First of let me say that I have not followed every late update(s) of Rust! Well lets get straight to the questions now shall we: 1. I want to host my own server, however can I set a password or make it otherwise a private server? (Limited to Steam friends list only!) 2. Last weekend I spoke to someone saying it is no longer possible to destroy buildings on PvE servers, is this true? And to which extend is this customizable without modding? 3. I have modded for games in the past and certainly would like to take that chance for Rust, however where do I need to start? And to which extend is it possible to mod Rust? (I am aware of the website being developed but I prefer more then just adding items that way. Actual programming is not a problem!) This is a more personal question. 4. I live in the European Union(The Netherlands to be more precise) with friends ranging across nothern Europe(UK, to Poland, to Norway) what game server providers do you advise for a proper connection? ^^ I could hardly find any information related to server customization so if you have a good source of information.
1: The server files are not public yet. I don't know how it works, but you would have to rent a server from one of the approved Game Service Providers. They added a Whitelist feature that pretty much would only let people on your Steam Friends list in, but I don't know how it works. Thats about all I off hand know, sorry.
for modding i would recommend checking out the magma and oxide websites as they are the two biggest modding clients that i am aware of.
Well thank you guys for the answers. I did some following up on them and came up with the following: (Just in case someone wants the information.) 1. Servers can be limited to Steam Groups, so basicly they can be private. 2. Still don't know yet... 3. Rust++ seems to do.
