Steam installed a 1.5mb update this afternoon. After launching the game it froze at the load screen, before even main menu. Game gave me a memory error and after clicking okay the whole computer restarted all on its own (was not a BSOD, just a dialog box). After reboot of OS steam asked for password, which should be saved and looked in my game library and Rust is now uninstalled.

More users may end up reporting similar issues. Check any crash log files that might have been made in the rust folder, check if the folder is even there.
Can you provide the specs of your computer? OS? Apps running?
