I don't like how you can see the person further away.
I have a PVE server with no raiding and the way I catch rule breakers is by watching people invisibly.
I thought the original one was annoying and wished I could remove it but this one was even worse. Everyone knows I'm watching them now so why would they raid while I'm on?
Agreed. This is a major oversight by the devs. What is the point of invisible armor if everyone can hear our footsteps and now see our nametags above our heads from 300 miles away?
Eerr'.. delete C4 from the loot table? (DropParty)
This is what you'll get for a long period of time (most likely)
So you better find a way around it because i'm pretty sure alot of people are happy with this.
I know it's annoying for you, but unfortunally there isn't much that they'll do.
Good luck sneaking up people :D

It's not just annoying for us. It's annoying for the legit players on the server that have to put up with cheaters that stop cheating the moment we teleport to them. Then once they don't see our name behind them, they go right back to it.

They already saw your name in yellow if you'd be behind them anyways?
Even in invisible clothes your nametag will float above (and your footsteps can be heard)
So yeah..

So yeah... you could use certain characters that didn't show up. This new patch added a lot of characters that were previously not displayed. That's what he is talking about.
There is no "getting over it" If you even had to admin a server you wouldn't be saying that. The lack of tools available to admins is astounding. It is literally the hardest thing to do, catching hackers that is. It absorbs your time. There needs to be some way to go invisible, silent, fly, get the super speed. These few things would absolutely be game changing in pursuing hackers. I understand that many of the kiddies will abuse this but by the same turn of hand, it cripples the true good admins severely. Also, you cant use special characters that dont show up. If you do then you cant target yourself to give you any invis items. trust me ive tried.
Download Rust Essentials and use the /vanish command to completely dissapear and not even show up on the players list

Do footsteps still make sounds?
Agree, its now easier to see players at night
would be nice if you could set a view distance via the cfg file
It's funny because before this people complained about not being able to see names from further away.
I have to say the new tags are nice in that they're less obvious, while closing the gap to ID'ing at a greater distance without breaking the tension of an encounter too much.
As mentioned though the lack of proper invisibility for an admin trying to observe potential hackers still confounds me, as one of those admins.
So a plea to the devs (I know, one among many!): As suggested make the admin armour silent & have it hide the name tag. In doing those two things you will fully equip us to properly observer and remove hackers from our servers. We have the base tools available now, two small refinements is all that is needed to make them perfect tools for us admins to empower your game and keep your customers/gamers/friends happy.
And to those that would argue that the more power an admin has then the more abuse will take place, welcome to human nature.
You'll never be able to provide tools for the good admins to use without providing that same power to the bad admins. But that's where you need to realise that the power to punish bad admin abuse lies with you. By moving servers and letting others know, you leave the server tainted and an empty server = a powerless admin.
It's weird how your complain about your hacky solution not working correctly isn't demanding better tools for server owners such as a proper implementation of invisible or spectator mode, but instead wanting a feature that is very useful to regular players to be modified so you can take advantage of it

I would much rather have spectator mode or something else. I could care less if I have armor or not as long as it allows me to watch people and catch them in the act.
