• Item Editor.. WIP test

So as many of you know I'm working on an Item Editor. The reason for this is so we can more easily and quickly add items.. which will lead to more items in the game I've got a test up here: http://radmin.elasticbeanstalk.com/itemeditor/ The end goal for this is for you guys to be able to add and submit your items, and for us to accept them. This is really early days at the moment, and represents about 3 days work. We're going to explore the feasibility of adding other 'tool' type objects, and being able to submit proper art etc.. but right now the only items you can really add are things like food, or things that would be components of other things. This will be progressing over time, so feel free to have a mess. Don't expect too much yet though. You can't see other people's creations at the moment but I will try to add a way for people to showcase what they've done.. and maybe some kind of leaderboard/vote system.
OMG nice some progress and info that new items stuff will come Hopefully the community will speed up the implementation of new stuff with their ideas with that editor when the editor is working as intented
Something that probably isn't too obvious, you need to actually press SAVE for your changes to save
We're going to explore the feasibility of adding other 'tool' type objects, and being able to submit proper art etc.
I love the approach you are taking here. This will give people the opportunity of taking part in development they have been searching for. Will this include ingame models (like with steam workshop for dota for example) as well? Or is it more focussed on items that are only visible through the interface (like food is now etc.) ?
garry, we have this http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1367062 now we have http://radmin.elasticbeanstalk.com/itemeditor/ Development of the game falls on the community?! Yes, it's cool. But I do not want to Jurassic Park or something. How do you see the further development of the game?

Sounds to me like he just wants some of the more important things in the game to fall upon you guys instead of the community, I personally love developers that listen/let us help but some things are not fit to be decided by the community. This item editor idea is great, I just had a hard time watching dinosaurs rise to the top of your last poll =p
But I do not want to Jurassic Park or something.
the Majority disagrees with you on the forums :P........... anyway would be nice to Hear Garrys opinion about that pool.....
Well for now we should keep the posts about the item editor, I am sure he will say something soon about that considering its obvious what the winner is.
I got a blank page after logging in with Steam OpenID system. I am running Firefox 27.0.1 on Win7 Btw.

This item editor idea is great, I just had a hard time watching dinosaurs rise to the top of your last poll =p
Yeah this goes without saying. We're not letting the community dictate what we do. We're feeling them out about stuff. The actual reason for that poll wasn't for them to decide whether military or dinosaurs should get added. It was to feel people out about something else on the list. The item editor just makes good sense to us. We don't need to spend time adding 40 different types of meats, then adding icons for each of those. We don't need to spend time adding 200 different types of food. The community can do that, they can enjoy doing it. And if they don't like it, and community contributions are shit - it doesn't matter - we don't have to add them. The system pays for itself anyway - because a few days of work enables anyone at FP to add a new item to the game in less than a minute, instead of taking a programmer that knows how to (of which there are 2) over an hour. We're looking at systems like this this to speed up our development, so we can add things faster in the future. So even though it looks like we're wasting time on things like this when we could be doing 'real stuff', everything will work out much much better in the end.

I've tried logging in, but after the Steam login page my browser is stuck at a blank page. In the chrome network tab I can see that I'm getting a 500 from the index.php ...
I added Crossbow
Nice. Will have to give it a go, I've made 3D models and textures as mods for other games in the past. I take it this means in the future individual servers could be running community modpacks of items/weapons etc?
WHen would more events and such be added to the editor? A few days or so?
Doesn't upload the 512x512 image fully for me stuck at that
Well, I gave it a shot :v: let's see if it gets anywhere. Thanks for this Garry, I think it is an excellent idea to get the community involved even partially in the development cycle.
Good to see spoiled food as an option, that will make the game much more challenging. It's way too easy as it is.

I had to confirm my browser/device for Steam beforehand, if that is a possible source of error.

Hello Garry. 1 question, I seen that information about Item editor website. "This feature whenever it is implemented will for sure change the face of the community servers, allowing server owners/admins more control and a way to separate themselves from the pack." the server owners can upload items separately on their servers? whether it is true? P.S. Great work)
 flares are red, kevlars are blue. If i had to pick up a dev, i would definetly pick you. Thanks for the editor.
 flares are red, kevlars are blue. If i had to pick up a dev, i would definetly pick you. Thanks for the editor.
Actually it depends on what condition the Kevlar is. :)
Great Idea Gary. It is good to see a dev reaching out to its community. Let me ask, are you looking for just icons, or actual models to use? I know you will need menu icon, and Tooltip Icon. But what is the large pic slot for?
Welp, seeing as this actually is gonna be a thing, I'd like to apologize to the people who suggested such a thing for sounding like an ass when I was against it. I thought it was gonna be way too much work to actually happen.

Is the team able to see what we are working on or do we have to submit the raw data somewhere?

Probably a dumb question, but is this open to everyone or just server owners/admins for the time being? I was able to access it and just would like to know if that was a bad move on my part.
