Hi all,
I'm having trouble running Rust. Whenever I start the game I get a pink screen with a bunch of error messages that seem to indicate that Unity cannot render some textures. I have included a screen cap showing the errors. I can technically run the game in DX9 mode but the graphic are horrible. I can also run the game by running the executable directly from the game folder and most things look normal, but some of the prefab buildings in the rad towns do not have textures, they look like they are made of white or brown plastic. I have looked around for a solution for this but am having no luck. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I have tried verifying the game cache but that did not help.

No thoughts on this eh?
Well, here is what I've come up with so far. I took a few programming classes in college years ago using Java and C++ but this is getting a little deep for me. Could someone tell me if my assumptions here are correct?
Invalid pass number () for Graphics.Blit.Material=Hidden/NaturalBloomAndDirtyLens, npasses=1
It seems to be having a problem adding effects like bloom and dirty lens to a source texture. I'm at work right now so I can't test it, but if there is a way to dissable these effects, maybe that will at least let me play the game. Of coarse this would not be ideal because the game won't look as nice, but it is better than nothing. It also does not explain why I'm getting this error.
RenderTexture.Create failed: format unsupported.
No idea, not having much luck finding detail info on this one. I assume it failed because data is not being passed to this method properly from Graphics.Blit but that is a total assumtpion.
NullReferenceException:Object reference not set to an instance of an object
DeluxEyeAdaptation.OnRenderImage(UnityEngine.RenderTexture source, UnityEngine.RenderTexture destination)
Some object should be loaded into memory as an instance but isn't (probably because of the failures of the previous two methods) so when this method tries to reference it, it gives a null reference exception.
Post your pc specs, could maybe give some answers.

EDIT:
Game is played from and internal SSD, I forget the model.
System should be alright but am not sure if rust is already able to use dual cards. Maybe that's causing issues.

Hmm, I can try disabling SLI before running the game. and see if that helps. I also forgot to mention the game is installed to an SSD. I don't think that would matter, but maybe the way the system pulls data from the drive to active memory is deferent? I have played other Unity games with no issues.

I heard alot people using rust on ssd, shouldn't be a problem.
Ok, well I am at work now, will be many hours until I can get home to test. When I do I'll try disabling one of my cards and see if that helps. Thank you for your help, I will let you know what happens.

Definitely try disabling one card, rust doesn't like running sli at all, and hardware wise that looks like the only possible thing that could cause something like this. One single 780 should be more then enough to play rust at max settings with a good framerate. However a few people have gotten sli to work in rust with a bit of messing around. if you want to get both cards running for a bit better fps this thread might be able help you get rust to run sli: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1487149
If the sli isn't the problem try the basics like verifying game files, reinstalling rust completely, updating sound and video drivers etc.
Your ssd is 100% not the problem, not unless the ssd is dying on you, me and a few friends all play on ssd's and have never had a problem.
Thank you for your reply. Should be off work in a couple of hours, I will try disabling SLI first thing. Thanks for the link, as long as one card will work, I'm fine with that, but it's nice to have options. Verifying the cash was the first thing I did, updating drivers was the second. If disabling SLI does not work, I'll try a fresh install. SSD id working fine as far as I can tell.
No luck guys :-(
Disabling SLI had no effect, I also tried running as administrator, disabling hq bloom, dirty lens ect, and running in windowed mode. (I read somewhere that could help). Nothing worked.
Try a complete reinstall of rust, make sure all of the rust files in the steam folder are deleted before you reinstall it, I noticed back when I had Windows 8.1 that just deleting through the steam library didn't actually delete the files in the steam folder. Other then that, the only possible thing I could think of would be to try reinstalling eac, but I don't see how eac could be causing something like that at all. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
thank you for trying. I will try a fresh install tonight and let you guys know how it goes tomorrow. not much else to be done that I can think of.
No luck with the fresh install. I even disabled my anti-virus software to make sure it did not interfere with the installation. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next update and see if the issue is resolved.
when was the last time you updated all your drivers
I had a similar problem in rust quite a while back and the solution was to turn the graphics All the way up while in game then turn them back down
worth a try
