Hey guys. So I have a small base that is pretty much a single foundation. I've crammed it into a rock (not the glitch, but like a cave) tho so it's pretty well hidden. However I had to place my small crates, campfire, and furnace on the ground in the back of this cave. How long will that stuff last before it starts to decay? If I access it all the time, will it still decay? Do I need to repair it to stop decay? Basically, what are the decay rates for things that aren't placed on a foundation?

I can tell you that a small box seems to start decaying after 24 hours or so of not being used. A large box starts decaying instantly on the ground. A large box has 1000hp where the small box has 500. From my estimate, a large box will last about a day and half if not repaired. I don't think opening a large box makes a difference.
I think because of the hit point difference they will probably decay at the same time but I have not tested it yet. The large box seems to loose around 25/hour.

I'm pretty sure I know the "cave" you're talking about, unless there's more than one. I used mine as a safe house until I had the materials to build a solid starter base. Yep, it only will support one small storage box in the back of the cave. As long as you log in daily, and repair your current level of decay back up to 500...you can keep the storage indefinitely. I still maintain my storage in the cave since moving out and use it as an outpost on farming and rad runs, but don't leave anything in there I wouldn't mind losing at some point.
I think there's actually a couple different little caves, I've found two but one is super duper small and the other has a steep hill inside that makes it a little difficult to manage.
If it was just a sliver less steep then you could put a foundation in at the same level as the "doorway".
There's a ton of little caves like that . If it takes you longer to get mats for a 1x1 than it takes for your box to decay, you are doing something wrong.
Unless of course you are rping some cave dwelling hermit. In that case, carry on.
If i have to suffer through several wipes inarow I will just place a sleeping bag and a furny/wb in one of those caves and just yolo swaggins it up with pipe shotties till the next wipe. I've actually had tons of fun purposely going "base less".

It's a good sized cave. I can fit 2 small crates, a camp fire, and a furnace in the back. I have a 5X5X25 in hacker but I just wanted to have something people won't find near tons of animals so I can do mass farming lol
I have heard also of different caves. spot that is really confusing is the giant hole that is apparently on the map havnt seen it yet but have had friend see it.
