• Dev Version - looks like noclipping through rocks
    30 replies, posted
Was playing on the DocGotGaming server with three of my friends for a while, two of my friends have the Dev version that increases FPS with the rock tweaks. To access the DEV version, right click rust in steam, go to properties then Betas. Long story short, we were at an airdrop and we rolled these kids. My friend who has the Dev version, on his screen he is running over the rocks just fine, but on my screen (I have normal version) it looks like he is hovering over rocks and even passing through them depending on the rock. These kids told the server owner that my friend was flying in the air (which was a slight exaggeration) and he banned my friend (who does not cheat and never has), then when we tried to reason with him he even refused to teleport to us to take a look at this glitch with our second friend who has the Dev version as well. As much as I do not recommend playing on this server in the future for anyone because of their refusal to look at fact instead of fiction, I did not come here to simply bitch. I came here to point out this out because it could be a future issue for server owners and players. What might look like noclipping, is not actually noclipping. Unfortunately I have not recorded any video of this, I can tomorrow and reply, but if you would like to see this in action have a friend update to dev version and tell them to run over rocks.
dude your friend was up as high as the fuckin airplane that flew by and your telling me he was on a rock? LOL --btw nice job ddosing his server lol
What he said about the dev/not dev rock thing is true, now what happened in that server I can't judge because I wasn't there.
I can confirm this, we had it happen on an Australian server My friend was using dev version and the rest of us were using the standard version. From his perspective sometimes we were inside rocks or hovering over them, depending on the rock. and from our perspective the opposite was happening. i.e. if we saw him flying, from his perspective we were inside a rock, if he was inside a rock, from his perspective we were flying. clearly they have changed the rocks in terms of their size, some being larger and some being smaller. its causing hackusations. I suggest all people use the normal version despite the dev version having much cooler sounds effects. Atleast until the dev and the public versions have the same rock structures again. P.S. iThermal you should check it out yourself, before posting here and making it look like you have unlocked retarded.
Player movement is handled clientside with complete authority? Surely you jest, Garry.
Same happened to couple of my friends, i have devs version, they don't. In theyr screen i was flying sometimes, and going through rocks
Was playing on the DocGotGaming server with three of my friends for a while, two of my friends have the Dev version that increases FPS with the rock tweaks. I don't know this for a fact, but from what I've read the rock placement is different on the Dev version. Doesn't even seem like Dev version and Regular should be able to play together, but if the placement is different then you would be seeing 2 different things.

I dont know you, or them and for all I know you could have simply been showing me a glitch so as to save yourselves from being banned on the server. I do, however know the members of my stream community who reported the situation, and trust them. I made a judgment call, and stand by it. It doesnt make me a bad Administrator, but hey to each their own. 2- If you or your friend knew that the dev version could cause these issues why would you use it and risk getting these accusations thrown your way? 3- Why would I bother to even CONSIDER taking your (or your two loudmouthed and obnoxious friends) word for it when your buddies are tossing out insults? 4- I asked you to show me where, on the forums or any RUST blog, site etc this is an issue. Surely if this is as common as you say it is then yours wouldnt be the first post about it? I am not saying that this is not possible, however when you add this to my above 3 points you can see why these people were banned. Have a good day!
Confirmed. And after reading Docgotgame's post, and looking at his "logics" i will stay away from that server aswell! Peace!
I can add a data point of the rock placement being different in the dev version. Rocks seemed to 'grow' after a recent update, and it resulted in me not being able to access part of my base due to rocks being in the way that weren't before. After I switched back to the non-dev version, the rocks 'shrunk' back to where they were supposed to be. I too find it odd that something like this could happen due to a client only change.

This happened to me too.
with mac it happens
Not to get off topic, but I remember another group being banned because one of your viewers got rolled by them and told you they were cheating. Im not surprised that you would then ban my friend after we rolled a small group of your viewers. This only shows how terrible of a community you are building on your stream and how terrible you are at managing a server. A community that cries cheats against a legit player and then has the owner ban him because they got owned is not a community nearly anyone on rust wants to play on. First accused of flying through rocks, we try to show you the glitch. We did not know that the dev version was that glitched and you refuse. Why? You refused because you knew you were going to be proven wrong and you knew your viewers were lieing. Even if we knew about the client side bug, you cannot blame them for playing a game they bought. And before you claim it is an exploit, think again. The rock changes screwed them as well as they saw the enemies flying through rocks as well. It went BOTH ways. I find it funny that we try to point out an issue and you refute the issue on the basis that no one else has posted yet. I also find it funny that once your friends were about to be given proof as to why it looked like noclipping, they changed their story to him floating as high as a plane. Give me a break...instead of speccing and recording you simply ban on a false accusation similar to the group I mentioned before. I tried to reason with you but it was impossible. Good luck in the future trying to build your already tarnished community. You will most likely need it ;)
In response to this I would simply like to point out a few things: 1- As the owner of the server why would I teleport to you or your friends to see what (possibly) you would want me to see? All I have done in this thread is explain my reasoning behind the bans. Some dont agree, and hey thats life I will survive. Now, did I accuse you and your group of DDOSING the server when it went down shortly after this situation erupted? No, because I dont see the need to try to tarnish folks names. At the end of the day people will come to the server and see for themselves what we are about (or they wont), and thats good enough for me, and our community. Remember, You didnt, and wont see a post advertising our server on here and there is a reason for it. We arent TRYING to fill it up with people nor do we care whether or not you join it. If you do, great, and welcome to the family, if you dont, hey thats cool good luck on your adventures elsewhere no hard feelings. This will be my last post on the matter so have at it. I have more important things to do then to prove my worth to you or anyone else.
We honestly tried to be apart of the community by actively playing and following rules. It was you who unfairly banned us after hearing cries from some kids. You might not advertise but do not even for a minute claim you want a small community. You stream all the time and do so to grow your follower base in hopes for donations and status on twitch. And dossing? Is this like a last resort tactic? You get exposed as a bad admin and then claim we are dossing to make us look bad? The people on this forum are not stupid and will not fall for such trickery. I cannot believe you would make something as serious as this up to take the spotlight off of all 300lbs of you.
Confirmed. And after reading Docgotgame's post, and looking at his "logics" i will stay away from that server aswell! Peace!
Yeah it is terrible server owners like him that ruin this game, when people are hacking they are to lazy to go see it but have no problem banning for a false hackusation. And his logic is incredibly flawed, "If you or your friend knew that the dev version could cause these issues why would you use it and risk getting these accusations thrown your way?" Well for some people the game is poorly optimized and they can't run it without aid from the more optimized developer build.
Forum mods can you clean up this thread please. It's gone from reporting a bug to people been plain rude and insulting each other. Thanks
Ryanjuk, an admin on the DocGotGame server. Classic.

Have a good day!
Hey Docgotgame, I feel like I should bring a third person perspective into this situation. 1. In terms of banning these guys, you made a decision without any due diligence or investigation. This does not seem fair to me. As an admin, your actions should be impartial to everybody, which means you should not hear arguments from one side and make a biased judgement call just like that. Your buds from stream community should not get special treatment. Whether these guys were being obnoxious or a**holes, is a separate matter. What you need to ascertain is whether hacks or cheating was in fact involved. 2. It doesn't sound like these guys knew these type of issues would exist prior to using the Dev version. Even if they knew, it's not wrong to utilize the Dev version as it is here for us all to test, especially in the current alpha environment. 3. If these guys were tossing out insults then shame on them. No matter what the situation, insults do not solve problems. Nevertheless, as an impartial party and admin, it is your duty to resolve the situation in an orderly fashion and not favor one side or another. 4. Just because an issue is not reported in any prevalent way doesn't mean it doesn't exist. That is exactly why you, as the admin, need to conduct the necessary investigation before making a judgement call. As far as I can see, your arguments point to two erroneous behaviors as an admin. (1) you were completely partial in trying to resolve a situation and failed to contribute to the community as a whole in trying to discover a potential bug; (2) you did not conduct the necessary due diligence as it is in your power and duty to do so. I hope you can understand this and move on.
Yes I'm an admin on there. And as has been stated numerous times, the server is for our twitch community. Therefore we don't have to justify ourselves to anyone but our viewers, who are all currently very happy with the server. That aside, we will be putting rules in place that anyone using the dev version will be banned. It's too much of a time sink none of us want to deal with distinguishing the difference between dev version and hacks.
So you are banning people for testing the game, genius
So you are banning people for testing the future of this game? Well at least you are distinguishing a difference now between dev version and hacking. I guess that is progress. You also have to take into consideration that people will join your server unknown to this terrible rule. The hole you guys are digging yourself into just doubled.
1- When you banned the alleged player that was floating on the air, we asked you to teleport to us so you could see that this was a mere mistake from you as an admin. (taking words from Sh1*t-On Kids with no skill that get 2-shot in the head ez pz) 2- We tried talking to you several times for over 10 minutes to show you, personally i asked that to please teleport to me i would show you that the rock on my side where different than yours, and i would had showed you how to get on dev so you could revert you terrible mistake, Instead you went ahead and kept beating around the bush stating that there was no need to teleport to us on the matter that it was settle. 3- You ban players because they called you out on being a "terrible admin on your server, that was not an insult merely "STATING A FACT" when a 31 year old fat f8k no life sh1tt1e kiddie like you have the money to sit around and buy a server and the instance that good players show on his server he bans them out because he has terrible "minecraft Players" playing a full out PVP game that QQ pew pew cuz they get 2 shot instantly in the head by "Counter-Strike Players" you got butthurt about it and took a "Judgement Call". 4-And it wasn't until you where a complete @ssh0le about you weren't unbanning the must unskilled player that we had, that he is honestly probably smarter than you and your entire Genetic generations to come. that we started insulting you. good luck on ur sh1*t on Server "31-yr old mom basement Kiddie"
In response to this I would simply like to point out a few things: 1- As the owner of the server why would I teleport to you or your friends to see what (possibly) you would want me to see? The only thing I got out of this is to be careful to pick a server where there is not admin abuse and ignorance. Thank you for this eye opening experience.
