I've been wanting to build a Valhalla for some time yet previous building methods i used were just not giving me what i wanted. I recently discovered, by accident, when trying to get to the top of a mountain a new way to build on mountain peaks. The pathway up to Valhalla When using Square Foundations, their size, while good for flat grounds are not good for hills therefore making it almost impossible to build something decent on a sloped hill, so when i was trying to make my way up a mountain i decided to use Triangle foundations this then revealed a couple of things. Firstly it was possible to build a nice trail along the sloped hill sometimes i could build around the entire Mountain Peak, which is impossible for square foundations, Secondly you could build INSIDE the mountain. This allowed me to expand the size of my buildings on mountain peaks. Thirdly i also figured out how to build square blocks and stairs onto triangle floors and foundations. As you can see below the triangle foundations allow for more flexible building methods as well as building inside mountains and peaks but only to the depth and reach the game allows. Start Building up Place floors Pause for Eclipse Keep building until you have something decent Light it up That was the first Valhalla, i decided to expand to the next mountain peak, and this time make it far larger than the first Valhalla. The pictures will not do it justice at all, to really get an idea of its size you had to be there to run around in it. The first floor became the Catacombs and it was possible to get lost in there. Then i built up furth and the floor size began to expand. Things just got bigger and bigger until i began to enlist the Help of some minions, Thor Axe and Tcamp. Here u have an idea of how deep you could build under the snow peaks from the distance of the pillars to the snow edge. Thor Axe slacking on the job The Front Entrance Area, unfinished The first lot of Norse Homes for the Warriors Looking down from the Front Entrance In this picture you'll see that i have built stairs on triangle foundations From the Front entrance to the First lot of Norse Homes. The second lot of Norse homes in the background Looking back to the first Valhalla Building the walls up and placing the floors Third lot of Norse Homes ready for occupation Front Entrance View Looking in. Mjollnir the Hammer of Almighty Thor The walls almost finished Outside looking up I think at this point we we're 5 floors up At this point Valhalla was almost finished, i was cleaning up some left over pillars, and in some areas where there were too many pillars, when the Server decided to crash from a building error. I have theory about this error, which im yet to try out but i have experienced it before from doing a particular thing while building. In fact it is quite possible to force a server wipe due to the error from this simple trick. But overall it was a great build, over 4-5 million wood was used as well as 3-4 million stone, it was 5 levels high and could have been higher yet covered a huge amount of area. I think it took almost 5 minutes just to walk around the boundary of the building. I think i also used 200+ lanterns. Being able to place square blocks and stairs on triangle floors and foundations was extremely handy, originally i had been using furnaces to climb up to higher areas. Though there were no pictures shown of them Valhalla did have a few towers placed around the walls. This entire build has taught me a whole new style of building on mountain tops as well as problems one may run into when doing so as well as being able to place stairs on triangle floors and foundations. I will one day create Valhalla again but much larger and better. Thanks to my minions Thor Axe and Tcamp for the help. For more pictures Zen and the Art of Rust : Grym's Valhalla, part I https://imgur.com/a/oXYfH Zen and the Art of Rust : Grym's Valhalla, part II https://imgur.com/a/r1LcP Zen and the Art of Rust : Grym's Valhalla, part III https://imgur.com/a/p19Dv
Since you've taught me the trick of putting stairs on all triangle floors, I've used it constantly. Lets keep that secret tho so it can't get fixed, since it is sort of a glitch.
