• Pitching up gamma with a program?
    36 replies, posted
Hello Rust/ Facepunch Community! Normally, i don´t start a thread the day i register in any forum, but i want to make sure not to get baned or whatever. But first things first. I always wanted to register here, but never had the time to. So: to all the Developers that made Rust what its is at the moment: there may be some difficulties and the game is pretty unfinished. But only the idea of the game (you can see how many bought it so far) makes people buy even a unfinished game. Great work, keep it up. Big hope! Now to my Question: After i looked for solutions, i found many different opinions. Some say you´ll get baned, some say not. It´s a program that helps you turning up gamma a bit. I tried this program once in Rust. Some features are for example: *Downsample/SuperSample AA *Hotkeys for Sound, Gamma *Screenshots I kinda feel like being mean if i would attack someone in the dark that hasnt got the option to turn up gamma or brightness. But the reason i am making this thread is, i wanted to know if this is concidered as cheating or will result in a ban? I dont want to risk that. So thank you for your answers, feel also free to say what you think about it! BambiSaver P.S.: You may have noticed i am not that good in english ^^
The real question is .. why ? Am i the only one that enjoy the thrill of the night ? Being bananeble or not, being considered cheating or not its still "uncool" :P. Be one of the cool guys and make love with your toch at pitch night.

I hate when someone can see you a mile away because their gamma is bumped up. I still refuse to bump my gamma up and love the darkness in the game. It is not considered cheating and you should not get banned if you do it the proper way. I just frown upon people doing it.
You're a scrub if you put your gamma up.
im pretty sure all good players do it :) i think you are a scrub if you believe not doing it and losing every fight at night makes you ethically or in any way superior to those that do it. @OP its called Gammasutra
The real question is .. why ? Am i the only one that enjoy the thrill of the night ? Being bananeble or not, being considered cheating or not its still "uncool" :P. Be one of the cool guys and make love with your toch at pitch night. Why ? Because this game is PvP and not singleplayer, it is competitive so any advantages is a good point
I enjoy the aspects of night, but I dont enjoy being at a disadvantage to other players. So either they force fix brightness at night or night will never be night ;)
What they need to do is if someone bumps gamma they have a grainy screen where it is just as hard to see. And yes, I think I am better than those that need to use it at night where as I don't/won't.
I have two options...turn my gamma up at night....or sit in my house and wait for dawn. I'm not about to lose 15 minutes of every hour sitting in a room...so guess what I do. I agree that the game is WAY better with the gamma at a normal level. But I can't control what other people do, so I'm screwed.
In all my many, many years of computering not ONE...SINGLE...TIME...have I ever been like, "Oh man...I need to adjust the gamma/brightness on my monitor...I better download a program for that." Ever. In-game settings, display settings, GPU settings, actual buttons on the monitor...
congratulations, but gammasutra is a tool that lets you change the gamma with a hotkey on your keyboard whereas in-game settings (unless we are speaking source or quake type games where you can often bind it), monitor drivers and monitor UI force you to go idle to set it up.

You just have to press a hotkey. Buttons on the monitors? Try to take the time to do that in rust. Theres always something behind a corner. This is why i asked if its leggit to use it. I still dont know if its ok. Dont want to end up getting baned only for pitching up my gamma. So for now, if theres no statement from gary or the team, i will stay with my torch. If someone already knows if its leggit, please tell me.
I only had to setup my gamma and screen brightness for Rust. Unless you're cheesing it like a lame-ass (which is your prerogative) then you should only have to set it up once too . I've already heard numerous players claim they were banned from Rust and all they were using was Gammasutra or some other gamma adjusting *cough* software. So if you were to take those claims at face value then yes, it's bannable. But if you're truly a double-G "leggit" player as you say then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Edit: Just to clarify in case the sarcasm didn't come through on your end, "I was just using a program to change my Gamma." is pretty much the #1 excuse that Rust hackers use. Whatever, third party software you use in conjunction with Rust is at your own risk so you should make sure that any software you use is approved for said game and that you obtained that software unmodified from it's actual official source.
I dont like pure darkness. I'd like to still be able to see something at night because of moonlight. And this game doesnt have that. So I turn up my gamma.

ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION: Yes, you will most likely get banned from using the program.
from gammasutra? nope. been using it myself but it overwrites my nvidia monitor settings and i dont like that
ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION: Yes, you will most likely get banned from using the program.
Thanks. Thank you all for your answers! If its really that "illegal" i wont install this program. Yes, its only for turning up gamma. No its NO lighthack. I never hacked in ANY single game before. I wont hack in any single game in the future. If its forbidden, i wont use it. simple. Thanks all!
BambiSaver, use standart audio- and videodiver options and hotkeys. Just open driver setup. This is very fast and simple, and consist all features, that you need. And, obviously, that metod is 100% pure and VAC secure.
jesus why i even bother making replies when all you do is listen to one random r3tard OP? gtfo please
Its not illegal you idiot. If my video card settings allow me to turn up gamma, and I can get banned for it. Then the devs are fucking retarded. But you wont be banned for turning up gamma, because your video card control panel isnt an illegal software. So its no illegal.
jesus why i even bother making replies when all you do is listen to one random r3tard OP? gtfo please
Why bother posting on someone's thread when you can't handle people taking advice other than your own?
why bother making a seemingly witty reply when you didnt even follow the conversation? I said I used the tool np and the next thing op says is "OK IF ITS ELLEEGUL I WONT USE IT THX ALL". its just not illegal to turn up your gamma one way or another, dafuq? only tools that bring other options that are gamebreaking and modify the game/inject etc are illegal.
So my final post. jayfkay...im gonna tell you something. First of all: thanks for all the insults. You cant imagine how bad i feel about them. Seriously. learn how to act in a forum. I am thankful because of your answers. Gammasutra is leggit. Turning up your gamma is leggit. But even if theres a minority of people saying that it will result in a ban, i stay off programs like "Gammasutra" until theres a final statement of the dev. team. The program i saw wasnt gammasutra. just to let you know. Also: only because there are different opinions on a thread, you dont have to flag them as dumb. I am only scared to be banned of a great game only for pitching the gamma up with a program. Wouldnt be worth it. Last thing: i read all the comments. all of them. The whole conversation. Its called: "having an opinion on a statement" what you call "You dont like my reply, you have no idea of anything." Dont want to start a fight with anyone. Thanks for now.
Changing your gamma will not result in a ban. Gammasutra will not ban you. It doesn't hook into the game or inject anything, it solely affects your graphics card output, the game has no idea that anything has been changed. That said, I still think it's a stupid and cheap way to get an advantage.
are you saying an estimated 70% of the rust community is cheap and stupid? cuz every streamer I ever saw uses it. wherever I go, 90% of the people I meet can spot me at night np, except some of the "casuals" with their 10h playtime. and I didnt know that something people have been doing for well over 10 years (remember? to spot enemies in catacombs on dust2 in the dark corners you need... EXACTLY, higher gamma. elminiating dark spots with higher gamma is also being done in all the cod titles cod4 onward. in quake people use clean white map textures and bright green player models to only focus on aiming.) would be stupid and cheap. cheap? well maybe. stupid? explain please.
that 70% of the rust community uses.
"Hey man, 70% of our high school class is using crack! Guess that makes it okay!"
first of all i dont use that argument :) second of all, read my post. also.. comparing using crack with getting a brightness advantage in a video game? really???? I dont think you necessarily gain an advantage over other people in high school if you use crack.
jayfkay, it's my opinion. If you don't like it then that's fine. But I'm not going to explain my opinion to you when it's entirely obvious what my thoughts are on the matter. It's fine if you disagree, it won't earn you a ban so do whatever you want. I will go on thinking that it's a cheap trick to gain an unfair advantage. I will continue to play the game the way it was meant to be played.
Alright fine, whatever, just dont call it stupid. its what, by now, almost everyone is doing. people care more for the competetive aspect than the immersiveness that night brings.
