The building mechanics are one of the best parts about this game, but some times they can be a pain! Every time I have a good idea for a house I usually cannot do it. This happens mostly in the mountains but some times I have restrictions on flat ground and it is a true pain. Please ease up on the restrictions.
restrictions ? ground structure you mean ? lol what do you expect to build in the mountains if you want a nice big structure build on grass on flat land. Sorry if i read the op wrong but if i didnt this thread is stupid :S.

I found the flattest plot of land and there are still dozens of spots where i cannot place a foundation at all. Agreed.
Build on the slope of a hill and work down it. The foundation on the highest point is the anchoring point. I've only had issues when accidentally trying to work alittle up and around the slope instead of down. A friend of mine just made a 7x7 house testing a design. So what say you to that? Unless your attempting something like a 15xX or 20+xX
Just like in real life, you can't build just anywhere. The building system is a very good balance between reality and practicality. Once they give us the ability to delete / destroy posts and foundations, it will be perfect.

The three areas that I know have good plots for large buildings are: - Hacker valley - Next valley - Behind the Factory (there's some heavy rads in a couple spots, but a great big flat spot) [editline]10th January 2014[/editline] The largest foundation I've built was about 25x15 or so, and it was behind the Factory.
Where at in hacker valley? I would like to build a 15x15 or something of the sort there.
Where at in hacker valley? I would like to build a 15x15 or something of the sort there.
Yeah but a base that big is usually very easily ruined by anyone with 20+ wood to make a pillar or two while you're building the thing.

Thanks to modern engineering, we can build just about anywhere in real life. The building system is fun and all, but it has so much room for expansion it would be a shame not to see them increase it's flexibility. Building multi-level foundations so we can make our bases go down the side of a hill, placing walls diagonally on foundations, or having triangle shaped foundations....the list of features is just enormous on what they could add.
