone is bad in an fps survival game.

I disagree, I think prone in FPS shooters is a crutch that eventually has everyone falling back on it since it's too easy to abuse. Every game that has prone in it ends up winding down to players sprinting everywhere and flopping down onto their bellies the second they see a player. Just look at Battlefield games. IMO, it should be crouch only, especially since this game allows players to build their own cover.
Why can't going prone have a disadvantage?
It could take some time before you're lying flat on the ground and are able to aim.
Lying down and having a good aim would take about five seconds. Maybe less if you're good at aiming. I'm not talking about the lying down sequence alone which would take like two to three seconds. But getting your rifle ready and aiming down the sights would take some more seconds. If you're using a bipod it could take even more time.
About 5 seconds where you can't do shit, because you're currently lying down.
its not CoD
For prone to be implemented grass would have to be forced on.
Which would require a grass overhaul, current grass is a massive fps killer on low-end systems.
not sure if i want prone in this game.. then agian I surely want a grass fix - i.e. forcing grass on but having it be less performance hungry like alex said. but its not needed for prone ^^
It would be realistic to prone. Yeeeah, I know. Realism this and realism that...
But as long as our character represents a human being on the earths surface, we should be able to prone.
As long as you can't boing around like a punching-bag clown, I don't see a problem with it. It should take a few seconds to get on your feet, especially if you're carrying gear (maybe even make the speed you stand up dependent on how much weight you're carrying), and you shouldn't be able to aim for a second after you go prone.
It's really pretty silly not to be able to go prone. Are all the player characters 60+ years old and arthritic?

Exactly my point. It's kinda important to prone in firefights.
