• Project for fun or business?

Well, this is the fact. In the moment that you decided to release the game on alpha state, you opened it to the world, saying "im here". Nowdays this means that people will try to cheat and fuck server on all the ways they can image. People is how they is. I have seen you are working on game content, like new models for guns, sleepers project and such things, but are avoiding to adress the reality. You cant look to other side and think "this is not happening" or better : "we have to wait until the people that is attacking our servers are bored, is the only thing we can do". If you want this business to sucess, the real thing is that i would buy it now, with the actual gun models, and the few blueprints. But as business, if you dont protect us from cheaters and give us good and safe servers, we cant make a good test, and you will make a bad deal. What im trying to say, is that developing a game for fun its fine, and making new content its funny and free (or low cost). But you have to invest money to increase the size and safety feeling of the players in the servers if you want to make money with this business. Maybe this is an Alpha, but not adresssing the main problems that we are having at this days, and investing money to fix them, just following with the fun content (which is enough for me as it is, because.. its an Alpha!!) will not make this business to succeed. And to fix a little of our in game problems you can add this content as soon as posible: 1,. High decay cost per shot to all guns, and no way to repair them. (we have too much iron, making the cost a a shot nearly nothing) 2.- C4 not stackable 3.-Fix boxes on walls to make the high buildings have sense.
Being that the team is relatively small, would you rather see them pushing more effort to stop cheaters in an alpha game, a game that will have server wipes and changes implemented almost daily, or would you rather have them work towards a completed product? Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if, at the end of all the madness, they went through and used all evidence of cheating and do bans on the spot. I mean, they've stated it isn't a priority, so it is on their to do list. Right now, being that it is a rough alpha game to begin with, the biggest concern is working out issues, while introducing content and fixing issues that arise from creating new content. Once the game is more polished and out of alpha, there will be time to put in fixes. For now, we just have to be patient, letting them work. When we purchased our keys, we knew that the game was in alpha and wouldn't be perfect. Play the game when you can, put in feedback as it comes to you, and remember: this is more a privilege than a right. Just because we dropped money on keys doesn't make us the ultimate driving force, or the priority. It just makes us a part of the process.

And no matter how many times you say that this is an Alpha, their main problem now is to invest money to defend the servers, because this problem will exists now and later. And as many people have said, take the WarZ example. They solved this problem at the end, and now they will not recover from the damage caused. If this persist, the price of accounts on auction will go straight down, and they will lose money. So let them to decide if they want to make business or not.
Cheating will eventually be dealt with but it won't be any time soon and continuously requesting that it be dealt with whether through DDoS attacks or spamming the forums will not change that fact. The issue with all of the alpha testers on here is that for some reason they feel as though they are the impetus behind the decision making process of the devs.
its the developers game, how they choose to handle anything is up to them, you purchased this game this early on because you believe what they've done is promising and think it will get even better. trust in the developers they know what they're doing

Im talking about DDos attacks mainly, and about defending the servers, and if they dont invest money to solve this, the account price will go down. Im talking about business. I dont need more time to say that the game is in a good "Alpha state". If they want to release the game to win money and add more content as soon as posible, the next step is not to add more content, because me, and all the people i meet, would buy the game as it is, more or less, but with a good server protection from DDos attacks. Im here to test the content and bugs, and i can say, that the content is enough for me to be released, and bugs are on my first post. That said, if they want to go from Alpha state to a Release version, they have to stop thinking "all we can do is wait until the people who are DDos the servers are bored" and protect themselves. They have a business and want to make money, dont they?
Yes, lots of these points are correct and as in so many forum posts people seem to forget that on the whole they are generally agreeing rather than get hung up on single issues and create confrontation from those. Rust, I feel is an interesting case Why? Its not only a high concept, compelling game mechanic but because the dutch auction model that Garry has used means (in his own words'), the market sets the value of the product. Now if that's the case, for some people that have purchased the access at reasonable or high cost, there will be an implicit quality issue. Now don't bark 'alpha' at me like a developers pet dog, I'm far from being an idiot. What I am suggesting here is that if you let the market decide on the value (and consequently price), it will have certain expectations. It's interesting that the dev team have changed the dutch auction now and are selling 20 keys over an hour starting at 600 dollars (unless my browser this morning was faulty) and I wonder how this will affect the funding. Of course, the market setting the price won't change the value in the light of these numbers but consider, how much value will the market place on watching an empty sever list compared to playing a (admittedly fantastic) alpha with all the imperfections that brings? I for one am very interested in all of this. I wish the devs every success for a brilliant vision of gameplay so far and (we forget this) something that is very well executed indeed for it's alpha stage. I really hope that Rust weathers the current storm and that the devs learn all that they can from it. I'm sorry if there a typos, I'm writing this on the phone on the way to work. (Errors checked now, if any remain I'm an idiot :) ). I hope to see you all on the business end of my hatchet pretty soon. Regards Pert Puppies!
your suggestions are horrible and i will shoot myself if they ever add this crap.
what someone bought the game at or their expectations is irrelevant, they bought it because they think the game is going to be worth it, not because of what it is now. the dutch auction was also a great idea and has been bringing in more funds than a normal sale would. the Dev's are businessmen, and artists for what they've accomplished so far
Well, you still dont see the point. Let me write once more. Imagine that im one of those that are attacking the servers (DDoS), but the thing is that im not going to be bored or tired of attacking, because im being paid for other company that thinks that to kill a little fish with a hundred bucks is cheaper that to kill a shark. And that company wants the same costumers that Rust have. What would you do then if you were a Dev of Rust? Would you leave you gamer to fail because of not investing money to protect servers from the attacks? The world is too big, do you really bet your game that this is not happening? Your turn.
ok my turn, i trust they're working on it. we're making the transition to steam, everything will become more stable. be patient
You make an interesting point however there are many ways forward that ensure bringing Rust to market. Closed development, access to a dev open support project like 'Greenlight', sponsorhip deals with secure server businessess. etc etc etc I'm afraid at the moment you have no evidence for a corperate conspiracy and consequently industry sabotage, that it is simply conjecture on your part. The biggest danger to Rust currently is a paying alpha testing public that is becoming impatient and (with the best will in the world), I'm not surprised. They've found an embryonic product that they love and want to be a part of. (That includes me too). Regards Pert Puppies!
your suggestions are horrible and i will shoot myself if they ever add this crap.
Let me know before Shooting yourselve!!! I like to be there drinking a beer!! I did 3 suggestions. You can only expect not to see the 2d one. The third one was a fix, and the first is how games like minecraft or SWG had it. Im not asking them to ad it, im sure they will do, i only said the sooner the better. So, please, dont let me lose to see you shooting yourselve!!
you can't harden servers to prevent DDoS attacks - it's a rather hard problem to solve but an easy problem to create; that's why these little pukes do it.
It's been stated several times that the DDosing is happening because of the dev's attitude towards dealing with hackers. I know it's a hard problem to address, but bans could be taking place to at least show that there is something being done. Right now it's so bad, that honestly, barely any testing is even getting done. Since testing is the purpose of an alpha to begin with, dealing with the reason the DDosing is occurring has to become a priority at some point, because people will just give up trying to even play.
