In rust, everyone kills eachother for their resources or just for fun or out of fear. In a real life scenario, people will not shoot eachother on sight, like in rust. Lets ask ourselves why. If a nuclear apocalypse happened, and there were zombies everywhere, would you shoot anyone you see on sight like you do in rust? I don't think that you would. Say, you are a real life bandit. YOu still won't shoot unarmed "nudists" on sight would you? You can allways point your gun at them, get their stuff and let them leave. Now lets think why. First of all, and this also applies to the game, you will waste your precious bullets. secondly, there is a moral thing. Even for a bandit, shooting an unarmed person is immoral because you take a life. In the game though, they can just respawn. and thirdly, there is a religious thing. Yes, stealing is a sin, but murder is a much bigger sin. Most of you won't kill people on sight because of the fear of going to hell. Well, in the game you won't go to hell so you can do whatever you want. What if you did? They of course can not implement "hell" to the game. But they can implement an "afterlife punishment" to the game: In a mod called "Project Reality", when you killed unarmed civilians(well they also had ROCKS lol :D), you had a time penalty on your next respawn. Say it takes 10 seconds to respawn right? for each unarmed civilian you kill (or a team kill), 2 minutes are added to that time. So if you kill 2 unarmed men, it takes you 4 minutes and 10 seconds to respawn, next time you are dead. (of course it resets back to 10 secs after u respawn). This can be a great way to stop bandits. [B]TL;DR:[/B] [B]An agressor:[/B] A person who attacks anyone with any sort of weapon. He doesn't have to "hit" his target. Even if he misses, he is still an agressor. It doesn't matter which weapon he uses to do that. [B]A threat:[/B] A person who has a firearm in his hotbar. It doesn't matter if he has ammo for it or hasn't. You are ALLOWED to kill an agressor or a threat. The agressor shouldn't have to be agressing you. IF he tries to shoot/axe murder/"stone" anyone, including you, your friends, or a random stranger near you, you are ALLOWED to kill him in the next 5 minutes. If he shoots back at you, you can kill him anytime you want. You must witness his agression though. You are ALLOWED to [B]SHOOT [/B] ANYONE, unless that shot kills him. (shoot in the leg for example). If you shoot anyone with a ranged weapon outside these rules, you get a [B]RESPAWN PENALTY OF 4 MINUTES FOR EACH DEFENSELESS PERSON YOU KILL[/B]. If your victim respawns and kills you in 5 minutes of your previous murdering of him, you don't get any penalty. YOur penalty status resets after you respawn. For these rules to work: 1. A shot in the leg must cripple the victim. (so bandits can shoot people that run away from them in the leg) 2. When you are aiming with a loaded firearm at a crippled person and are really close to him, you should be able to press the "e" and this opens up his inventory. you should be able to steal his stuff this way. warning, he is still able to hit you with a rock. if he does that, the inventory autmatically closes and you are allowed to shoot him of course. 3. If someone has a weapon in his/her hotbar, if the weapon is a pistol, hand cannon, or similar small thing , he should have a visible gun holster, if the weapon is a rifle, he should have it hanging on his back so we can determine if a person is a threat. there should also be a "small pistol" which is concealed and doesn't show up in your inventory as someone searches you, it should have very limited range, or should lose its power through the distance. 4. To understand if a person is an "agressor"(or to be sure), you should aim at him, if he is not an agressor you should hear your own heart beat. This is required because sometimes these things won't work well. YOu think that a person is an agressor, but he "missed" you SO badly that the game didn't register him as an agressor.If you didn't see or hear him shooting at you, but he still did, you still get the heart beat sound. SO if someone tries to stealth attack you and misses, you shouldn't be able to figure out who did that by exploiting this "noise thing". 5. taking out a weapon out of a normal inventory slot and putting it to your hotbar should take some time. maybee there can be a special animation for that too(two pull out animation, one is long, one is short. short one plays when u allready have it in ur hotbar, long one plays when you didn't). this way people can't carry a weapon in their "backpack" and when you turn your back take it out of it and shoot you with it. Also the gun cocking sound, reload sounds and all gun releated sounds should be hearable by other players too (when you switch to a pistol and your character cocks the gun, you hear that cool sound. but only you hear it. the others should also be able to hear it.) Im an pantheist. Don`t believe in hell. Simple solution. Show guns on player that are in the hotkey slots.
For the religious folk: Murder is no greater a sin than stealing. It all gets you to the same place.

Why would you punish someone for doing something that is a part of the game? I don't know if you noticed, but it just so happens that there is PvP in the game, if you don't like it, play on PvE only servers. Also, stop being butthurt if someone kills you when you have nothing anyway? Suck it up and move on.
