• Alarms with facebook/sms alerts

Hey! I was thinking of endgame in Rust. Wouldn't it be nice to have some sort of alarm system that would alert you when someone is trying to break into your house? If you could tweak when the alarm would go off (e.g. laser beams inside your house or inside a first line of defense), it would be pretty neat. It could alert you through facebook or sms or whatever.
no im sure people would find ways to abuse it also facebook integration with games is never a good thing
App that is made for iphone/android that would show you server/player stats and if you build a laser alarm could send you a notification, something like this,, first you are looting around and you find a blueprint, then you scavenge through rad towns and find an old phone, toy laser pointer, battery, small makeup mirror, fotosensitive diode, relay, scrap wires and some scrap electronics and voila, super expensive to build, possible in real life even, super usefull BUT you would have to change batteries every day AND if someone or something triggers alarm you would have to set it up again, there is some post about scrap cars in game, a great source for relay, scrap wires, car battery for a few days of active alarm, fotosensitive diode from a modern car(like the ones that turn your lights on automaticaly when it gets dark ;) ) can even contain phones, scrap metal, basic tools like screwdriver, pliers, first aid kit, reflective vest, screews, duct tape... and so on, i have so many ideas that devs wouldnt finnish this game in a 100 years, but it would be so cool to be able to build awesome stuff like that... This game would became so complicated that the bible sized instruction manual wouldnt help you :D
sms/app notification is on the mindmap, but personally i really don't want facebook involved. ever.
i think that facebook would be bad, reaaalyyy bad, but custom app, like rust monitor would be awesome
I just said facebook because that's the first non-sms thing that popped into my head. An app would be cooler. E-mail would work.
i think that facebook would be bad, reaaalyyy bad, but custom app, like rust monitor would be awesome
With notifications like, Your stone wall has been breached. Your code lock has been hacked, Your cupboard authorization has been revoked. Oh god I would hate this app! Oh geez, can you imagine if you built a device in your house for this purpose and raiders could access it and send you a message on the app. That would be awesome!
I don't think this idea would be a detriment to the game, but I don't see it adding too much, either. Might just be my life-style, but even if my base is getting obliterated, I can't just cut out on my job to hop on Rust. Other people would likely get different mileage, of course.

Just expanding on your idea.
Can you guys imagine runing in rust and looting random towns and finding a security camera blueprint that would require, 1security camera(cannot be crafted only found), cellphone (only found) scrap wires, scrap metalan electronic parts, so you could make a security camera that sends images to your rust app on your phone irl? That would be sweet... Time to go to sleep now :)

brb building a laser out of firewood and rocks. Seriously though, some of that could work. But any remote system has to be high maintenance. Since each IRL day equals several Rust days, battery rundown would have to be 8-12 hours IRL time. Maybe 24-48 hours with a car battery. Each trip of the alarm would significantly drain the batteries. This opens a huge in-game potential of garbage dumps, restocked by airdrops, or maybe just found bits and pieces. To make it more realistic, use a basic light + simple lens + CDS cell, or IR transmitter (salvaged from a remote control) and IR receiver (salvaged from a DVD player / DVR / etc). Lasers are pretty high-current compared to an IR transmitter or regular bulb. Also, the system would only be capable of defending one line; you'd have to build a perimeter out of clean mirrors. Jump over that perimeter, and the system is entirely bypassed.
You didn read anything in this thread didnt you, well to make it simple and short for you, you find toy laser pointer, find it in old rusted car or rad town, you cant make it irl, you shouldnt be able to make it in game. Edit: in legacy you could make pointer atachment for a gun with metal fragments i think and that was unrealistic
guys, i'm not sure it needs to be that realistic. we make a medical syringe out of some metal and low grade fuel. that wouldn't heal you, it would make you very sick, or kill you. have it lootable only because honestly we couldn't make a video camera with primitive tools and resources. and that's all it needs to be, a camera or a motion sensor; the rest is inferred.
You are right, i allways overcomplicate things

I don't want lasers unless they're strapped to sharks heads. Stupid idea unless sharks are involved.
OK this is seriously a bad idea. If your house is getting raided while your off the game do you think you really want to know? Let me give an example; You're out at the movies or dinner with friends, spouse, whoever. Than BAM you get a text that your house is being raided. Now you're feeling stressed out because your miles away from your computer. All your hard work is getting taken away from you. There is nothing you can do about it and now your night is ruined. Or maybe you're at work and now all you can think about is how many hours its gonna take you to rebuild your Rust life... Maybe if you have no life, sit at home all day, and live between the fridge and your computer chair this would be useful. No thanks i think ill pass on this feature.

Wasn't at one time something in Legacy like this?
Yea, but if you could get a screencap of their name then you could get revenge!
This is a great point. Like anti theft apps for OS X :) Your security system takes a photo and sends it to your phone. Brilliant!
Forget an app that tells you you're being raided. Why not be able to construct some sort of automated defense system to secure larger bases? It would be great to log into rust, see a hole in my house, and in front of that hole is fifty dead bodies full of loot that died from the hundred or so turrets left inside the house to give me piece of mind when I'm not on the server. On top of that piece of mind, these bodies carry loot which I will call presents. Who doesn't like presents.
